It's a giant middle finger to the lighter weight classes that Benavidez is unaired.
Same with Assuncao/Koch. Both fights are far more relevant to their divisions than the rest of the aired prelims (Batman/Tibau? seriously?) and are likely to be exciting affairs as well but the UFC could give a shit because outside of Faber they aren’t marketable in the here and now so they put no effort into them. Pisses me off. Might as well have left the lighter weights in the WEC.

See, that's what makes no sense to me
I’m sure that’s their thought process, but how is Benavidez or Koch not marketable. Both are balls to the wall fighters.

If it's anything other than a boring decision...
I’m sure they’ll get it on the PPV broadcast.

No clue.
Nobody knows who they are right now so they don’t draw eyes, but the solution to that isn’t to put them on the unaired part of the card and hope that when they fight for the belt fans will magically care about them. Spike probably has a part in deciding their fights so I’m less irritated about those but there is no goddamn reason Almeida/Pyle and Batman/Tibau (two fights that aren’t just irrelevant but have a good chance of being ugly as well) should be on Facebook while Benavidez and Koch toil in obscurity. Fuck that.

Benavidez
Has lost title fights twice. He may or may not ever be relevant again. Unless the title changes hands they have no reason to push him.
But given the number of fights likely to be finished on this card assuming it’s not 3 rounds, I think we’ll get to see Benavidez.
Benavidez only lost one title fight.

1. What SS said. 2. His last fight with Cruz was incredibly close. There’s this perception that all of the champions are this untouchable force, but that’s not really the case with Cruz. He’s really good, but there’s plenty of guys in the division that could give him fits.

yes it's really dissapointing
I’m missing WEC so bad, I mean Almeida can’t be more boring and he’s on facebook and Joe Benavidez, probably te strongest and nicest little guy in his division buried in the undercard, what a shame
Soo happy i’m not working Saturday. This is a fantastic card. Really excited for Sato/Petrosyan at Okatagon too

Ricardo Almeida vs Pyle over Benavidez is some panthenon level bullshit
Hell, Luiz Cane/Elliot Marshall or Barbosa/Njokuani is also bullshit. But maybe I’m wrong. Why would I want to see the number 2 ranked BW over a few journeymen/faile? prospects.

Yeah, I mean, I’m definitely hesitant to pick him. But at the same time, he’s not really fought the best of the best at lightweight. His second best opponent in the UFC is probably Bocek, who I thought won that fight. The best opponent he faced was Maynard, who wrestlefucked a decision out of him (I assume, going by the result; I can’t remember the fight); and wrestling just happens to be Shalorus’ greatest advantage.
I think it’s dependent on if Shalorus decides to play it smart or not.

He doesn’t have better top control than Maynard, though, and Maynard wanted nothing to do with Miller on the mat. He took him down once, in the third after spending 12 minutes battering Miller and it almost cost him his knee within second of the takedown.

Four and a half faps up for this card.
Five if the Facebook and Spike fights were reversed.
Tatum: I think he's a good man. I like him. I got nothing against him, but I'm definitely gonna make orphans of his children.
Why should every single WEC fighter be entitled to air time? I'm sick of this argument.
Mike Pyle just demolished John Hathaway on a main card of a numbered event and is ranked as a top 20 WW. He deserves to be on some media platform. Kurt Pellegrino was about two seconds away from KOing G-Sot after getting dominated. He’s also a very entertaining and longstanding LW. He deserves the broadcast time.
This whole notion that Ian Loveland (1 dark UFC fight), Raphael Assuncao (last 2 WEC fights on the dark prelims), and Eric Koch (1 career WEC main card showing), being on the dark part of the card is a travesty is overstated. Now I think that given Benavidez’s recent title shot he should get on TV but we’re looking at only one of the 4 WEC guys mentioned who has ever been regularly shown on WEC broadcasts.
And besides, look at the schedule:
UFC 128 Co-Main – Faber vs. Wineland
UFC Fight Night 24 – Phan vs. Garcia II
UFC 129 Co-Main – Aldo vs. Hominick
TUF 13 Finale – Anthony Pettis in main event, Grispi vs. Roop
UFC 130 – Torres vs. Pickett (I think this might air on Spike, it’s scheduled for prelims)
UFC 131 – Florian vs. Nunes
Not to mention we just saw (through PPV or Spike or Ion or Facebook) – Grispi vs. Poirier, Torres vs. Banuelos, Cerrone vs. Kelly, Mendes vs. Omigawa, Kid vs. Mighty Mouse, Hominick vs. Roop, Bowles vs. Page, Stevenson vs. Castillo, Tavares vs. Roller (on delay).
So enough of the bitching. By my count that’s 20 WEC guys from January 1st to UFC 131 who have either been shown on whatever broadcast or will be shown on TV/Online.
The notion that mildly recognizable UFC gatekeepers were going to take a backseat to 135 lbs guys only hardcores have heard of is laughable.

