I'm counting the UFC, Strikeforce, and Bellator as the top three.
As we all know, there are dozens of small or regional MMA promotions in North America, some of which have been putting on shows for more than a decade. Since I live in New York State, and don't get HDNet, I generally don't get to see shows from these smaller organizations. I have this set up as a poll, but I really just listed the promotions I've heard of, so I hope people will suggest ones that I left out.
As the UFC further consolidates its control over big-time MMA, it seems like these smaller promotions will become more important as places for fighters to gain experience and, hopefully, make a little bit of money even if the UFC isn't interested. The UFC will employ only the top two or three hundred fighters. Everyone else will have to fight for these smaller orgs, which means it's more important than ever that they be well-run and put on quality shows.
What do you think the number four North American MMA promotion is, in terms of size, quality, or potential for growth?
