The previously unseen Diaz KO punch- right hook to the jaw deflects Daley’s head something awful and was missed by the SHO cameras.

Well, honestly, the camera work of the Showtime crew is oft criticized in boxing as well, it's a pretty well established gripe.

All camera crews mess up. UFC always has audio and some off angles as well. All Im saying. lol

I'm not saying it to denigrate SHO....
there was just a ton of dialogue and confusion over what caused Daley to get rubber legs- now we know. This is the first look we’re getting of it…

Shields striking will be his undoing in this fight
Shields has fought guys that are far weaker where he is strong. This is not the case with GSP in the slightest

The only way Shields will strike with GSP is if
he’s smoking with Nick Diaz before his fight to calm his nerves.
Shields has no intentions of standing with the super-fast GSP.
Thanks for the gif!

Mayhem is a damn good grappler and Shields dominated him on the ground for most of the fight.
That being said, I just can’t see GSP losing to Shields.

Did anyone notice when Mr. Scientific-Jiu-Jitsu-Funny Hair-Now Bald guy John Danaher said . . .
GSP beats his opponents in their domains.
I was thinking to myself . . . BULLSH*T.
Note, I’m thinking specifically
- Koscheck 2nd fight
- Hardy
- Alves
- and Fitch.
I do think GSP is a better striker than Hardy and Alves but he did not beat them at their domains. GSP’s game plan in his 2nd fight with Koscheck really didn’t involve wrestling, Koscheck’s strength. I’ve always said that his striking was nothing to brag about even after his KO victories over fighters with little to no clue about striking. GSP destroyed Jon Fitch with his striking. Not wrestling.
Yes, GSP owns Hughes in any discipline and he’ll do the exact same thing to BJ Penn without the Vaseline. I’m particularly focusing on GSP’s recent fights.
What do you think?
Does this sound like the rants of a hater or is this a legit argument.

Not saying you're a hater but it does slightly sound like the rant of one.
When the Alves and Hardy fights were on the feet, GSP landed more. Just because the fight wasn’t finished there doesn’t mean he didn’t perform better than they did. As for Koscheck, yes he clowned him on the feet at 124 but at 74, he did outgrapple him and quite frankly embarrassed him in the second round. And yes, he outgrappled Fitch as well.
Clear, sound defeats do not have to included finishes. So yeah, what Danaher said was true.
I hear what you’re saying but Danaher’s statement sounds more like an exaggeration. Some people will quickly state that he landed a clean shot against Hardy. My response . . . yawn. He grapple-f*cked Hardy for 5 rounds. Nah, I don’t think he out-grappled Fitch. He got the better of Fitch some times, but the key factor in that fight was the jab.
I’ll provide a better example:
- GSP did out-wrestle Koscheck in the their first match. Not the second.
- Nick Diaz did out strike Paul Daley. Yes, it is very cool that he finished the fight with a (T)KO.
In the end, if you’re going to beat Demian Maia at his own game, then you’re going to freaking submit him. You can hold him down, pass his guard and attempt close submissions like Jason MacDonald did but you’re not beating him at his own game. Just my 2 cents.

I’m no grappler or jujitsu player by any stretch, but even I know that grappling is just as much about positioning as it is submissions. Did he exaggerate a little bit? Perhaps. Every coach and trainer that’s been on Primetime does it. You seem to be offended by it. Breathe. It’s not that serious.
Also, I can tell you and I won’t agree on much because you used a couple of terms I can’t stand. “Grappled-fucked”? Come on, dude. Just because it wasn’t the most exciting fight in the world doesn’t mean you shouldn’t respect what happened. St. Pierre schooled Hardy in grappling. Period. Just because it was boring doesn’t mean it wasn’t impressive. And that one clean shot was more than Hardy (the “stand-up specialist”) landed. And yes, he out-grappled Fitch. Superior positioning and submission attempts matter, regardless of excitement or a finish.
You’re right, it’s not that serious. Breath taken.
I’ll kill the grapple-f*** word from my vocab. No doubt.
No argument about whether or not it was boring. I thought Hardy’s jiu-jitsu defense was very interesting, including all the avenues GSP tried to explore. Yes, it was impressive. I just don’t think GSP went to Hardy’s domain so-to-speak. Note, I don’t think Hardy’s domain is really all that great.

