UFC 129: Vladimir Matyushenko Plans to Keep it Standing With Jason Brilz
UFC Light Heavyweight Vladimir Matyushenko talks to MMAheat.com at the VMAT Gym in El Segundo, CA and gives his thoughts on his upcoming fight at UFC 129. "The Janitor" will be facing Jason Brilz and has been preparing with his main training partners Jared Hamman and Virgil Zwicker. Vlad also talks about his loss to newly crowned UFC LHW Champ Jon Jones (at the 5:10 min mark):
"I've been training for (Jason Brilz) for my last fight, so I've been training for him for the last few months before my last fight. For me, it's a continuation of my training before. I think it's going to be an exciting one. He showed himself pretty good against Nogueira in his last fight so he's got some skills and some man power there."Apr 30th, live on Pay-per-view from Toronto, Ontario, Canada:
"Wrestling is a big part of MMA but you can't really beat somebody by wrestling. It's transition from striking to submission; so it's either going to be ground and pound or we're going to stay on our feet, you really can't beat somebody by taking them down. I'll try to keep it on my feet and knock him out."
"People are telling me (that I'm a gate keeper) but it matches my nickname, "The Janitor", get rid of the garbage. But there's always a chance to win a championship. My thing is I'm always in decent shape and people get hurt in this sport and I've been in a few situation where somebody calls me two weeks before and I'll take the fight. I can still fight for the championship. I see myself there."

Vlad's a class act.
Not my favorite fighter style wise, but he’s definitely a professional.

Dude is a good sport about being called 'The Janitor'
I had never heard him talk before, he’s more eloquent that most native English speakers. Nice.
Never approach a vast undertaking with a half-vast plan.
Best fight on the UFC 129 Card
Jason “John” Brilz vs Vladimir “Uncle” Matyushenko
The ultimate backyard brawl, I have made a request they have this portion of the card outside as both men prefer to brawl on some well kept grass after having some beer and nachos.

I like that he has no illusions about where he is at in the UFC
This quote said it best, "People are telling me (that I’m a gate keeper) but it matches my nickname, “The Janitor”, get rid of the garbage." I know that he talked about possibly winning championships, but even then, he said that there is only a chance. I just get the impression that he knows where he’s at, and as a gatekeeper, he does his job very well. He really is that guy where if UFC light heavyweight can’t beat him, then that UFC light heavyweight is just not ready for the next level of competition.
