TUF 13: Len Bentley Calls Brock Lesnar an 'A-Hole' and 'Turd'

Len-bentley_mediumPromoted by Kid Nate.

At the end of Wednesday's The Ultimate Fighter episode, Brock Lesnar team member Len Bentley stormed out of the locker room as Lesnar derided the group for what he perceived as not caring about training, fighting or winning. Bentley didn't want to hear what Lesnar had to say and in scenes from next week's episode, he rants a bit more on the former UFC Heavyweight Champion.

Not wasting any time, Bentley had some choice words about Lesnar in his weekly post-TUF blog for MMA Diehards after the show had aired.

From the post:

"It was extremely quiet while Brock was lecturing us.  Brock went off on Clay because he thought Clay wasn’t listening to him while he was asking the other coach a question about the fight.  Then Brock started ranting that we are all walking around here all high and mighty or something to that effect.  That’s when he rattled off the cities we are from.

When he got to Seattle, I was pissed.   This a-hole is saying I’m chicken sh*t and I am walking around all high and mighty when this turd didn’t even show up for my fight and hadn’t even taken the time to watch it when he got back."

Bentley also addressed why he wasn't excited to see Matt Hughes stop by to work with Team Lesnar:

"While the other guys might have been excited about the special guest Brock brought in — none other than Matt Hughes — all I could do was shake my head and laugh.  Hughes is probably the one cause guy i really didn’t want to see.

My training partner, Dennis Hallman, is the only man to beat Hughes twice and never suffered a loss to him.  Because Hughes talked some trash about Dennis in his book, I’m really not a fan. You did not see much of me during that segment."

Bentley will appear on MMA Diehards Radio Thursday to talk more about the experience.

It was really good fight

And he prolly has reason to be upset. But not wanting to train with Hughes because of what he said in his book is ridiculous. The guy is a rookie and there’s no way Matt doesn’t have a hell of a lot to teach him.

Conducting an experiment on knocking people out in particular ways would be unethical.

You guys hit the nail on the head

Also I don’t get why these guys would be pissed at Brock, I know he’s not much for motivational speeches but unless it’s all Zuffa marketing Brock seems to be trying to do the best job he can. Also I was very impressed with Nick Ring Ramsey last night. Dude wanted to win, wish I could say the same about Raider he seems like a nice enough guy.

What a fantastic example of the 2011 “Everyone gets a medal” mentality. So if I think a TV show is garbage, despite not knowing how to direct one myself, I’m supposed to just sit there and watch it? No. I’m going to pick up the remote, announce that this show sucks balls, and change the channel.

But, I’m starting to warm up to Brock (I never was very fond of him as a fighter or as a personality) and Junior seems like the coolest dude ever.

He referred to the teams victory as making chicken salad out of chicken shit I believe. The fighters being the chicken shit. Twas amusing.

Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.

I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.

That match got fight of the night for all the wrong reasons, but I can’t seem to think of any kind of counterargument to suggest that the fight wasn’t awesome.

He could’ve chosen his words better but Lesnar skipped out on his fight (albeit for personal reasons), and without watching the fight (Bentley fought his heart out), he called out Bentley and even went so far to say ‘he took the wind out of his sails’. Seems like an asshole move to me.

Whoa a smart person? Not too many of these around!

agreed.

People who don't have the patience for the technical aspect of MMA should think about getting into another sport. THIS ONE requires BRAINS.

‘he took the wind out of his sails

What do you think this means? I’m not sure that you understand; it simply means that Brock was upset to hear that Len had lost, and I fail to see how that makes Brock an asshole.

Thanks for your contribution to the thread Hutchy. Its true, Brock was upset to hear that Len lost but to say ‘he took the wind out of his sails’ without giving the fighter the proper attention he deserves is nothing short of bad coaching and to me, an asshole move. That my take on it.

Brocks got a very good attitude in that respect.

Yea, Im chicken shit. You know why? Cuz I aint the best! You know what? Im gonna m’fucking change that. Im gonna train, eat, sleep, train till I’m the best.

I’m sure Brock is losing sleep over this. I pretty much agree with the theme here, that this guy is young fighter and thinks he doesn’t have anything to learn from Matt Hughes, what a joke. Have fun fighting in regional shows for the rest of your career, TUF is probably the peak.

TOOL! He’s acts like he"s so good. If you"re so good buddy why are you on the UF?

Is it just me...

Or do about 11 of the 14 guys on this seasons show seem like bitches? I mean they cant handle criticism at all. If they trained where I did they’d get upset and walk out after the first day. I mean hell they complain about every fucking thing. So he called you chicken shit? Boo hoo I get called worse on a daily basis by people not trying to help me improve. And then on top of that they are all turning on the only guy on their team to win a fucking match? Whatever I hope Brock rips Len a new asshole by seasons end.

by Spider_Vemon on Apr 21, 2011 8:17 AM EDT reply actions

"chicken shit"

is generally not a motivating term, so its possible that Brock was showing support for Len sticking up for himself.

