Thought he won that Hathaway fight too.
Bummer. Another VA fighter bites the dust. Least we’ve still got Mackens and…Amir. Eugh.

Clearly one of the better fights on the show...
…and clearly not at UFC level.
It would be great if TUF actually went after top talent. They consistently pass on big names (most recently, Andre Galvao on TUF 13).
I’d rather have prospects signed immediately to UFC contracts than put on a dumb reality show. I really don’t know why people still complain about this. The show is just an hour long commercial for the UFC. It’s not what it used to be and I dont to see it return to that. It doesn’t work in MMA today like it did when the sport was “new”

Agreed
with options like Bellator and SF (for now) there’s no incentive for the top prospects to go the TUF route anymore. This is one of the major reasons the whole show and format needs to be revamped.
Conducting an experiment on knocking people out in particular ways would be unethical.
I agree and disagree.
I think prospects still are all about tuf (example: Zac Cummings, Andre Galvo, and Karl Amoussou all trying out this season).
I think if I were a prospect, and my options were getting on TUF and getting legit, widespread national exposure vs. going on bellator and fighting against relative unknown fighters, on a much smaller stage.. I pick TUF everytime.
But the UFC knows they would have a lot to lose if they put a true prosect (ie: Jon Jones, Cain Velasquez) on the show and they lose some BS, boring decision.
But top prospects don’t end up on TUF, they get into the UFC on their own. It’s like any reality TV show, they push the contestants as being the best undiscovered prospects in MMA/best unknown singers/dancers/whatever, but the reality is that they are the best that weren’t good enough to just be given a contract outright.
Otherwise, Jon Jones, Pettis, Cain, Olivera and any other number of young fighters would have come in through TUF rather than signed to the UFC outright.
You're absolutely right,
that is what TUF has turned into. Originally, it really was about giving top prospects exposure. Think of how many TUF 1 & 2 guys are still fighting and doing well in the UFC. Think of how many have won and/ or contended for titles.
Now, do you see any of the guys from the last few TUF seasons being title challengers? I don’t. Outright refusing talented guys like Galvao, Cummings, Amoussou, et al… it’s just asinine.

Yeah, and who knows? Maybe they’ll get lucky and find a guy. At the very least, someone like Court McGee has a cool story and is fun to watch.
And then God created Saturn ... and he liked it, so he put a ring on it.

Combine the dwindling ratings and the fact that TUF alum are generally becoming less and less relevant and hopefully Zuffa’s hand will be forced in reinventing/reinvigorating the format.

scrap the format altogether, introduce a tournament of sorts and have coaches represent each fighter from their fight club
that would be f’in awesome.

Truth. The shows pretty stupid. Fuck it, just pay random fools to fight, film it and show it weekly. Throw the UFC name on it and rake in advertising cash.

the format worked for awhile
The problem is, MMA and UFC grew, but the shows format remained the same, hasn’t evolved with the times at all.
IFL would be an extreme example of what the show could be, however it can be done in a much smaller format at first.
It will also be a great way for Gyms across the states to showcase their talent.
The stars of the shows would be the gyms themselves, the finale can be a fight between the two finalist contenders, and if possible a bout between the gym’s top talent at the time in their respective weight classes, what more can u ask for.
What a 'savage' cut
Really, just savage. I always remember the backflip off the cage this dude did after he won his first fight…

Watched the fight via bootleg site
I think an argument could be made he won the fight but it doesn’t matter. Loved his work on BE but not UFC material.

Pretty good fight today.
Honestly, it would be boring and pointless to make contenders and legit prospects fight. TUF alum should be young and raw. Some of them have made it to a decent spot, others have not. It’s fine by me that they’re not wasting our time making Andre Galvao try out for the show—I’m sure they’ll pick him up anyway.
It might sound weird
But I hate that stupid pose he does. I couldn’t bring myself to like him because of it.
Finally!
He’s just not a very good fighter, clearly not UFC level, and I was quite suprised they even brought him in after TUF in the first place. Also he was pretty annoying on the show.
If McCray just isn’t that good, what does that say about Hathaway, though? That was a very close fight, and I wouldn’t have been upset if the judges had given McCray the win.
I still haven’t been able to watch that fight, so I can’t really comment on that. Bottom line is he did lose the fight though, it was his third in a row (counting TUF finale), and again he’s simply not very good. But I agree in general that it does not reflect good on Hathaway to have a close fight with this guy.

I always thought he must have good management or a contact in the UFC because imo he sucked big time.

He had a decent story/background, too.
