To your second question, yes

And to your first, it’s a Lesnar card, they tend to be thin in “name value” below the main and co-main

In my opinion there is only 3 options.Cheick Kongo, Ben Rothwell, or Big Nog(but I think they are saving Nog for Rio).

Really those are the only options unless you want to try and shoot Mitrione or Barry(or someone in that category) up the ladder.

Pat might do some damage until Carwin gets a hold of him, but after that he is dead meat. Shane would mash him up against the fence and smash him with dirty boxing or take him down and cave in his skull with ground & pound.

Kongo or Big Nog.

But man they got some good FW fights on this card.

Herman debut, Kenny FW debut, Brock/JDS, just get Carwin vs Nogs or Kongo, add another few fights, even if Omigawa and Yahya fights end up on the prelims its still a good card.

Brock would be wise

to put on that extra weight he had for UFC 100. I feel like he hasnt looked nearly as powerful as he used. Maybe his sickness sapped him of that extra gear that allowed him to manhandle folks. But I feel the pre illness 285 lb Brock is better than the Ruffage eating 264lb Brock.

It SHOULD be a W for Carwin, and that’ll get him right back into the top tier mix of JDS, Cain & Brock. Carwin deserves a fast track to a title considering how close he came the first time.

i remember going into the cain fight when i said “gee, i don’t know guys, he looked kind of rocky against carwin” there were plenty of negative comments. i remember how hard snowded got flamed when he said that lesnar failed to impress against carwin. now all of a sudden he’s not even top ten any more. you’re only as good as your last fight.

where is black lesnar when you need him? we need some brock fanboys in here to balance things out.

You have to beat ranked opponents in mma, that’s how the rankings system works in mma whether you agree or not.

If Overeem beats Werdum, Silva, and (Barnett,Rogers,Kharitanov) he’s gonna skyrocket in the rankings.

by bigdmmafan on Mar 3, 2011 5:21 PM EST up reply actions

Overeem might be the best HW in the sport, but that doesn’t mean squat when it comes to rankings. He hasn’t beaten anyone worth a damn since moving up. His only ranked win came against Brett Rogers, who was in the top 10 for all of five minutes because Andrei Arlovski is incapable of circling out of danger.

oh, no one's saying that i guess

but statements like “brock can’t take a punch” or “brock has no stand up” kind of raise my ire a bit. brock took a lot of punches from carwin and hung on to win that fight, although the first round was pretty goddamn ugly and raised some question marks. he also smoked couture and herring on the feet, which isn’t all that shabby.

i find it intersting but not surprising that fedor isn’t in your top five. not saying he’s in mine. i really have no idea where to rank the SF heavyweights right now. looking forward to seeing overeem fight werdum and then teh winner of that take on a. silva.

by Clifford J on Mar 3, 2011 4:08 PM EST up reply actions

Regarding Brock standup

I don’t think people are accurate when they blame his ability to “take punches”. I think his chin is fine. It’s his defense that is poor. In the Carwin bout, he ducked his head and took his eyes of Carwin anticipating a counter, but it opened him up for a huge uppercut. Against Cain, he did the same thing, took his eyes off Cain and ate a brutal knee to start the barrage.

So it’s not Brock’s chin, it’s his poor technique defensively. Cuz everyone knows it’s the punches you DONT see that hurt the most. And Brock got hit with big power shots he did see coming in both the Carwin and Cain bouts that lead to him getting pounded on. Every other time Brock saw the punches, he took them fine from everyone.

As for Fedor, he just hasnt had an impressive HW win in a long time. And has no lost 2 in a row. Not top 5 for me.

SIgned TBA from SF, thats funny.

But remember this card isnt till June, its not next month so you can deal with TBA three months out.

I just wonder if it will be nogs or does he want to fight in Rio, but against who? Or will they go Kongo? or someone else.

I'll mail you a dollar if this goes 15 minutes.

Tatum: I think he's a good man. I like him. I got nothing against him, but I'm definitely gonna make orphans of his children.

Brock will win this.

Yeah I said it. Brock will TKO Junior. He’ll take him down in the first, and hold him down while he beats on him with his lunchbox fists.

Is there honestly still no word on who Carwin’s fighting? That’s out of character for the UFC.

Perhaps it is a sign they are trying to sign someone, which is usually kept pretty close to the vest.

And everybody disses SF for lack of planning?

Big difference between trying to plan a HW TOURNAMENT and ONE HW FIGHT.

Yeah, but remember, this is four months away. SF just figured out what to do with a card a month away, which has three fights scheduled currently.

any guesses on who TBA is this time?

Id say Congo, but i wonder why they wouldn’t just come out and say it.

This is off topic. But.

I’m not a betting man, but Joe Daddy is only -130 tonight. If y’all want some cash…

I hope one day TBA will be replaced

by a couple SF HWs so we never have to see TBA again in the UFC HW division.
