interesting fight.

Bad fight for Simpson.

Mayhem is better on the feet and on the ground. Simpson has the wrestling, but he’s damned if he do damned if he don’t.

Learn JiuJitsu, it's fun.

Not a good fight for Simpson. Miller should take this over 3 rounds.

132 isn’t looking so good in terms of star power, he probably gets a main card spot or a SPIKE prelim

by IRodC on Apr 23, 2011 3:59 PM EDT up reply actions

I predict this:

Main Card
Cruz v. Faber
Silva v. Leben
Bader v. Ortiz
Condit v. Kim
Miller v. Simpson

Spike
Guillard v. Roller
Dunham v. Sotiropoulos

Facebook
Everything else

They've been pushing Siver as a contender lately,

and with Wiman as a familiar TUF face, I think that one’s a no-brainer for the Spike card, along with Dunham and Sotiropoulos. Guillard-Roller definitely needs to be aired as well and I think it’s a lot more likely we’ll see that one on the PPV card and Miller-Simpson on Facebook.

by Scott Haber on Apr 23, 2011 4:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Perchance they are folling the same history of newly aquired fighters and matching them up with easy first shot opponents. Rampage beat Eastman in his UFC debut and give him the title shot after. Silva after he knocked out Chris Leben on a Fight Night Card. Belfort fought Rich and was a new Contender, Lesnar went 1-1 and became a contender, its all how the UFC feels fit and since the Middleweight divison is lackluster they have found a new contender I believe,

Main card for sure.

Agreed. This is a real shame. Miller has a huge personality, and the fact that he is not being matched up with a guy like Sonnen/Maia is just bad match making. If you can get Miller a championship shot , or at least high profile fights, you do it…

by p123 on Apr 23, 2011 7:12 PM EDT up reply actions

I think this is a good fight for Miller

And the fact that he is new blood in a cleaned out division indicates that he could rise fast as a contender.

Conducting an experiment on knocking people out in particular ways would be unethical.

Hopefully Mr.Kennedy and Jacare come over soon too, any word on when most Strikeforce contracts expire?

In Jacare's case

In addition to the champions clause, he would never fight Anderson. Would love to see him wreck Sonnen or Bisping though…

Bad matchmaking?

If anything, this shows me White/Silva WANT Miller to do well. They’re putting him in there with a guy who’s solid, but beatable. If they threw him in with Sonnen or Maia off the bat, then they signed him to be fresh meat.

Why add him to a stacked card, where he may barely make the PPV with Sonnen or Maia? They’re building him up for a bigger payday.

by JiltedEmu on Apr 24, 2011 11:52 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't see why everyone thinks Mayhem's going to win.

The last time he fought a wrestler (Shields) he got held down for the majority of the fight. The difference between Shields and Simpson is Simpson is bigger and stronger. I see A-Train dominating all three rounds over Mayhem.

I don't know

Aaron’s a pretty good grappler himself, given that he just out-grappled Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Mario Miranda. I’m not saying Mayhem can’t win, I’m just saying the likely scenario is a wrestlefucking.

by kreally on Apr 23, 2011 4:34 PM EDT up reply actions

I could see A-train getting a decision thanks to his wrestling but I think he will tire out after the first round or so and Mayhem will win a decision or submit him.

by Tats16 on Apr 23, 2011 4:51 PM EDT up reply actions

I'll be honest

It’s not just that I think Simpson can beat him, it’s that I want him to beat him. Actually, I want Aaron to knock him out. I don’t like Mayhem as much as I used too. I think he’s a hypocrite and an asshole.

by kreally on Apr 23, 2011 4:53 PM EDT up reply actions

why a hypocrite?

The fact that he hosts Bully Beatdown and claims to be bullied as a kid

Yet he did an interview a while back where he was picking on the guy interviewing him. Sure, the interviewer was acting weird and a little hyper, but that was no reason for mayhem to tease the kid because he was a mormon.

by kreally on Apr 23, 2011 5:45 PM EDT up reply actions

someone being a moron is the perfect reason to tease them.

Mayhem is a friend of a friend. He’s a stand up dude from what I hear.

by Cory Braiterman on Apr 23, 2011 5:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Nearly being the key word.

That 10 second choke doesn’t take away from the fact that he was severly outgrappled for the majority of the fight.

by kreally on Apr 23, 2011 5:53 PM EDT up reply actions   2 recs

Shrug

he was positionally dominated for 5 rounds, I agree, and that is clearly enough to win an MMA match. However, he was rarely ever in any danger and was the only one of the two to come close to finishing. I’d be perfectly fine seeing a rematch between the two and I think that if people want to label Shields’ grappling as BADONKAS WORLDS CLASS, then I think you have to give someone who is close to even with him some credit as well.

http://mixedmartialartsblogger.wordpress.com/

by Cory Braiterman on Apr 23, 2011 6:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah

but despite the fact that he was rarely in danger, he offered little resistance and didn’t work enough to get out of the bad positions he was in and work to a more advantageous position. The worst part was, he whined about the loss when it was clear he could’ve done more to win.

by kreally on Apr 23, 2011 10:17 PM EDT up reply actions

I think he might have been more upset about this

This is just a good fight for both of these two. I think that Mayhem is more well-rounded, but I feel that Simpson is the better wrestler and just generally stronger. Skillwise, I’ve always thought of Mayhem in the mid-tier of the Middleweight division, and until he beats stronger competition, it’s hard for me to think otherwise.

I'd rather see Mayhem vs Paul Harris!

http://youtu.be/fxY99_s9FW0 i’ll bet Mayhem still remembers Toquinho, could be an awesome match. the fire hydrant would also be an awesome nickname for Palhares btw.

by Matthi on Apr 23, 2011 4:34 PM EDT reply actions

Actually, I’d prefer Simpson vs. Harris. Big, strong wrestler vs. big, strong jiu-jitsu black belt.

by kreally on Apr 23, 2011 4:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Big is not the word I'd use to describe Harris

But I catch your drift. But I’d still prefer the Mayhem match. Both always entertaining. And both have different strengths: on the feet it’s Miller, on the ground it’s all Toquinho.. Book it!

Maybe

If Simpson vs. Miller is on the main card, it could possibly bring in a few more casuals.

by kreally on Apr 23, 2011 4:43 PM EDT up reply actions

It would be fairly low and not really promoted on the PPV I bet

The card lost its drawing power when Jones/Evans wasn’t an option and Penn/Fitch II was axed.

by SSreporters on Apr 23, 2011 4:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah I guess

It’s a shame because for the last two years, the July card has done really well. That was due to the fact that Lesnar was defending his title on those cards though. I don’t see how Cruz/Faber 2 can get a lot of buys without another title fight on the card.

by kreally on Apr 23, 2011 5:12 PM EDT up reply actions

I still don't understand why Jones/Evans wasn't an option.

Rashad will be good to go by then, and Jones took literally no damage in either of his last two fights.
