Little Nog wins via more ways to win. Most likely out striking Franklin.

Yeah,

I see Rogerio as the superior puncher. That knee to the body of his is just mean, too. If Rog can trip Franklin up and get on top, it will be interesting too. Rich has some great defensive grappling, so I don’t think Diet Nog will be able to sub him, but we shall see.

Rog by UD, or perhaps TKO.

I agree. Part of Lil Nog having two losses in a row was that he was fighting two high level wrestlers, and generally lost by getting taken down often. I don’t think that he’ll have to worry so much about getting taken down against Franklin, and I feel that Lil Nog is just the better striker. Also, Franklin has historically done badly against Brazilian southpaws: Anderson Silva, Vitor Belfort, and Lyoto Machida.

Lil Nog has looked bad thanks in no small part to terrible style matchups in his past three fights. Belfort, on the other hand, has gone on a streak where he faced 2 bums, 2 guys willing to stand with him, Matt Lindland and Anderson Silva. Forgive me for not buying a ticket on the “Vitor is elite now no seriously this time” train.

by lowellthehammer on Apr 22, 2011 10:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Really?

You don’t think that Vitor Belfor is/was an elite fighter? The question was never if Vitor is “elite seriously this time”- it was always “is he going to be the best in the division.” Elite to me is the top 3 to 5 fighters in a division (depending on the division)- Vitor has only lost to killers (except for the second Overeem fight when clearly Overeem was diminished). He certainly has his faults, but those faults are what have prevented him being one of the greatest fighters of all time. He’s definitely one of the greatest talents of all time… and Lil Nog fought his share of bums too-more than Belfort.

Jeez- I’m not even a Vitor fan- stop making em defend him.

Reem didn't have to cut enormous amounts of weight,

the bout was at heavyweight, so he performed very well. And IIRC, Vitor injured his shoulder or something in that fight too.

People were expecting too much from the Rio card.

If they had stacked that card as much as everybody wanted the other cards around it would have sucked badly.

Among the names that people wanted to see on the Rio card. Anderson, Rua, Big Nog, Lil Nog, Belfort, Wanderlei, Machida, Aldo, Maia, Paulo Thiago, Palhares, Cane, Falcao, Thiago Silva(before the suspension) and Royce, Renzo, and Roger Gracie.

by bigdmmafan on Apr 22, 2011 7:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Many fights that would be of middling interest for a North American gate. A lot of fights gain value in Brazil. Take this fight for example- it’s not greatly adding to the quality of this card- it would be a higher regarded fight in Rio than Philly. And shame on you for mentioning Falcao and Palhares with those others…..

by John Danaher's Hair on Apr 22, 2011 7:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Not every Brazilian can be on the Rio card. I think this is a great fight for the Philly card, Akiyama – Belfort is also solid, just needs a good headliner. You already have Anderson and Shogun booked for Brazil, and even then you have the possibility of adding big names like Big Nog, Machida, Aldo, etc.

I think we may be reaching a point

where all the champs from the beginning of the TUF era (or close to that time) are coming up near retirement, and people are clamoring for everyone to be inducted who ever touched gold. Just because people were champs for a bit isn’t the end-all be-all.

I am not making a statement necessarily on Rich, but just in general. I think the HOF need to be pretty stringent, or UFC will be like MLB with a ton of hacks like Tony Perez and Jim Rice in the HoF.

Yeah, Rich would probably be lucky to make it in. He doesn’t have meaningful wins, was never #1 in any weight class he fought at, never beat a top 3 guy. Look at the NFL. The NFL has been around since 1920 and they didn’t establish a Hall of Fame until 1963. Plus there isn’t nearly as many as respected figures figures in MMA yet for the HOF to be legit. UFC has only been around since 1993 and only semi-mainsteam since 2004-2005. Give it time. Because Joe Silva has been making very odd match ups and decisions lately.

But I can't give you this case, it don't belong to me. Besides, I've already been through too much shit this morning over this case to hand it over to your dumb ass.

its fucking simple

if Vitor fights Sexy he wont be getting a fight night bonus due to the flash KO and will be eligible for a pink slip

I don't think you understand what i'm saying.

Why would two big name brazilians not be fighting in the first Brazilian card in years? From what I hear Vitor is ridiculously famous in Brazil.

by av1o3 on Apr 23, 2011 2:01 AM EDT up reply actions

is the card finalized?

I still think Vitor will be fighting in Rio, its his hometown isnt it?

by elmojo on Apr 23, 2011 8:01 AM EDT up reply actions

Why is it stupid? They can’y have every Brazilian on the card. Plus, the event is going to do well no matter what, and I’m willing to bet they want Silva to be the focus, not the guy he knocked out last.

by MRR1 on Apr 23, 2011 9:58 AM EDT up reply actions

I don't think you understand how famous Vitor is in Brazil

Look it up, he’s even more famous than Silva. He’s considered like an A-list celebrity over there. Having him not fight there is really stupid. They can have both Silva and Vitor on that card.

sounds extremelly odd

especially since he was in the announcement press conference

UFC 133: Jones vs Evans.

Heard it here first.

Nope

Jones is out till September at least from what I remember. Unless he has superhuman healing or something.

by av1o3 on Apr 22, 2011 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Jones is hurt?

All I heard is after 128 he needed doctor clearance to fight again. The September/October thing came from Dana when asked when the fight would take place.

by bigdmmafan on Apr 22, 2011 7:52 PM EDT up reply actions

They just said that his suspension was indefinite

without giving any sign of how long until he can fight again. Normally when they give out those sorts of suspensions they end up being sidelined for a while.

by av1o3 on Apr 22, 2011 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Wait

why was he suspended.

Makes since seeing how hard he fucked Shogun face up.

This is a good fight. I like Franklin but I hope Nog can get back on track a bit. He deserves some wins after being fed to wrestlers.

Maybe if he wins and Shogun beats Forrest they can do the rematch.

Nog in my opinion got jobbed against Bader

Hopefully he can get back on track here.

Either way Brilz got jobbed in his fight.

I half agree with you

Brilz won and Bader lost in my opinion. So yes, it evened out.

Brilz lost and Bader won

I think both outcomes were correct.

Meh.

Gave him the first round and Rogerio the other 2, Bader didn’t do a lick of damage outside of the GnP he landed in round 1.

I distinctly remember giving Rogerio one of the rounds and thinking another was very close… I was expecting a 29-28 UD or SD in favor of Bader… but definitely not 30-27 across the board. (mmadecisions.com)

why according to fight finder he did win didn't he?

But seriously, he did no damage and landed almost nothing. Brilz also lost on my card, I think everyone was shocked because no one knew who Jason Brilz was and him making it as close at it was was pretty shocking.

im paying attention very closely to this card...cause IM GOING TO IT!! cant wait for the headliner though.

as for the champions, cruz no, aldo/hominick is a maybe, maynard/edgar little less likely, gsp/shields probably not bc gsp doesnt fight until 8 months after each fight hahah silva no, jones no, and cain no. im expecting bj penn as our headline or someone along those lines.

what i really want, after this aweful season of TUF is mayhem miller and michael bisbing as the next coaches. talk about the ratings shooting up fast…

Wow. All 6 fighters from the main card are coming off losses

This card is like 119

by Cpt Mason on Apr 23, 2011 8:48 AM EDT reply actions

Who gives a damn?

They’re all very skilled, exciting fighters. Does coming off a loss instantly make you uninteresting and unworthy of watching? Jesus.

I've just heard that line a million times,

and I think it really misses the point. My bad for jumping on it like I did, but that shit bugs me.
