MMA World Cup: Can Dominick Cruz Cruise to a Gold Medal?
Dominick Cruz tooled Waggney Fabiano, like he has every opponent not named Faber, on his way to a likely gold medal. His opponent will be Brad Pickett who pulled off a minor upset against Takeya Mizugaki.
Gold Medal Match:
1. Dominick Cruz vs. 3. Brad Pickett
My Take: Who would have thought, watching him in Cage Rage all those years ago, that "One Punch" Pickett would come this far? But the road dead ends at Cruz. What good is one punch when there is no one there to land it on? Cruz glides...
Bronze Medal Match
2. Takeya Mizugaki vs. 4. Wagnney Fabiano
My Take: You know what? I just don't think Mizugaki is very good. Fabiano here for Acai lovers everywhere!
- USA: Dominick Cruz
Asia/AUS: Takeya Mizugaki- Europe: Brad Pickett
Brazil: Wagnney FabianoCanada: Ivan MenjivarCIS and Assorted: Artemij Sitenkov

...and with that, every UFC champ wins a gold medal in their division
Who’d have guessed?

The options with the largest marketing budgets behind them consistently win polls?
This is shocking news. Somebody call the governor!

Do you doubt any of the champions would not win this in real life?
Do you really think Pickett or Aoki would beat the champ in a real fight?

Right
I seriously doubt you picked against any of them.

It was noteworthy, and not just the champs.
Hominick over Hioki is crazy talk, but Hominick has much more marketing behind him. And I did pick Mendes over Aldo, but it’s certainly a UD pick. I also pick Overeem over Cain, because Alistair is bigger, stronger, and more talented in every way than Kongo and I’m not sure Cain has fixed the holes that got him in trouble every round of that fight. Or fixed them well enough for somebody who is so much more talented than the frenchman.

How could anyone pick Hominick over Hioki?
Hioki beat dude twice and one of those was a roast.

He beat Hominick on the ground once, he beat him standing once.
Hominick hasn’t improved much since then and his best win is Leonard Garcia. Hioki just beat Marlon fucking Sandro. And yet the polls say Hominick. Like I said, marketing budgets.
Although now that I see their names so close to each other, Garcia vs. Sandro sounds like a fun massacre.

Hioki's actually improved a great deal in the past 2 or so years
Which is a rare thing to say about a Japanese fighter.

That's fine
And all are understandable picks, but your hilarious joke seems to suggest that they were blatantly incorrect. My picks were all over the place, but I had the champions the same as they are. I wouldn’t put money on Velasquez/Overeem, but I would pretty confidently pick Aldo over Snuggie Mendes.

Having a discussion about it over on the other story,
but it’s definitely an underdog pick. Mendes is a different caliber of wrestler and that if Rashad can win of takedowns and inactivity with bad cardio in a much more talent rich division, Mendes can do it too. He’s also got brutal top control and a much better learning curve. All I know is that when the line opens at +300 for Mendes vs. Aldo, I’ll throw $20 on it. Just like all the marketing money going behind Urijah (WEC, KSwiss, Form) has made the line way too tight for his fight against Dominick, and I’m gonna get paid because of it.
The original comment was just a snarky side comment. I thought you knew me well enough by now.

Who do you think even comes to BE and partakes in these polls?
I doubt that there are many casual fans here that choose not to look past the marketing.
"Who are you and how the hell did you get in here?"

I'm glad someone else think Mizugaki is and always has been overrated
His fight with Torres really made him out to be something he’s not
Hint on Torres: he ain't that good either.
Big glossy record of midwest nobodies and awful challengers before the WEC really got cooking. When he started fighting legit guys, he got creamed.
Manny Tapia ain’t exactly THE boy.

I like the way Torres fought in his last fight. Implementing his jab, using good footwork, not throwing wildly..it may be too late tho. Johnson is just too damn fast for him.

These posts are pretty cool-eliminating the competition to find out
who is best of each weight class. I believe that eras in MMA are defined by the “biggest”/popular fighters of that era.
FIRST era: Royce Gracie and Ken Shamrock (93-96)
SECOND era: Randy Couture and Frank Shamrock (97-99)
THIRD era: Kazushi Sakuraba and Tito Ortiz (00-02)
FOURTH era : Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva (03-06)
FIFTH era: Anderson Silva and GSP (07-Present)
People who don't have the patience for the technical aspect of MMA should think about getting into another sport. THIS ONE requires BRAINS.
it almost feels like we are striving to find that next era with these kinds of posts.
Because in the end, Who the hell is the best MMA fighter out there?
