Danny Castillo made a statement in his UFC debut, beating former title challenger Joe Stevenson by unanimous decision over three hard fought rounds at UFC on Versus 3.
UFC veteran Stevenson opened the fight looking for his trademark guillotine choke but new comer Castillo escaped multiple attempts and landed some hard punches to take the first round. In the second Stevenson did enough to get the round on at least one judge's card but it wasn't enough. In the third round Castillo poured it on and locked in the decision.
Stevenson came into the fight on a two fight losing streak against Mac Danzig and George Sotiropolous. He trains with Greg Jackson MMA.
Castillo made his UFC debut tonight after a long career in the WEC where he went 5-2 and entered the fight on a two fight win streak. He trains at Team Alpha Male with Urijah Faber.
With the UFC trying to absorb the WEC lightweight division, there is an excellent chance that the loser will be cut from the UFC.
