MMA World Cup: Light Heavyweight Finals

Will Jon Jones even break a sweat?

Well, this one seems kind of like a given. Jon Jones and Mauricio Rua advance to the gold medal match - and I think we have a pretty clear picture of how that plays out. The real question is what happens in the Bronze Medal Match. Let's decide, together you and I.

Gold Medal Match

1. Jon Jones vs. 2. Mauricio Rua

My Take: As the neww champ said so eloquently: "C'mon Son."

Bronze Medal Match

3. Gegard Mousasi vs. 4. Alexander Gustafsson

My Take: This is a tough one to call. Fans the world over are upset that Mousasi, born of Armenian heritage, is even allowed to compete for the team made up of former Soviet satellites and Republics. What can I say: that bag of cash from the CIS/Assorted team came at a desperate time for me and my family. Anyway, can Mousasi's experience save him from Alexander's better physical tools? I don't think so. Gustaffson becomes a star here.

  1. USA: Jon Jones
  2. Brazil: Mauricio Rua
  3. CIS/Assorted: Gegard Mousasi
  4. Europe:  Alexander Gustafsson
  5. Canada: Ryan Jimmo
  6. Asia/AUS: Ryo Kawamura

Gustaffson absolutely decimated Diabate, who is himself an excellent striker.

I say he batters Mousasi en route to a decision.

Is there any way

that we could log into B.E. and not have all these MMA World Cup stories show up? Very few people are paying attention to these (in comparison to the anything else on this site) and they are getting in the way of the the stories worth reading.

for example

There is another very popular tech blog called Gizmodo that gives its readers the option to block stories on a certain topic. So, say another iPhone comes out and not everyone wants to read the hundreds of articles about it. They give readers the option of blocking all iPhone related stories. I would LOVE that option with the MMA World Cup here on B.E.

lol funny how not even a month after it happened people still think rua can win…he got destroyed. he got KTFO’d and submitted at the same time. I think thats a first.

Yeah, we sure know how one of these will go...

I was rooting for Shogun the first time, and I’ll be rooting for him again….but he’s gunna get a bad case of elbow to mouth disease. Bones by T.K.O. in round two. Shogun had exactly two opportunities in their first fight. He had an opening to counter when Jones was trying two different spin moves, but nothing came of it. And I’d be lying if I didn’t admit I thought he’d loose the first time. The other one’ll be Mousasi via adequate output on the judges scorecards…but I would like to see the upset.
