Former pro kickboxer Cyrille "the Snake" Diabate made it look easy against Steve Cantwell picking him apart for three rounds and taking a unanimous judges decision.
Cantwell made the fatal mistake of trying to stand with Diabate before going for the take down. Diabate did enough early damage to punish Cantwell for that. But Diabate didn't push for the finish and coasted to a decision by picking Cantwell to pieces over three rounds.
Steve Cantwell returned to UFC action for the first time since 2009 at UFC on Versus 3 to face Cyrille Diabate. Cantwell had suffered multiple injuries and at one time UFC President Dana White suggested that Cantwell had such a serious issue that he may never fight again. But tonight he was back in the Octagon standing across from the rangy striker Cyrille Diabate.
For Diabate it was a chance to rebound from losing at UFC 120. That loss was the first since he had gone on a six fight tear, including defeating Luis Cane at UFC 114.
