That is a huge card. And they plan on doing a PPV the next month? I would say that Forza is letting the Strikeforce brand grow and might not be looking to fold it up so quickly.

I'm doubtful
but it could still be place a for women’s fights and exciting fights between non-contenders/up and comers
Yeah it is.
Damn good card. Despite all of Barnett’s failings, he’s still one of my favorite grapplers in the sport. I don’t see Rogers being able to contend with Josh on the ground, although standing he has a shot, and he will be tough to take down.

Yeah, he should have no problem subbing Rogers and I love the idea of a Barnett v Kharitonov fight. There is all kinds of awesome coming up. And it looks like Forza is behind it whole hearted.

Have fun trying to by tickets for this event.
Ticket brokers for Stub Hub will buy up all the tickets on the UFC Fight Club “Pre-Sale”.
That's right, its always Uncle Dana's fault

Who on earth are they gonna bring in to fight Carano?

There is just no way Strikeforce would allow Diego Nunes to fight Gina Carano.

Carano would have to agree to cut a little weight to fight Jardine, I think.

If they called Erin Toughil like 3 months ago
She might have been able to make weight. But I’m thinking Olsen or Budd. Nunes would blast Carano.

Erin Toughill couldn’t make 145 and she probably wouldn’t make 155 either. She just fought Ashley Sanchez at 160 lbs. over the weekend. Oh, and she also lost a decision to the 1-2 Sanchez who hasn’t fought since 2008.
On second thought, that sounds like the kind of fighter Strikeforce might be looking for.
Fight Rankings - I don't know more about MMA than you, but I'll certainly pretend that I do.
She probably wouldn’t fight Gina anyway, as they are buddies.

Fedor. Because he's cutting to LHW
Hiyoooo
So let me get this straight: the WWE has gone from the powerful "Austin 3:16" to the dominant and iconic "Can you smell what the Rock is cooking?" all the way to... (cue baby voice) "You can't see me." Oh, believe me, we all can see you. A blind-folded, sleeping, stuck in the basement, Stevie Wonder can see your monkey ass. - The Rock
Did anyone bother to tell Mo and OSP they’re fighting each other before they released the poster? Last I heard, Mo was under the assumption that he was fighting Roger Gracie and was training accordingly.

Pretty Rock N Roll Card!!!
pretty straight-forward poster but hopefully we will see a new one before the event with a little more creativity.
can’t wait for this show. should be pretty awesome. maybe an 8 on the awesome scale. but i’m pretty stingy on 9’s and 10’s.

What's wrong with it?
Not being snarky here, I just honestly can’t tell what’s wrong. Seems fine to me, but obviously this is more your area of expertise, and i’m always interested in hearing what actual graphic designers think about the fight posters.

It's fine...
but it looks boring compared to the old SF posters… This actually looks like the average UFC poster already.
I mean compare it to their last poster:

but of course, SF also have their crappy looking ones like the Hendo vs. Feijao which was one of their worst ever…

check out how it was cropped.
I’m not a fan of the design, and even if I was, it is still very poorly executed…. Especially on the cropping… (check out Hendo’s calves, that’s where it’s most obvious)

now that I'm seeing this Feijao mess of a poster again,
I’m really liking this current HWGP poster. haha. :)
(Again, I think it’s plain compared to Diaz vs Daley, but still pretty okay, can’t say anything bad about it design wise)
by Anton Tabuena on Apr 12, 2011 1:55 AM EDT up reply actions
Strictly from a usability/legibility standpoint...
It’s also really busy. There’s tons of text and it’s hard to focus on one thing, especially with how the bottom is all divided uP.
by mthom on Apr 11, 2011 11:53 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
When has any fight poster not been a shopped mess these days? The Pride-era posters had quite a few gems, not to mention Dream but Zuffa is steadfast with their brand. They have to dumb it down a bit. I’m assuming SF posters were done by some poorly paid glue snifiing intern who doubled as the art director.

to be fair,
none of these (except for the feijao vs. hendo) are a “shopped mess”… I just think this latest one looks pretty boring compared to the others.
by Anton Tabuena on Apr 11, 2011 11:40 PM EDT up reply actions
They should make it into legit art
Commission young artists to paint/create individualized, unique art for each event. Print just a couple hundred and only sell them at the venue.
Of course the secondary market, which is certain to exist, won’t benefit Zuffa directly, but the fact that it becomes significantly more collectible will.
Lots of rock bands do similar things. Its a cool strategy. I own a Pride 7 poster which is awesome, but those DREAM jobs, man, those are terrific.

Just about anything on the floor will be at least $400-500. You get into $150 tickets around the mezzanine level of most arenas. You can keep an eye on stub hub as the event gets closer and some of those $500 tickets will be on sale for a lot less.
OSP is getting a huge step up in competition
I’m curious to see how he does, he seems like a solid prospect.
Solid prospect
But he’s gonna get wrestlefucked to this fight. His stand up his really wild and really opens him up for getting takedown.
I wanted Roger Gracie that would’ve been sick.
The key is to hit the guy in the jaw really hard before the other guy does it to you.

hope he dominates, although Brett Rogers’ fists are like nuclear warheads
Wow. They’re throwing out all their prospects. Killed Lavar (Not young enough to be a prospect really, but someone who was starting to gain hype) by having him fight a fellow prospect, SDR, and now that SDR beat him, they have SDR fight Cormier. And then OSP has to fight Mo. They just do not want to build new stars hey?

I think they're problem is that their roster
isn’t deep enough to truly develop prospects
Conducting an experiment on knocking people out in particular ways would be unethical.
Sorry to be a grammar nazi, but it's their not they're.
And they can find people to make prospects, putting one of them in against Arlovski or Rogers would’ve worked. SDR or Cormier could beat either of Arlovski or Rogers.

Yeah. I find his fights generally entertaining and I am a fan of his, but nothing about him really stands out except that he is athletic. If the Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Division wasn’t so thin, then OSP wouldn’t be seen as a strong prospect like he is now. If OSP was in the UFC, I could see him getting as far as being a solid mid-tier Light Heavyweight, but not much farther than that. He’s solid, but not spectacular.

Geez Forrest...
… that’s a bluntly dim dismissal of OSP. Looking over his record, my impression has been that he went pro before he was ready. Quality of competition is lacking, but I guess you take the fights you’re offered. I don’t think we’ll know how good he is for a bit. That said, nothing I’ve seen makes me think that taking on Mo would be good for his career.
by Karl Hamner on Apr 12, 2011 2:46 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions
Who did better in Collegiate Wrestling-Mo or OSP?
Trick question, OSP didn’t even wrestling in college. Mo would take him down, either finish him there, or keep him there. Either way, Roger vs Mo is the match up to make.
I still do not believe that Mo / OSP has been scrapped. Why add them to a poster, release the poster and then immediately have rumors of the fight being off?
