Olav

The UFC has signed heavyweight grappling ace, Jon Olav Einemo (7-1), according to MMA Fighting. The Norwegian-born BJJ black belt currently trains out of Golden Glory in the Netherlands, and holds numerous credentials in the submission grappling world, including a gold medal at the 2003 Abu Dhabi grappling tournament, during which he handed BJJ phenom, Roger Gracie, his only Abu Dhabi loss.

haven’t heard of him, which makes this even more interesting

I don't know a thing about this guy

but his name needs to go: Jon “The Dynamo” Einamo!!!!!! Also, If I’m not mistaken Golden Glory is known for it’s strikers, which makes me think he’s fairly well-rounded.

That’s pretty dank.

Pretty weird signing. He’s fought barely, if at all, since 2006.

Super Bowl of Mixed Martial Arts!!!!

(I’m always glad to see more grappling geniuses in MMA, though.)

Just one fight since 06

That was a win last year in ofc

Wow, i am so stoked to see the return of Einemo. I never realized that it was injuries that were keeping him out of MMA for so long. It’s been a long time glad he got signed very interested in how he will do.

Can’t wait to see him in the Octagon. A smart and terrific signing. UFC HW’s haven’t seen a guy with this kind of skill in a long time.

Being Swedish

I’m sure is the main motivation for this sighing.

That’s what I was thinking. MMABay, for as useless as they are, reported that the UFC is going to Sweden in November, so this could be to support that card.

The original post

Said he was Swedish born and has since been corrected.

Despite him not being Swedish, your point still stands

It’s not hard to guess what card he’ll be making his debut on.

by simpsycho on Mar 8, 2011 12:54 AM EST up reply actions

He is a Norwegian who was born in Oslo, Norway not Sweden.

Also, he defeated Roger Gracie in 2007.

Should read

Also was defeated by Roger Gracie in 2007.

Yeah.

That’s a major reason that he was inactive for so long. He also had an intestinal problem, so he’s had a very rough go of it for the past few years. The foot problem makes it difficult for him to do standup.

I heard it was so bad he can barely set his feet to throw a proper strike.

by Rabbit915 on Mar 8, 2011 12:24 AM EST up reply actions

Thank christ he recovered. That’s nasty

by Tedd Welch on Mar 8, 2011 12:47 AM EST up reply actions

Is it something where the foot can’t take much impact and he can’t kick with it, or is his foot damaged to the point that it impacts his day-to-day life?

Poor, poor guy.

by Tedd Welch on Mar 8, 2011 12:56 AM EST up reply actions

He can basically only plant on one foot.

I don’t know how it affects him day-to-day, but I’d have to imagine it sucks pretty hard.

Yea, I think the foot thing is overblown. Obviously a horrible thing, but Cole Escovedo came back from being paralyzed. I doubt an athletic commission would let this guy fight if his foot is so damaged he can’t plant it at all.

A guy with those grappling skills + training at GG =

I should have satyed out of Cain’s strawberry patch.

by donkeypunch on Mar 8, 2011 1:33 AM EST reply actions

Lots of people who train at GG have great grappling skills. Alistair is great as is Marloes Coenen.

I don’t know much about this guy, but I’m happy to finally see a Norwegian guy in the UFC again! I will definitely be rooting for him, hope he does well.

Sherdog has him at 220, but Wikipedia has him at 240? How big is this dude? I’ve read speculation that he should fight at 205. He certainly doesn’t look huge to my untrained eye.

by Tag01 on Mar 8, 2011 10:26 AM EST reply actions

He's 6' 6

And not exactly built like Diabate. I can’t see him make 205.