- Chael Sonnen made Anderson Silva stumble so did he basically beat Silva in striking or did he take him down for 5 rounds?
- Did Nick Diaz take Paul Daley down and simply submit him?
- Did GSP take Thiago Alves down often? BTW, yes . . . I do think GSP is a better striker and yes, he did knock him down but did he beat Alves with striking? Nah, I don’t think so.

I'll answer your question now:
Bullet points of a hater. I kid, I kid… you’re right of course, in that GSP often takes the fight to where his opponents has been weakest. But he hasn’t lost any phase of a fight in 3 years.
by John Danaher's Hair on Apr 14, 2011 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions
Personally I think GSP is better than most of his opponents in basically all disciplines.
His striking is far more effective than Thiago Alves’ muay thai.
He proved that he can out-wrestle Koscheck, Fitch, Hughes, etc. Those points are not lost. GSP just plays it safe and keeps it moving with the belt around his waist.

Sonnen won the standup in that fight
Silva wasn’t expecting him to come out shooting, seemingly. Took him off balance.
Diaz has poor takedowns. He still tried to take Daley down and try for the submission.
I’m assuming he meant that he beat them in the particular aspect of the fight, and not so much that that was how the fight was finished or decided.
Yeah basically.

I dunno if it's a hater rant, but you are wrong
-Koscheck 2 was mostly stand up, but GSP did out wrestle him too. He beat his opponent at his own game.
-Hardy fight, fair enough. Though for the few moments that fight was standing GSP won the striking battle.
-Alves fight was 51% stand up according to fight metric. GSP beat him at his own game for the majority of the fight. Even knocked him down.
-Fitch was out wrestled too.
It’s not like GSP exclusively fights to his opponents strengths or never attacks their weakness, but there’s nothing inaccurate about what Danaher said. He out preforms his opponents in their own areas of expertise on a consistent basis.
Minus the Serra debacle, GSP has never been out struck in his career according to fightmetrc stats. If you can’t brag about that, i’m not sure what you can. He’s nothing short of a fantastic striker.
"Who are you and how the hell did you get in here?"
"I'm a locksmith... and i'm a locksmith."
GSP does sometimes beat guys "in their domain"
but usually only after he was worked them over and worn them down where he wanted to. He is certainly not like Fedor used to be where he seemingly deliberately challenged in their area of strength, although that is sometimes a great way to break someone’s will.

St. Pierre himself said so
He’s said multiple times he will attack an enemys weaknesses, because he is fighting smart. No idea what Danaher was thinking. Maybe he smoked that hair after he cut it.
To save me some time on 25% of all threads, here's the universal answer to the Fedor-debate: Fedor is the most accomplished MMA fighter ever. That is a fact. If he still is the best fighter at this point in time is up for debate.

Seriously
I want to watch Shields and GSP grapple. It would be 10x better than watching Shields stand and trade with GSP. That said I hope this fight can hit the ground but we’ll have to see.

Already been more exciting than the whole Lesnar/Velasquez series. I really thought Shields would be more boring than Velasquez but compare the two and Shields is incredibly charismatic. Still on his own hes pretty boring though but not the most boring which i previously thought.
I pray to one god......and his name is Kazushi Sakuraba.
Honestly though
Can you even theorize a more perfect fighter?
GSP has perfect discipline and complete humbleness. There is no limit to his ability to improve, and improve very very efficiently.
good 1st episode of primetime
i like penn/gsp better, but as long as jake the snake chokes out gsp thats all that matters; sorry gsp nutt huggers the belts coming back to the states!!

PLEASE tell me I’m not the only person who noticed they put creepy little octogons in everyone’s eyes.
In the clearing stands a boxer And a fighter by his trade And he carries the reminders Of ev'ry glove that layed him down Or cut him till he cried out In his anger and his shame "I am leaving, I am leaving" But the fighter still remains
thats the lighting they're using for filming reflecting off their eyes.

Imagine those lights they have set up for “picture day” at school. Now imagine those lights cranked up for moving video, and it reflecting on people’s eyes. Yes, the thing is usually in the shape of an octagon or some sort of figure, no, it’s not because the UFC uses an octagon…that’s silly.
