Brock Lesnar on Fighting Words With Mike Straka
Coach of season 13 of The Ultimate Fighter, Brock Lesnar sits down with Mike Straka. The former UFC Heavyweight champion discusses his time on the hit reality TV show. Lesnar also talks about his transition from the world of professional wrestling into mixed martial arts.
"This is now my third opponent with heavy hands. Shane Carwin, Cain Velasquez, now Junior dos Santos. One of these times I got to get it right. So we'll see what happens and we'll see if I'm well prepared for Junior. But I think I am. I think I've got this figured out. I wasn't able to get my 8 to 10 fights against guys much less caliber than myself. Shane Carwin fought not very tough guys; they weren't the toughest guys on the block. Cain Velasquez worked his way up the ladder. My way of working up the ladder has been Frank Mir, Heath Herring, Randy Couture, Shane Carwin. So I’m working my way up the ladder against no guys to shrug you're shoulders at."

This is true.
His second mma fight is against a former UFC Champ. That is a tough rode he took to build up his skills.

Einemo..
Seriously WTF
Strikeforce in Dallas!!
Mayweather = embarrassment

by nerdVictory
That must be an indication on the toll the surgery had on him
After a layoff like that I doubt he’s ready for someone like Nelson.
this guy Einemo sounds like a pretty legit grappler
if he can avoid the heavy hands – Carwin is the most one-dimensional fighter in MMA – he can win. I honestly see this fight as 50-50. Carwin impresses me not at all other than having crushing power.
Vote Quimby
I think Carwin fighting Einemo is more reflective of there not being a lot of good heavy’s available for Carwin to fight at that time, and they do not want to remove him from UFC 131. All the top 10 dudes are pretty much busy, and unless they wanted to sacrifice Nog to him (which would be fucking cruel) or have him sit longer, they needed to find someone. Who knows maybe this new guy will suprise us. I’m not betting on it but it’s happened before.

He said has 1 fight left in him so.......... lol
Seriously though I dont think it’s anyworse than when they gave Cro Cop/JDS. That was BADDDDDD.
He's making the most money in the game.
I don’t think he has much room to talk about his road being too tough.
Well put it this way.
How would Brock be if he was brought up through the ranks like Cain, Sharwin, and Dos Santos were?

He makes the money.......
because he puts asses in the seats. People tend to forget the business side. It’s quite simple…..If you draw you get paid, case closed. As for his road being tough, that has nothing to do with money. Not many have fought at this level in their first seven fights.
Sure but Dana White isn't going to be paying a guy that kind of Cash
to build a guy up slowly and have him fight cans. Brock probably earns more from the UFC than all it’s other champs combined. When you hear Rashad Evans talk about Lesnar’s money situation you can hear the envy in his voice.
I sincerely doubt that
Maybe if you dont include GSP but unless GSP’s management is very inept at negotiating GSP has to be getting paid.
Ya I think GSP and Randy make the biggest paydays, because well its GSP and for Randy I think he gets a cut of the PPV

Brock gets a piece of PPV revenue like GSP and Randy
BUT every PPV he’s on does over 1,000,000 buys EVERY time. Nobody comes close to that. I wouldn’t be suprised if his shared revenue of PPV is bigger than both Randy and GSP either so yeah I don’t think it’s a huge leap to say he makes more than all the champs combined. Edgar, Jones, Cain are making chump change compared to him so really it boils down to Anderson and GSP and Silva’s PPV #’s are pretty poor.
Silva’s numbers used to be but not anymore.
UFC 97 – 650K
UFC 101 – 850K
UFC 112 – 500K
UFC 117 – 600K
UFC 126 – 725K
Same with GSP
UFC 87 – 625K
UFC 94 – 920K
UFC 100 – 1.6 million
UFC 111 – 850K
UFC 124 – 785K
And yes I’m well aware that Brock’s last 4 PPV’s have broke 1 million buys but unless he gets a much higher % then GSP and Silva I simply dont see a away that he is taking home more than everybody combined.
If you left out GSP or Silva then it probably becomes a true statement.
i think brock easily makes more money than Anderson, not only because of PPV buys, but just look at their reported salaries
Anderson
UFC 82 – $140,000
UFN – $200,000
UFC 117 – $200,000
Brock Lesnar
UFC 81 – $250,000
UFC 91 – $450,000
UFC 100 – $400,000
UFC 116 – $400,000
UFC 121 – $400,000
GSP
UFC 94 – $400,000
UFC 100 – $400,000
Honestly Chuck was probably the highest paid UFC fighter
here are chuck's numbers
UFC 47 - $100,000
UFC 49 - $120,000
UFC 52 - $140,000
UFC 54 - $160,000
UFC 57 - $250,000
UFC 62 - $250,000
UFC 66 - $250,000
UFC 71 - $500,000
UFC 76 - $500,000
UFC 79 - $500,000
UFC 88 - $500,000
UFC 115 - $500,000
This is stupid!
How does he get paid 500k for getting his last 5 fights is crazy! He has a ud over Wandy and 4 losses. split to the dean, and KO/TKO by Evans, Shogun, and Franklin.
Jules: Normally, both your asses would be dead as fucking fried chicken, but you happen to pull this shit while I'm in a transitional period so I don't wanna kill you, I wanna help you. But I can't give you this case, it don't belong to me. Besides, I've already been through too much shit this morning over this case to hand it over to your dumb ass.
Because he's still a draw
His last fight against Rich Franklin did better PPV numbers then Shogun/Jones.Money in combat sports doesnt boil down to wins and losses.
Because there base pay is worked out long before they fight
when he signed his contract prior to getting KO’d by Jackson and his career took a dive he was still the biggest draw and most marketable fighter the UFC had so it’s reflected in those #‘s. Plus this is just base pay. Their cut of PPV buys is alot more than that and isn’t reported.
Didn't Realize Anderson #'s picked up so much
But what they seem to be doing with Silva is loading up the cards he’s on. 126 was ridiculously stacked, 101 he didn’t even headline and he was fighting Griffin (big draw) so you know that was stacked as well. You take those 2 cards out and he’s essentially a slightly above average draw where the average is 500k…..So I doubt his cut of PPV % is as high as Lesnar. So for instance (and I’m pulling these numbers out my ass to elaborate) say Lesnar and GSP get 25% of PPV Revenue on top of their reported pay my guess is Anderson will get between 10-15%. And GSP isn’t close to Lesnar when it comes to buy rates so….
It will be a long while before Carwn,Cain or JDS makes the same amount of cash that Brock has. That being said credit to him for winning the title and defending it twice. I don’t see him long for MMA tough.

