MMA World Cup: Bantamweight Semi-Finals
Pickett and Fabiano advanced from the opening round, despite Ivan Manjivar giving a game effort against Fabiano. Like their real life counterparts, even fantasy MMA fans are less interested in the little guys - they garnered far fewer votes than the big boys.
1. Dominick Cruz vs. 4. Wagnney Fabiano
My Take: Cruz has never really fought a Jiu Jitsu player like Fabiano. But then again, has anyone really fought someone like the hard-to-hit Cruz before stepping in the cage with him? Cruz will shudder, shake, and drive purists nuts with his footwork. He'll also win this one handily.
2. Takeya Mizugaki vs. 3. Brad Pickett
My Take: Mizugaki made a big impression taking Miguel Torres the distance at WEC 40 in 2009. It was a great performance, but perhaps a bit deceptive. It was the night of a lifetime for Mizugaki. Frankly, he's just not that good. Pickett should have what it takes to give Europe a much needed win.
- USA: Dominick Cruz
- Asia/AUS: Takeya Mizugaki
- Europe: Brad Pickett
- Brazil: Wagnney Fabiano
Canada: Ivan MenjivarCIS and Assorted: Artemij Sitenkov

Mizugaki still holds so much sway for going life and death with Torres.
Methinks Pickett grinds him out. Fabiano shouldn’t even be this far along in the tourney, but regardless he loses to Cruz handily. I’d go so far as to call a TKO.

I’m lovin’ the fantasy world cup J. Snowden…
Yeah, I think you nailed the picks on this one. Cruz will come out of this one looking really good. I envision Cruz toying with Fabiano on the feet, and a few dance moves into it, Cruz will land a laser beam to Fabiano’s chine-ski, dropping Fabiano to the floor. And Cruz’ll pick up the change with a flurry, getting himself another T.K.O. stamped on his record.
As much as I’d like to see Mizugaki do well, I’d have to give this one to Pickett, as long as he doesn’t concentrate too much on combing his hair over during the match. Pickett will mix in the strikes with his takedowns, and if nothing else, out point Mizugaki. I say Pickett by split decision, with two judges awarding him 30-27 scores, and the last one giving Mizugaki a 30-26 win, just for the heck of it.
