if he still feels he should verbally threaten fighters with which he has disagreements. Also ask him why he feels that people shouldn’t be compensated for their likeness when they are being used to sell tickets.

We always counted the UFC and WEC as different promotions. Don’t see how that’s any different
And Bellator has better top level fighters and more exposure in North America. I’d say they’re pretty clearly above MFC

Not just in terms of views but in terms of media exposure. There’s a reason we cover Bellator more than MFC and it’s not just more shows.

MFC still has proven sustainability and is the #3 promotion. Bellator has more of a chance to fold, and MFC doesn’t overextend itself. For as much crap as people give Pavelich, he’s done it in Canada.

Yet they can’t do anything even close to really creating a star. If I’m talking to people who casually follow MMA they tend to know that Bellator exists, not so much with MFC

Nobody will create the stars the UFC does. Bellator’s contract hell is killing their prospects for the future. MFC is lax on that part, and those successful prospects will leave. Pavelich really hasn’t found an ultra-exciting guy either. Lima could be that guy, but he’s a guaranteed UFC guy down the road. He’ll leave.

I think the big reason a lot of people watch the screen is that it's what they're used to
We all watch the UFC programs on TV, and when you tilt your head up to the screen when the action gets obscured, you just stay more subconciously than anything else. It’s the view and production you’re used to, and when the grappling comes back into effect you naturally go back.

My take on the bellator thing is that Saturdays are such a fucking bad day for their shows. If there isn’t marquee MMA, I’m skipping it for marquee boxing and catching up on Bellator the next morning on DVR. Usually with it playing in the background as I’m going to work on my keyboard for the site and only half paying attention.
I don’t think Bellator events are “bad” or “hard to watch” but i’m not skipping a marquee event in boxing or MMA to catch Bellator.

Considering the Bellator format
Could it be that the tourney format is turning people off? Instead of being ‘unique and exciting’ could the irrelavent nature of the fights outside of their own promotion, make it easily dismissable?
Also, it is indeed in dire need of an HD broadcast.
Bellator is like American Gladiators. You’ve got these decently athletic dorks (Pat Curran) battling to get their shot at Nitro. And you know Nitro will kick their ass

I still think Bellator should do Saturday afternoons. Old school boxing on NBC style. NBC used to kill it with saturday afternoon boxing ratings because people are hanging out in their house, killing time until the night when they’ve got whatever to do. Saturday evening/night though? Am I the only one who thinks the UFC is really missing the boat by pushing just the GSP-Shields fight in the lead up to UFC 129? I know a lot of “casuals” who have zero interest in this show, mainly because they don’t know how awesome the rest of the card is. The GSP-Shields fight on it’s own is not particularly compelling.

I think the lack of promotion for Aldo-Hominick is the UFC’s worry that selling Jose as this monster who’s been destroying everyone and then Hominick ends up winning a decision in Canada. By not hyping Aldo the UFC can put together a highlight for both of them before the fight (Canadian pride for Hominick, Aldo’s highlight reel KOs, whatever they want) and whoever takes the fight becomes a much bigger draw as the champion with a potentially stronger fanbase who didn’t buy the card for this fight.
You retired from kick boxing in 2006. If you had to do it all over again, would you have tried fighting in MMA?
Jean-Charles Skarbowsky: No.
If Aldo loses, and becomes a “former UFC champion” while going 0-1 in the promotion, I will laugh until I cry.
In the clearing stands a boxer And a fighter by his trade And he carries the reminders Of ev'ry glove that layed him down Or cut him till he cried out In his anger and his shame "I am leaving, I am leaving" But the fighter still remains

My bank account would be very upset
A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night, and in between he does what he wants to do.

If the UFC would give open access to their video library, it could only help their brand...
People would see these amazing fights, for free, and it would basically reinforce the notion that if you want to see high level MMA, you come to the UFC. New fans could compare the UFC product to what is on television now, and see for themselves how superior the UFC is.
Seems like the value of bringing in new fans and the possible future PPV buys would be so much greater than the $1.99 or whatever they charge on a per fight basis to the current fanbase.
I don't think they can give them away for free, since there's still value
But I do think that playing with the pricing structure could help things. Maybe making a $10-15/month for a free-for all would work, with the past three to five events being locked out to keep up DVD/PPV sales.
Intrepid.

They used to have a free-for-all, then cut it off within the last year or so. Also, the UFC Vault is a terrible piece of software.

I think the software is fine
But the navigation is god-awful. I bought a PPV to stream it, and actually getting to the prelims to watch later was extremely difficult, not to mention having to login several times.

To Fagan’s point. You didn’t promote Mike Tyson’s fights by making him seem like he’s going to lose. That didn’t hurt Buster Douglas when he won…

He dropped the title to Evander Holyfield, spent a few more years fighting. I don’t know exactly what he’s up to now but he was at a Strikeforce show earlier this year.

The last time I saw him, Buster looked like he was up to around 350 pounds.

![MFC promoter Mark Pavelich slams Bellator: (audio)
"I don’t like it. I don’t watch it, I don’t know anybody that does watch it. They do a show every six months, I don’t know if they are doing a contest or some kind of tournament thing or what.
"They are going to be the pet rock, the rubix cube [of MMA.] They are just not any kind of… I can’t name even five people on the fighter roster," Pavelich said.
