Late Night Fights 3: BJ Penn vs BANG Ludwig
Background: BJ Penn has just shocked the world, knocking off Welterweight kingpin Matt Hughes in the very first round. However BJ leaves the UFC citing a lack of competitive fights. BJ signed with FEG K1 and Dana white was FURIOUS. Duane Ludwig was no joke ladies and gentleman. After shutting the lights off of Jens "Little Evil" Pulver, Ludwig took a decision over Genki Sudo at UFC 42 and was riding high into the super fight with "The Prodigy"
BJ Penn: 7-1-1
NW: Caol Uno, Din Thomas, Paul Creighton, Matt Serra, Matt Hughes, Takanori Gomi
NA: UFC WW Championship
Duane "BANG" Ludwig: 10-2
NW: Charles Bennett, Thomas Denny, Jens Pulver, Genki Sudo
NA: first man to KO Jens Pulver
BJ Penn Vs Duane Ludwig (via modifi3d)
Penn with a split second immediate takedown. Ludwig gains half guard. Short shots from Penn. "The Prodigy" moves to mount and lands some shots to the head. Penn postures up and Ludwig looking to brawl from the bottom, both men landing shots. Penn uses the 'rape choke' to control Ludwig's head and throw hammer fists to BANG's forehead. Ludwig tries to hold on and Penn transitions into an Arm Triangle. He shifts to side control to complete the submission and Ludwig is forced to tap.
Aftermath: Duane Ludwig unfortunately didn’t fare well after the Penn loss. Getting KO'ed in the first round in his next fight and going 10-8 since the Penn fight. He did however KO Jon Goulet in 4 seconds, a pretty cool thing to put on your resume. Ludwig most recently beat Slick Nick Osipczik by split decision at UFC 122. He does not have a scheduled fight (as far as i know) in the immediate future. After choking out BANG, The Prodigy went Gracie hunting and took out Rodrigo and Renzo sandwiched between a close losses to Lyoto Machida. BJ Penn has gone 8-6-1 since this fight. He did win the lightweight title in a demolishment of Joe Stevenson and defended his title three times. Penn most recently drew Jon Fitch in a fight that i scored 29-28 Penn.
All recs and comments are much appreciated. I’m very excited to hopefully continue this series into the future schedule permitting. Next time on LNF will either be Fedor Emelianenko vs Chris Haseman or Nick Diaz vs Jeremy Jackson 1. I haven’t decided yet.

Good work again bro
Conducting an experiment on knocking people out in particular ways would be unethical.
Brawling while mounted is just silly.

The background is a great addition
I think a lot of folks discount this win in hindsight because of Ludwig’s subsequent career trajectory, but it’s a testament to how well he was regarded at the time that BJ wanted no part of him standing.
Watching this
makes me wish that the UFC had screamy Japanese guys do all their announcing.
Great fight to watch.

Don't do Diaz/Jackson.
Or, if you do, supplement it with another fight as well. It lasts all of like a minute so it’s not worth a whole post on its own.

Diaz/Jackson is a trilogy.
Learn JiuJitsu, it's fun.

He said Diaz Jackson I.
I’m well aware it was a trilogy but good luck finding that second fight.

Duane had to pull out of his last fight with a sternum injury. Not sure when he fights again.
Damn! Remember the good old days when BJ used to fight on the ground as well?!?!?
Did you watch the Penn/Fitch fight?

The beginning of the Fitch fight
was very similar to how he started the Ludwig fight.
