Why is Melvin even bothering to fight in Strikeforce if he’s only getting 10k? Surely he could be getting higher paying gigs in Europe or Asia.
"an excellent example of why most MMA "journalism" is a joke. Pseudonyms like "toxic" and shitty writing like that dopey article"--- Joe Rogan.
European (or maybe all foreigners?) always seem to have low reported salary numbers
either they don’t value foreign fighter much or they pay them off the books for tax purposes.
I have no idea really. But it is a common trend it seems with Strikeforce.

It is common to pay European fighters a large chunk of their salary through their camp as mikedh said for tax purposes.

why do people take these numbers seriously?
by Phildo on Mar 7, 2011 4:26 PM EST up reply actions 1 recs
Cause they are on the net,
and if it’s on the net, it must be true.
But isn’t getting personally enraged about fighter’s not making enough money because a athletic commission payout report says so part of the whole internet MMA experience? I mean sure they athletic commission reports are just partial information but where’s the fun of not taking the numbers as a personal affront and ranting online about them?
Wow, Former champ made 26K and Coenen made 10K ……
Hendo got paid very well tho, but Coenen needs to complain about her payday..
please explain…

The joke he’s making is that she doesn’t bring in any viewers, so she’s getting paid fairly. Honestly, women’s MMA is so shallow that I think she’s getting paid entirely fairly.

Maybe it’s the European tax thing mentioned above and elsewhere, but if we’re going to get fired up about these numbers, then I’m fired up and bothered that Coenen got half as much as Billy Evangelista. She’s in the co-main slot, is the champ, got some promo and won, while he’s making a new maincard appearance and lost in a fight that doesn’t put him or Masvidal anywhere in particular.

In all honesty, that was a good fight. Women’s mma usually is entertaining, there just aren’t enough fighters. I was extremely impressed with Carmouche

She should only complain
if there is some other MMA promotion out there paying women more than 10k to fight. I doubt it though.
Dude....
If you are ont he uncard in Strikeforce, and you get $1500, that barely pays for your plane ticket, dinner, and hotel. So you pretty much payed someone to woop your @ss if you lose
I thought..
that they(strikeforce) paid for the plane ticket/hotel and those things
I doubt they pay for the undercard guys travel/hotel
because they are almost always local. The pay sucks, but for guys at their level MMA very much is a “pay to play” type of gig.
wtf
is with tim kennedy’s pay? Is there some reason hes getting paid more than current women’s champ and former lhw champ?
Because he is easy to promote and brings eyeballs
He lets Strikeforce cut to some Colonels in unifom ringside and talk about how great the military is. Also he’s good on a microphone.

How are you liking that?
Compared to Cell Tech hardcore or NoXplode
"I'll rock your body with big nasty hooks!"
It works
But if you want size, just drink a gallon of milk a day.
I guarantee you will get bigger. Not fatter either(if you’re working hard). Just bigger.
"I'll rock your body with big nasty hooks!"
Yeah I go through about a gallon every two days, mixing it with protein shakes. The people at Walgreens probably think I am getting high on it or something
You probably don't need the extra protein then
150-300 grams is enough for anyone.
Its the calories and the type of aminos in milk that put the weight on. If you’re not getting at least 3,500 calories a day while you train hard, you won’t gain any weight.
Beef(or buffalo) protein is much better than any protein drink when it comes to building muscle. Chicken breasts will also be your best friend.
Its really important to eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies. Brocolli is a super food. Lots of b vitamins, magnesium, potassium, iron, phosphorus, zinc and tons of vitamin C. Also a good source of fiber and protein.
Sweet potatoes are another super food.
Snack all day. Jerky and nuts.
Keep your reps low(8-12).
Work large muscle groups together(deadlift, bench press, barbell curl, squat).
Get lots of rest. Lots of rest. That means you gotta sleep welland listen to your body. If you’re tired or hurt, rest. You grow during the resting phase anyway. You’ll only hurt yourself by pushing too much.
"I'll rock your body with big nasty hooks!"
Its good, too
But its high in cholesterol and too expensive for a lot of people.
"I'll rock your body with big nasty hooks!"
Its high in omega-3, you can grab tuna and its 23 grams of protein per can and doesn’t really fill you up. Good snack and not AS high in cholesterol. But everyone is different as far as what routine/diet works for them. I eat a couple cans a day though.

Oh
I thought you meant deep water fish like cod and halibut.
Tuna is awesome. Sardines and mackerel too. Most people just won’t eat it.

