It always bothers me when there’s such a disparity between payouts for each fighter in a single fight. Especially when its the Main Event. There should be a bonus for young fighters like Davis moving so quickly on to such a high profile position.
Conducting an experiment on knocking people out in particular ways would be unethical.
Its called signing a contract. Every member of a sports team gets paid what they agree to in the contract. Its why bad fighters can be paid oodles of money and good fighters can get paid nothing. Fight until your contract is over then get your bread.

why should Davis get lil Nog money ? he is Phil Davis a excellent prospect future constant top 10 guy but right now he is just Phil Davis great prospect making 17 an 17 isn’t to bad considering he signed with 4 pro fights to his name

Very valid points
I don’t think he should be pulling 90k to show, but headliner shouldn’t be making 17/17 either IMO. And I do get that that is his contract and that’s cool. Just doesn’t feel right to me. Also, its not really something I think is a huge deal, just something I don’t particularly like.
Conducting an experiment on knocking people out in particular ways would be unethical.
Well for all we know Dana wrote him an extra check in the back for stepping up like he did. Lets face it just because we see these athletic commission reports it doesn’t mean we actually know what these guys are making.
Also true
We really have no idea what any of these guys annual salaries are.

Alex Caceres making more to show than The Korean Fucking Zombie is damn near criminal.

Looks like he's still on the WEC contract
Hopefully it expired after this fight. At least he got that bonus.

Foreign fighters
Their line isn’t trustworthy. That’s old hat.

Yeah
How crazy after his 0-2 Zuffa record coming into tonight!
Did you notice that he actually made $65,000 on Saturday? Without counting sponsors?

was talking about his base pay
and his first “loss” was one of the best fights of last year
And everyone knows it wasn't a real loss
That said, foreign fighters tend to have very low base salaries in the UFC, especially Japanese fighters. I’ve been told there’s some sort of arcane tax reasons for this and they don’t actually make out as poorly as you’d think. I’m also guessing that his base is a remnant of his WEC contract and will be increased drastically once he re-ups with the UFC.
I don't think it's too arcane
My understanding is if an overseas fighter fights and gets paid in the US, they pay taxes here plus their home country. If they get paid in their home country, they only pay taxes in their home country.
Say it with me, folks
Non-American fighters often have low reported totals to avoid tax liability.

Actually never heard this before
Conducting an experiment on knocking people out in particular ways would be unethical.
Happens all the time – you “announce” their pay as one number and give them another (it’s actually quite common for foreign gyms/camps to be paid instead of directly paying the fighter).

Yes cuz I believe after 50 or 75 K reported you get federally taxed up the ass.
I've got something to say; it better to burn out than to fade away!!!
Wandy, Hendo, Vitor and Chael; the Berlin Wall of the Middle Weight top 10. Spitting, sensitive, sandy Brits (MB) need not apply.

They are taxed at up to 30% and State I dont know but here is a link

Right
They are structured differently for tax purposes.

no. why would zuffa have any interest in paying the tax liability for someone just because they don’t live here. if you are a company (which zuffa is) and you can’t show where your money went, then you are responsible for the taxes.
I think 5k is actually all his contract calls for, since he stated in an interview that he is finally glad to be done with his old WEC contract now, so no more 5k fights.
he has gotten 2 bonuses though, 55 and 65 apiece, so its not like Zuffa hasn’t given him any bread
by TheBiggertheyare... on Mar 28, 2011 8:47 PM EDT up reply actions
When did he get a 65k bonus? I doubt he got a bonus for being KO’ed by Roop, and his FOTN bonus for his first fight with Garcia surely wasn’t 65k, but more like the standard 10k WEC gave out, no?
That fight was on the PPV card they did, so I’m guessing bonuses were bigger than ususal that time.

i wish we actually saw the real paydays
backroom bonuses, sponsers, and how much of the salary goes to camps, managers, agents etc

People have been getting worked up over these numbers for years now but even fighters have said they aren’t actually what they are making. It would be great if we knew exactly what they were making but it would also be great if more people finally came to understand that we don’t really have a clue.
It is intentionally kept vague for a reason – less actual money is paid out that way, and guys go out of their way to curry favor with Dollar White.

I don’t understand why people bitch about these salaries. From my comment above:
Its called signing a contract. Every member of a sports team gets paid what they agree to in the contract. Its why bad fighters can be paid oodles of money and good fighters can get paid nothing. Fight until your contract is over then get your bread.
Should Chan Sung Jung be getting paid more than 5k/5k? Yeah. And he will once the contract he signed for 5k/5k is up.

There are major problems
in Contractarianism. For example, many people are forced to sign contracts they don’t want to because they are poor.
Not to mention that the law can define who can and cannot enter a contract.

All he needs to do is perform, like he did, and Zuffa will take care of him, all there is to it.
Why should they support a sub par fighter?

Since he fought for the title, I was thinking Dan Hardy was getting paid more than 25k…seems a little low
Seeing his last two performances, it seems a little high
by Horselover Fat on Mar 29, 2011 8:47 AM EDT up reply actions
Well compare to Rumble’s 20k pay… Hardy has received a lot more marketing push from the UFC being in a title fight, etc. You’d think that his salary would match that. Look at Koscheck, he makes around 75k in base pay… Not saying Hardy should make as much, of course not, but it easily could’ve been closer to 50k.
Yeah I know, I wasn’t really serious in saying he’s overpayed. Just a little play on words from the previous post. He’s fairly popular and I’m almost never going to complain about someone getting payed too much. Well, except James Toney..

how can nogueira have a better contract than rich franklin? that’s crazy. rich has been a total company man his entire career and always puts on good fights, but he only makes $75,000/fight.
Are you sure about that?
Serious question. I would be surprised if Rich got a piece of PPV, but stranger things have happened.

Glad Jung, Michael McDonald and Edwin Figueroa
Got some of the fight night bonuses…they put on great performances and considering their pay, it’s nice to see them get the bonuses.
In situations like these I always flashback to Pat Barry getting the Fight of the Night and Knockout of the Night bonus at UFC 104.

if you get paid a low salary
work your ass off. get a promotion, a degree, a win, a fotn/sotn, etc. nothing surprising about working your way up. many stars in all sports were once rookies making the league minimum. with that said, glad to see guys like kz deserve that raise
Curious what the UFC league minimum is?
by George BLACKenschmidt on Mar 28, 2011 10:56 PM EDT up reply actions
Giving that Caceres's salary is reported at 8K
I’d ballpark it around there. In fact, I remember reading (either here or on MMAPayout.com – don’t remember) that the “new” minimum salary for the UFC is somewhere between 6k-8k.