When he says "got it right"
does he man that he was able to be a human punching bag without getting knocked out until the other guy got tired?
Its sad really.
The dude was never really knocked or hella wobbly when he was getting smashed by cain and carwin, its just that he reacts horribly to getting punched and ends up making alot of mistakes.

If it wasn’t for his giant forearms he would have probably been unoconscious.

Doesn't it mean the opposite...
If he lists the ppl he’s fought with heavy hands and says one of these days I got to get it right… doesn’t that mean he hasn’t gotten it right yet but needs to figure it out at some point

He needs to pay a visit to the Golden Glory Camp.

i've been saying that shit for months
either Golden Glory or some camp in Thailand. he learns quick, and it would be phenomenal for him.

Hmm
Then Brock should have worked his way up just like any other non blond haired and blue eyed WWE wrestler would have had do.
This dude complaining about the level of fights he’s had is pathetic. When you’re making his money, you don’t fight cans.
by NoHo on Apr 16, 2011 6:50 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
I'm pretty sure it was much less complaining and much more 100% pure facts.

I’m not a Brock fan. But that’s just silly, “blonde haired, blue eyed?” what the fuck does that have to do with anything. Picking at straws isn’t the way to win this argument. Brock got the top fights because he makes people order the fights and helps bring over the WWE base.
Do I think Brock should be getting that kind of money and fights? nope, I’d rather he got some more experience first, but that’s for Dana to decide, not me.
I think he’s actually a pretty down to Earth, good guy. But as a fighter he just doesn’t react right to punches, and he isn’t going to learn how to by sparring with large wrestlers and Pat Berry. The way he’s talking it sounds like he is just hoping to get lucky and find a takedown. I predict a JDS TKO rd 2.

Rec’d because it’s exactly how I feel. I didn’t like him at all during his first 3 fights, but throughout his interviews and such, I can respect him for sure. He still isn’t one of my favorites, but you gotta give him props for going in and fighting such beasts right off the start of his career. He still can’t take a punch worth shit though. It’s bad.

How can you say he can't take a punch!
He got lit up bad in his last two fights but he was fighting carwin and Velasquez, the biggest hitters in all of mma.
I don’t think anybody could walk through those kind of punches!
how do you expect him to react to those shots!
nobody in the ufc has been able to take carwins punches! And epsn measured the force behind one of cains punches, and i don’t remember the numbers but it definitley said that there was enough power there to knock out a horse!

Sports Science is an athlete in optimum conditions throwing his best punch at his hardest with his best technique at his leisure.
Randy and Mir both exposed Brock somewhat striking-wise, neither of whom are really noted for serious power.
Dude just doesn’t react well to getting hit, his camp weren’t even allowed to hit him in the face. Carwin didn’t even hit him flush and Brock ran. He reacts like someone who isn’t used to being hit, which he isn’t. It’s as simple as that.
As a Brock fan from way back, allow me to retort
Actually, no, you’re right, dude hates getting hit in the face. Most people do, though. Then again, most people aren’t MMA fighters.
"Complacency is your demise." - Kerry King
He was guaranteed 400k for UFC 116
Carwin was guaranteed 40k…It isn’t all bad for him. Still tough competition for his first fights.
