Hmmm....I can see why.
He was seconds away from at least taking Condit to a draw if not the win and looks legit.
Diaz appears to be permanently stuck in the Prelims on Spike/PPV Opener/Fight Night phase. Not that he isn’t good, but he is a gatekeeper in both weight classes. Really fun to watch and him vs. Rory should be FOTN material.

FOTN at this event should be huge for however gets it. Hopefully they get it!

As much as he may be a gate keeper
He did a smart move by changing weight classes and doing well in both. He didnt bump his weight up too much so he can still easily make 155 and he was really competative there. This just extends the life of his mediocre career and I thought that it was a really smart move. Because as soon as he starts to lose fights or they realize he doesnt have it at 170 he just can drop back down to 155 and be competative there.
Seriously don't take me serious. Seriously....
Mediocre? Anything but. To be able to survive in the ufc means you would be a champion at pretty much any regional show. Middle of the pack (where Diaz lies) means you are one of the best in the world. He may not be top 10 but he is far from mediocre and still has years left in the sport to make something happen.

Well put Jaee. I think that both of the Diaz brothers are very underrated. Nick has been getting more hype recently but he’s been one the best fighters that noone has known, for quite sometime. Nate is still trying to come up and has had some hiccups but he is constantly improving in all areas. Both of them fight for the whole 15 or 25 min that they are in the cage. They can both take punches. Most of all, they are creative and entertaining to watch. I’ve never seen a boring Diaz fight.
They are extremely underrated. I also think their style leads to some bad decisions. THey are the kinds of guys you can never count out, with chin and cardio like theirs, a submission chop to take out guys that on paper they shouldnt be able to and their unique style of fighting (which is disorienting to be on the receiving end of). I think the saying “Any given sunday” describes the Diaz Brothers in a nutshell.
"I’m anti-stalling, not anti-wrestling." - lowellthehammer
Nate would be great for a no time limit fight. Yeah, you can hold him down for 20 minutes, but then he’ll get up and kick your ass. I’ve never seen him stopped, or even seem very hurt (although a wiki search advises me that he got armbarred by Hermes Franca in 2006, prior to his TUF stint, for his sole stoppage loss)
I consider myself a softcore fan.
I agree. Their ideal weight just happens to be the one class with by far the most high level MMA Wrestlers.
I hate pulling stuff out of my ass like this with no hard evidence to back it up, but judging by appearances I think when they drop to 155 they actually lose a significant amount of weight, rather than simply cutting from 175 (or whatever they are in peak condition) down to 155 in the true sense of the word.
I have been laughed at for this before, but I think Nick/Anderson would be an outstanding fight…

I’ll wager that Daley hits about as hard as Anderson does, if not harder (in the cage). I certainly wouldn’t pick Diaz to win, but it would be a fun, competitive fight I think.
Honestly I think either Diaz or especially Shields would match up better with Anderson than they do with GSP, although they likely lose to either.

i think i would give diaz a better chance than sheilds
diaz has legit stand up, its not worldclass, but its goddamn frustrating to opponents. sheilds has turrrrrible stand up (channeled my inner barkley)
his take downs, or drag downs as it were, are so-so. i just feel that diaz is better rounded thus giving him a better shot. andersons strength is sheilds weakness, dont see that going well for jakey-poo
Jonny Bench called.
by Sterling Archer on Apr 20, 2011 11:54 AM EDT up reply actions
Because Nick doesnt charge in, I suspect he would do better than many people think, he peppers from range so no true momentum to counter with (anderson uses forward movement from his opponent to make his strikes more viscous). Also, his takedown D and weak takedowns wouldnt be a huge knock… Fighting is like rock scissors paper… he may stylistically be able to pull it off.
Anyone who laughs is a fool. While I agree with sterling, there is a good chance that any puts his away fast, I also think he is a live dog in that fight.
"I’m anti-stalling, not anti-wrestling." - lowellthehammer
Mediocre I guess may have been the wrong word
but he is no Nick Diaz. I agree but he still wins fights, that I see him having no business winning. I’m one of the few that def underrated him I guess. I never see h being a title contender and he has been the lucky one of a alot of good match ups. I don’t disrespect Nate, but he’s been like a clay guida except more exciting and I was stating it was a smart move to switch weight classes and extend his career length and earnings. BTW I enjoy his fights.
Seriously don't take me serious. Seriously....
that's a fair statement
I’m a Diaz fan, and I would not like his chances of seeing a title shot until he finds a way to deal with wrestlers that doesn’t involve losing rounds so readily under the current scoring. But if all he ever does is put on entertaining fights and give the double bird to the camera while executing triangle chokes, I’m ok with that.
I consider myself a softcore fan.
Let me take a stab...
900,000 PPV buys, a full house (what’s that, over 50,000 seats?), and Dana starts throwing around the heavy cash… $100k or bigger for the FOTN and other bonuses.
For all intents and purposes,
that is an even line.

In theory, like in the NFL, the opening lines are generally set where they expect to get equal action on both sides and adjust as the money flows in.
Of course, also like the NFL, I imagine that there are certain things that the bookies “dangle” to try to create action by taking advantage of known fan biases.

The question you have to ask yourself
is whether or not Kim’s takedowns in the 2’nd round (that lead to nothing) are really better than Nate’s strikes. He really was marking DHK’s face up with the jab. I think we can all agree round 1 was 10-9 Kim, and round 3 was 10-9 Diaz.
I can live with someone scoring round 2 as a 10-10, but personally lean towards 10-9 Diaz, and 29-28 Diaz overall.

I didn't think so.
Gray landed the much harder, clean shots throughout. Nate put up a good amount of volume, but I think Maynard’s quality prevailed over Diaz’ quantity.

This
Nate clearly won that fight he landed way more and better strikes. Gray just stood in front of him and Nate played it perfectly and used his reach and volume of strikes to pick Gray apart. I’m going to re-watch that fight right now just to make sure I seen it right the first time.

A bit annnoying, maybe it was the beard. But honestly why does he always bash mma while comparing it to the major sports in the us. I know its kinda the style here to be controversial but it was just annnoying. And I’m not bashing BE in any way, its one of only 2 or 3mma sites I visit daily all day.
I liked the shit out of Luke and his style, especially in the comments section.

Isn’t Nick a favorite on both? If you bet on him in both cases you get more money back with the same money.
Diaz reminds me of this.

Deep down they are both intelligent men.
And I reckon Diaz opening at underdog is easy money.
Just needs to learn how to ‘work’ the judges a little more.
