Michael McDonald Meets Nick Pace at UFC 133 in Philadelphia

Photo

The UFC announced an exciting bantamweight match-up this morning between Michael McDonald and Nick Pace, slated for the UFC 133 card in Philadelphia on August 6th:

"Coming off an incredible Fight Of The Night win, top prospect Michael McDonald returns to the Octagon to face another exciting up-and-comer, Nick Pace, as they have verbally agreed to face each other in a bantamweight bout at UFC 133," said UFC President Dana White.

McDonald and Pace were originally supposed to meet at UFC Fight Night 24 in Seattle last month, but an injury suffered by Pace led to Edwin Figueroa stepping in against McDonald, and a subsequent Fight of the Night-award winning performance by both men.  Pace, a training partner of Bellator fighter Lyman Good at the Tiger Schulman Academy in New York City, hasn't fought since his UFC debut at the TUF 12 Finale in December where he sunk in his unique "Pace Choke" on Will Campuzano for a submission victory.

Michael "Mayday" McDonald (12-1)
Win Edwin Figueroa - unanimous decision - UFN 24
Win Clint Godfrey - submission (armbar) - WEC 52
Win Cole Escovedo - KO (punches) - TPF 5
Nick Pace (6-1)
Win Will Campuzano - submission ("Pace choke") - TUF 12 Finale
Loss Demetrious Johnson - unanimous decision - WEC 51
Win Steve DeAngelis - submission (d'arce choke) - ROC 30

i like when they do this with young guys

mcdonald needs to figure his cardio out for 3 round fights, especially in the bw division where a short gas tank will get you killed

give him the fight he was supposed to have and let him get some more cage time to develop. kids got a bright future

Pace has no chance.

Can’t wait for his BJJ to get hyped up as unstoppable because he pulled off a cool looking sub a la Hazelett.

Pace has put together a quite nice looking highlight-reel with flying knee knockouts and chokes (pace choke, d’arce choke and rear naked choke). I like watching him fight

McDonald by KO

Pace can’t take him standing and McDonald is good enough to escape whatever Pace can throw at him on the ground.

Michael McDonald has some hype around him as a must-see prospect. So far, he has performed well. I think that he is someone to watch out for.

I LOVE THIS!

I’ve been watching McDonald ever since I discovered him at my local MMA gym. I no longer train, but before signing up I remember looking up the fight team and he was the standout. At the time he wasn’t even in the WEC yet.

As for those saying he needs better cardio I agree. Most of his wins are 1st round finishes. But it kinda shows that he’s not winning on athletic gifts alone, his technique has brought him this far.

Again, I love that I have a local fighter to support in the big leagues. He’s from Modesto, but trains in my hometown. 209 representing.