Nah
It’s a nitric oxide product. It is for increase and sustained “pump”. N.O. Products work very well for me. They make me look a lot more big. There is a new product coming out from the makers of Jack-3d, it’s called Yok-3d. It’s a N.O. Pump pill too. Beta testers are raving about how well it works and how big u get on it. Some places on the net are taking pre-orders for it but most are sold out. If you are looking for size I would definately give Nitric Oxide products a try!

Definitely
Cell Tech hardcore pro series, helped me gain 12 pounds of lean mass in a month.
"I'll rock your body with big nasty hooks!"
I put on 14 lbs solid muscle with Epi-max, phenom amped pre work-out, and 200g of whey a day. It’s been 3 weeks since I stopped the Epi and haven’t lost any muscle. I ran the stuff by my Dr. before I started taking it and he said it was ok. I had a blood draw done at the end of the 4 weeks and everything checked out A-OK. I’d highly recommend the Epi!
Just Breed!
Be careful with those nitric oxide products they’re not for everyone, they work until you get used to the caffeine if you work out every day then it just causes nausea and headaches. If you don’t have a sensitive stomach or take in any other caffeine they’re good pre-workout energy.
by mikeI981j on Mar 7, 2011 4:31 PM EST up reply actions 1 recs
Very true
The only one I would recommend would be cell tech hardcore pro series.
It doesn’t have caffeine and is a lot more than just a NO2 product.
"I'll rock your body with big nasty hooks!"
I used super pump250 and the first day I took it I thought it was literally a miracle supplement ,the energy it gave me was ridiculous it was like crack. But a few days later it just gave me an upset stomach, and I got a little nausea and ended waiting a while for it to wear off so I could work out lol.
N.O. Fury pills have no caffeine. The powder form of it does however. I don’t know why.
Be a man, not a child-Phil Anselmo
by ANance on Mar 7, 2011 4:47 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Caffeine in itself is a hemodilator
Which is essentially the purpose of NO2, so I imagine it helps it work faster/better.
"I'll rock your body with big nasty hooks!"
I was sticking to an energy drink like a monster before working out, because its hard to find the motivation to workout everyday but they’re pretty bad for you. When i’m taking in caffeine I can’t stay asleep which ruins the whole recovery process so I quit caffeine all together. Its a bit harder to workout but once you get going you’re fine.
BTW any other advice for putting on mass would be helpful
Calories IN must be higher than calories OUT,
that’s it. simple.
the body is really complex, but when it comes to weight gain/loss it actually just follows that simple rule.
Sounds like Springfield's got a discipline problem.
- Maybe that's why we beat them at football nearly half the time.
I love it man.
I mix it in with my pre-workout shake about 30 min before workout. I don’t take it every day though, just when I need a boost. I’m pretty sensitive to what I can take cuz I have anxiety, but this doesn’t give me jitters at all. My next step is the Dolce Diet. I’m 5’7" 193 today, and I need to make 155 in June. I plan on doing some Fanposts with pics to show the results of the cut. Wish me luck!
Be a man, not a child-Phil Anselmo
by ANance on Mar 7, 2011 2:15 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Cool
I’ve been hearing good things. I hate the shakes.
You can do it for sure. What’s your body fat at?
For every 3,500 calories you burn(don’t eat) you lose one pound. Do you have a program designed?
If you don’t, just create three periods on you calender between now and June.
38lbs would be 9lbs a month with a 10lb weight cut. Very doable.
If you just restrict your diet down to 2,000 or 1,500 calories, while training, the weight will come off quickly. About 2 pounds a week is healthy as long as you maintain proper nutrition.
Looking forward to the update. Good luck.
"I'll rock your body with big nasty hooks!"
I have not measured body fat yet, although i still have plenty to lose. I carry most of it in my mid-section, and thighs. About 10 months ago I started lifting and was a fat ass at 215lbs. Through diet and hard work I got down to 178lbs. about 2 months ago. Once I got there I started eating tons of protien and lifting heavy and got up to around 193. Now that I have a solid frame I just need to lose the rest of the fat. Im hoping i don’t lose all the muscle i gained, in the cut. We shall see i guess.
Be a man, not a child-Phil Anselmo
by ANance on Mar 7, 2011 3:30 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
If you were a solid(not ripped) 193
At 165, you should still have the most of muscle you gained. Even if you ‘lose’ some muscle, it will swell right back up when you begin eating a lot again.
Its all about how you do it.
The method I suggested would be a good way to get to an ideal lean weight. You can keep your protein intake really high while keeping your calories low.
Basically, get 2/3 of your calories from fruits and veggies(especially broccoli and spinach), the remaining third from protein. Very low sugar, very low fat.
Its important that you continue heavy lifting and intense training. It will insure you lose they weight and keep your strength. You may find that at 165-170 you are as muscular, if not more muscular than you are now.

