At Shootboxing 2011 Act 1, Sengoku veteran Shigeki Osawa met the Japanese promotion's top domestic super featherweight, Hiroaki Suzuki.

Although Osawa wasn't able to win, it's interesting to see the success he was able to find in employing his grappling skill - particularly in light of the run that Toby Imada had in the promotion's 2010 S-Cup finals last year.

Bellator fighter Toby Imada has been announced for the June 5 show for Japan's Shootboxing organization. Shootboxing is essentially a kickboxing organization, although they also allow throws and standing submissions (so the flying inverted triangle would be good to go). Imada made his Shootboxing debut last year as a late replacement in the company's prestigious S-Cup tournament. There, he pulled off a massive upset, defeating reigning champion and top 5 kickboxer Andy Souwer via decision before losing in the finals to Buakaw Por. Pramuk. Satoru Kitaoka submitted Cage Force lightweight champion Kuniyoshi Hironaka via second-round guillotine choke at Sunday's Pancrase Passion Tour show in Tokyo. After the win, the former Sengoku champ announced his retirement from Pancrase and defection from his longtime gym, PANCRASEism. Kitaoka also said that he hopes to fight on New Year's Eve, presumably at Dream parent company Fighting and Entertainment Group's annual Dynamite event. Elsewhere on the card, freestyle wrestling convert and Sengoku featherweight prospect Shigeki Osawa improved to 6-1 with a first-round TKO'ing of Masaomi Saito. Photo by GBRing.
