MMA World Cup: Can Overeem Upset Velasquez to Win Fictional Gold?
Fedor Emelianenko and Junior dos Santos fought gamely, but ultimately fell to the UFC and Strikeforce champions respectively. It leaves fans with a dream match many have been calling for: champion versus champion for the first gold medal in fake MMA history.
Gold Medal Match
1. Cain Velasquez vs. 3. Alistair Overeem
My Take: Cain, the top seed, has decided the bout will be contested in the UFC's Octagon. In a nod to history, the event's organizers have asked legendary star Royce Gracie to officiate the proceedings. Can Cain take Overeem down and keep him there? That's the issue that stands above all others. Because if Cheick Kongo can make you dance on the feet, Overeem is going to have you dancing all the way to your grave. The answer though? Yes. Cain can wrestle, wrestle, wrestle for five rounds to win the first gold ever.
Bronze Medal Match
2. Junior dos Santos vs. 4. Fedor Emelianenko
My Take: Does Junior have it in him to dispatch another Pride legend? He's beaten up pudgy men before - but Fedor is no Roy Nelson. I like the Russian here, bringing glory home to the motherland which has struggled mightily in this competition.

I voted the "all-strikers" ticket
since its fictional, a man can dream.
Tatum: I think he's a good man. I like him. I got nothing against him, but I'm definitely gonna make orphans of his children.
I did too.
I think Overeem rocks Cain a la Kongo, but Overeem’s TDD is much better and he finishes from there. I can’t pick Fedor over many top level guys these days so JDS was an easy pick there.

Why are Cain and Overeem
the only ones uncrossed?

People are picking JDS over Fedor? Really??
I love rainbows, unicorns and chupa chups

I picked JDS over Fedor
Nothing I’ve seen in Fedor’s last two fights makes me think that he’d beat JDS.

Why aren’t the percentages adding up to 100?

GSP! GSP!
Let the fighters fight, let the referees ref, but dear God, don't let the judges judge.

the heavyweight world cup was definitely the best
it was pretty amazing how it worked out that the best american would have the best chance from his country vs every opponent, as would the brazilian. in the other divisions, a guy that wasnt top ranked could feasibly have better odds vs other fighters or even the top ranked fighter from his country, eg melendez vs edgar, machida having a better chance vs jones/mousasi/gustaffson than shogun, etc, so a pool of 12 people would have been better (4 american, 4 brazilian, 1 canadian, 1 euro, 1 russia, 1 aus/asia)
but heavyweight is just perfect. these are the fights we care about.
Wow, a lot of fans think Overeem will beat Cain. I just don’t see it happening. I think Fedor can outstrike JDS, too, but it would be close and I see why JDS is the favorite.
Is it possible for an administrator to change my handle? I want it to be "Genki Pseudonym." I just thought of that myself.
Cain's now ahead by 3
910 to 907. Damn.

Great fights...
I’d have to say JDS should take this one, but I’d like to see the upset. I say wild, looping Fedor punch in the second, and down goes JDS! I’m a big JDS fan but I wanna see Fedor have one last chance at glory. And I say early in the first, Cain gets clipped coming in for a takedown, but is able to close the distance, recover, and get the takedown. Cain’ll wear him down, and get the U.D.