That's fine,
but it’s becoming obvious why SF is having trouble building the bench of prospects they need to grow sustainably. I’ve seen complaints levied against the UFC for under-compensating their B-list in favor of fan faves of yesteryear ala Forrest Griffin . But wow, these guys are essentially fighting pro-bono. It’s hard when a simple list of reported fighter payouts for a recent event feels like bad press.
by Charlie Custer on Mar 7, 2011 2:12 PM EST up reply actions
This is so ignorant. The UFC actually pays their undercard fighters an exorbinant amount relative to demand.
by Jonathan Snowden on Mar 7, 2011 2:59 PM EST up reply actions
Right.
But I’ve read complaints that “fill-in-the-blank” UFC undercard fighter is being paid peanuts. Apparently this is not the case.
My point is that emerging fighters will look at what SF unknowns are getting paid with some chagrin.
by Charlie Custer on Mar 7, 2011 3:21 PM EST up reply actions
their undercards are entirely different
Strikeforce puts local guys on the show to help try and sell tickets to the local area and UFC puts guys with extensive contracts on their undercard. The guys making 1.5k/1.5k are not guys getting a shot in the UFC anytime soon.
If Kennedy, Masvidal, and Evangalista were all in the UFC. They would be on undercards making less. While they are worth far more to a promotion like Strikeforce.
SF is smart with their money, that's why they make a healthy profit
Overpaying people like Affliction will only get you out of business
That is nuts!
I know he was the only draw really, but to make 25% more then the entire card combined means one of two things.
1. SF doesnt pay their fighters SHIT!
2. SF pays some fights way to fucking much.

They pay their fighters pretty damn well. Evangelista got $20k and Masvidal got $30k. That’s not really underpaying people. I know that people are mad about the women’s pay. But…I’m sorry, women’s MMA is not doing anything to draw in viewers and doesn’t have enough established fighters to really dump a ton of money into them when the market doesn’t demand it.
Henderson was a huge signing for them and they agreed to pay what he wanted. Given the fee Showtime pays to have the fights aired and Henderson being a guy who can get viewers, that seems to be a pretty fair number. Maybe a little high but i’m not going to bitch about Dan Henderson making good money after being a guy who has fought his ass off for YEARS.

I don't really see a huge problem with this
Yah, the women got low pay, but it’s not like anywhere else is paying women a bunch for MMA.
Cavalcante got probably what he would have gotten in the UFC for losing and Kennedy, Masvidal, and Evangelista certainly made more than they would have if they were in the UFC. I would bet they would be on undercards/tv events with 8k/8k contracts.
The only one that I was upset to see was Manhoefs pay…hope he got more than that.

She’s getting paid more in Strikeforce than anywhere else. In sports (or any profession really) you don’t pay people more than the market dictates that you pay. There aren’t other promotions that are helping jack up the amount that women can make in MMA so Strikeforce should absolutely not be paying more just because of a title.

They are on TV, thus they should all be millionaires, the evil UFC Strikeforce is making billions off the backs of fighters who they pay a pittance to. They are evil people who don’t care about their fighters and they are ruining the sport of MMA and I don’t know how to use the new BE sarcasm feature. Oooooh I am soo mad right now……………..

Under what precendent should she be getting more?
Marloes is the only non-Carano and non-cyborg female to even make it into five figures in Strikeforce (and maybe all of womens MMA as a whole).
Women’s MMA is still developing. Marloes is a veteran with years of training and was almost defeated by a girl who has been fighting for a year who only had two weeks to get ready. In a title match. That is the kind of state that womens MMA is in right now. It’s not hard to see why she is valued the way she is.
I wouldn't weep for Marloes pockets just yet
She is an articulate and attractive champion, who is bound to have additional revenue streams and endorsements, plus Holland probably has socialized medicine, so that one less expense for a cage fighter to worry about.
FWIW, I think Sarah Kaufmann took home more in her loss, but she also has socialized medicine, thanks to being Canadian.