Mildly recognizable UFC gatekeepers don't take precedence over the number 2 fighter in any other weight class.
Why the fuck should that be the case for 135/145?

You don’t have a popular opinion, but I do agree with it. I also think that it is just that those two fights just so happen to be on one of the most top-to-bottom stacked cards of the year. The thing with Benavidez is that while exciting and highly ranked in his division, he has lost twice to Cruz and his training partner Urijah Faber is now in his weight division. I also don’t think that it’s simply that they’re Bantamweights and Featherweights and that’s why they are stuck in the unaired prelims, and I feel that it is one part that it’s such a stacked card, and the other being just lack of name recognition. Also, Benavidez simply has a lot going against him as far as Title prospects. For a prospect like Koch, it’s very common for prospects to be on the undercard, and his opponent Assuncao is just in the mid-tier of the division right now. In the instances of these two fights, I understand the reasoning behind putting them on the undercard, and it is not just because they are Featherweights and Bantamweights.
Check out the C&D Channel on YouTube for MMA reviews, predictions, analysis, and other MMA related content.
Well said. Assuncao is mid-tier and his last win was against a guy currently in Titan FC. I've been holding this one in
But after seemingly the 5th straight card of “Why the hell is this fight being aired and not [WEC guy]”? I had enough.
It’s like everyone pretends the WEC didn’t do the same thing and even worse. Mike Brown got a title shot even though his fight was on the preliminary card.
Benavidez aside I think the UFC has aired/will have aired every prospect or long-time contender the WEC has had and the latest fight announcement is 131 in JUNE. Grispi, Hominick, Mendes, etc. have gotten air time. Leonard Garcia is stlil on the main card. Mike Brown is buried in the prelims where frankly he belongs at this stage in his career. Their poster-boy is co-main event next week.
What more do you want to bitch about?

Here's a better question
Why stack a card like this so highly that the second best BW can’t get air time, and neither can a very exciting prospect like Koch when the last main card featured Kyle Noke vs Chris Camozzi?

With Koch, it is simply not surprising to stick a prospect in the prelims. I can name prospects like Daniel Roberts, Claude Patrick, Karlos Vemola, Jon Madsen, and just many other prospects that were in the prelims. We here on Bloodyelbow might know who Koch is, but the fact is that many others don’t. Also, while I like Koch, his strength of competition doesn’t exactly warrant a higher spot on the card.

It's pretty bullshit Miguel Torres gets his two fights in good spots on television..
while the man who completely whooped his ass is being flushed away on the unaired portion of the card.
But, I expect Benavidez’ fight to be aired anyway, since he finishes all his fights quickly and in exciting fashion. Damn shame we don’t get to see it live.

Yeah
he was released for being boring. Unfortunately, he hasnt done much since then to change that perception. To his defense, they fed him wrestlers, who were not really willing to engage. This is a big change for him and a chance to put in an exciting fight, win or lose. Hopefully he will regain some of his pre-TUF form and mix it up.
This card is deceptively stacked, especially the prelims.
Akiyama vs. Marquardt is going to be an embarrassment for Akiyama
Miller is going to school Shalorus who will just headhunt with sloppy punches
Schaub will make Cro Cop retire
but the rest of the card under that is solid as hell.