It was hard to tell, though.

by CaptnAmerca on Apr 21, 2011 11:50 AM EDT up reply actions

Hah.

That “chicken shit” meme is getting so overused by Brock that it just makes me laugh harder every time he says it.

Jesus H Tapdancing Christ on a cracker

Brock is using a backwoods idiom, he isn’t actually calling them chicken shit he’s just telling them to make the best of what they got (which these guys are showing this season isn’t much). If Brock said “If you can’t run with the big dogs, you’d better stay on the porch” and they thought he was actually calling them dogs we would all think they were idiots, it’s just that Brock drug this idiom off a farm somewhere and for some reason it seems to be the only saying he knows. Maybe later in the season he will take someone to the woodshed or make a mountain out of a molehill.

by who me on Apr 21, 2011 1:17 PM EDT up reply actions

To be honest,

these guys don’t want to be called “chicken shit”, but in the grand scheme of things… that’s what they are. Compared to the elite fighters in the 170 lb. division, these guys aren’t any more than chicken shit. Can they get better, and attain the coveted rank of “chicken salad”? Maybe. I think some of these guys have potential (although 2 of the guys I thought had the most upside have left the competition).

That Ramsey guy, although he doesn’t look like a real offensive dynamo, actually did a good job of finishing his takedowns, and looks to have a decent pressure clinch game.

From Anthony Ferguson's TUF blog\recap:
After the fight was over they showed coach Lesnar throwing the stool into the cage after Charlie lost. I believe Dana White is right. It does show Brock cares. He wants to win, badly. Nothing that happened on the show told me he didn’t take his job seriously. Throwing a stool maybe isn’t the most professional thing ever, but so what? I liked that Brock cared. That’s what mattered most to me.

As for Brock’s speech after Charlie lost, it was tough love. He wasn’t being nice, but he wasn’t trying to be. He didn’t have to be. He was tryin to get us fired up. He wanted us to take winning seriously. Everyone saw Len Bentley walk out of the room after the ass chewing was in full swing. Len is a great fighter and a tough guy, but he’s sensitive, too. Maybe the emotions were raw from losing his fight, but I didn’t have any problem with what coach Lesnar said. I don’t think Len takes criticism as well as others might.

Just my take

Judging just by the brief view of the look on Brock’s face and his tone of voice, it didn’t SEEM that he was being sarcastic. I think Brock realised Len had actually fought his heart out and so he tried to be supportive. The “good for you” was in response to Len saying he fought his heart out, rather than the “I don’t need to listen to this”.

But of course, Len took it the worst possible way and thinks Brock is a sarcastic prick. Who knows, really. I think Brock’s “chicken shit” comments are repetitive and demoralising, but the fighters shouldn’t go all primadonna.

Think of the military.

Anyone been in the military? How was basic? You are “chicken shit” next to real soldiers.

This guy is one of those guys that would shoot himself in the leg to get out of basic training, a place that is rough, but ultimately has great goals for you.

Ignoring Hughes would be equivalent to ignoring a CO who has already served several tours simply because your buddy scored higher on the firing range.

After graduation, Bentley joined the military and served as an Infantryman in the United States Army for six years, including multiple tours in Iraq.

I would expect more mental resolve

from someone with those credentials. Len had (and apparently still has) a pretty shitty attitude about the whole situation. He seems to think he is beyond reproach, and almost has an air of arrogance. But I don’t see it justified.

by Kungfucious on Apr 22, 2011 12:42 PM EDT up reply actions

To be fair,

he did fight hard, and it was pretty dickish of Lesnar to aim those comments at everyone, considering that he didn’t even show up for Bentley’s fight.

Len is definitely being a diva, but so is Lesnar.

True

But the roles here are coach and coached. As a competitor, I don’t think I would want my coach being OK with losing. And seeing as how he wasn’t directing anything at Len directly (other than the stupid naming of the cities), Len just comes off as a punk when he pouts and storms off.

The blog from Anthony Ferguson detailed how I thought the situation would be viewed by those with stout hearts— it was tough love, and it was necessary.

Let’s no forget they are getting the tamed version of Brock, here. If he were still dissing Bud Light and flipping off fans, how much worse would his rants be after a loss? I don’t know about you, but “chicken shit” doesn’t exactly get my feathers ruffled.

by Kungfucious on Apr 23, 2011 7:54 AM EDT up reply actions

If I had just fought my ass off and was getting berated after it by a guy who didn't even show my feathers would be pretty ruffed.
