Is it bad to say that I’m completely underwhelmed by this cast? Well…I am.
Still a Beer Monster.

No I feel the same way.
I feel like we are going to end up with another mediocre winner who might make it to the middle of the pack at best in the UFC. Doesn’t seem worth a whole television series season but, in all seriousness, what the fuck do I know?
by Brandon Starr on Mar 21, 2011 8:10 PM EDT up reply actions
make no mistake
This season will be more about hyping the Lesnar vs. Dos Santos fight than establishing new stars for the UFC.
With the SF merger, future seasons of TUF could see it rebound into a venue for lesser known mid-tier guys, like the Diegos and Joe Daddys of old, but not this season.
Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?
George Carlin
Or...
if they do a TUF season with some fighters from Strikeforce to see which ones they decide to keep.
I would SSSSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO fuckin’ watch that.
It probably wouldn’t happen, though. Too many fighters would probably opt out to just leave because they would feel “disrespected” or something.
"Last time a Russian hit a brother that hard, Ivan Drago killed Apollo Creed"- Some guy on Sherdog, referencing Fedor vs Rogers
On the other hand...
It would be a fantastic opportunity for some of the fighters to introduce themselves to the UFC’s fan base and potentially gain a following. And unlike the cast members of the more recent TUF seasons, some of the upper-echelon guys from Strikeforce might actually have a chance to become relevant in their weight classes.
Unfortunately, it would never happen. But if it does, Nick Diaz needs to be in that house.

Outside of Featherweight and lighter, we are just going to get more middle of the pack fighters on TUF who win the whole thing. That’s been consistent for a while. We did get Ryan Bader as a winner and he’s in the upper-tier of his division, but for every Bader, there’s an Amir Sadollah or James Wilks who are middle of the pack fighters.
Check out the C&D Channel on YouTube for MMA reviews, predictions, analysis, and other MMA related content.
Sadollah gets so much hate on here. I don’t get it. He isn’t a world beater. But he is a technically sound kickboxer who has proven himself in the octagon. He will never be champion, but that’s OK. Not everyone can be. He can still be competitive and exciting.
Stun Gun shut him down, and then went on to continue his long string of success against Nate Diaz, so that says something. And anyone with a brain on their shoulders knows the Hendricks fight was stopped too soon. I’m not saying Hendricks ’couldn’t have finished him, but the point still stands.
I will be more than happy continuing to watch him fight on Fight Night cards and other such events.
Sadollah come in shape
And has a high volume kicking game that is fun to watch. I got no problem with him.

Amir's best win is Brad Blackburn.
They are coddling him with the easiest of easy matchups, and went so far as to sign Phil Baroni off an unimpressive loss in Strikeforce just to give the kid a win. Peter Sobotta only got a third chance because he was proven to be no threat and spoon-fed to Amir. Now they tried to give him Duane Ludwin, James Wilks, and now Demarques Jonhson? They are scraping the very bottom of the barrel to protect this kid.
Compare him to Paulo Thiago. His first three fights booked in the UFC were Koscheck, Fitch, and Alves. Alves got injured so there was a moment of respite in fighting Volkmann, but then he gets Swick (widely considered the favorite at the time), Kampmann, and Sanchez.
I don’t consider Amir to be “competitive” in the division. And I’m far from the kind of guy who says you need to be champ to be relevant. The dude is being babied through favorable matchmaking because he’s got the personality of 2006 Forrest Griffin.
"Someone is WRONG on the internet. What do you want me to do? LEAVE? Then they'll keep being wrong!"
-Randall Munroe
I see nothing wrong with the way Amir has been handled ...
After all, the guy just doesn’t have a ton of fights under his belt.
I see nothing wrong with giving him some easier fights after the Hendricks loss. He only had two pro fights at that point, it made sense to give him Baroni/Blackburn to see where he was at. After that, Stun Gun was a good test and he failed. Is he supposed to get a tougher fight after that?
I think Amir has shown he belongs in the UFC. However, I think he has also shown that he “belongs” in the lower end of the division as well. Nothing wrong with that. Not everyone is going to be a world beater. At least he is reasonably fun to watch.

I’m more making the point that TUF is producing “solid/mid-tier” winners than upper echelon fighters. I could have replaced Amir Sadollah with Mac Danzig or Kendall Grove, and the same point would be made. I am a fan of Sadollah’s, but I was simply using him as an example, not to bring him down in any way.

They only had guys like Karl Amoussou and Andre Galvao to choose from. This is the best they could do.

"Last time a Russian hit a brother that hard, Ivan Drago killed Apollo Creed"- Some guy on Sherdog, referencing Fedor vs Rogers
which is the exact reason why I never really enjoyed watching TUF.
there are tons of more talented dudes out there, that never get in the show because Spike TV thinks they don’t have the personality for the show… Fucking Galvao probably didn’t get in because his English speaking skills isn’t as great as the others.

Not enough personality is my guess
Forget that they have fought in some relatively big MMA organizations overseas, if they don’t have the charisma for tv, then they’re not going to be on TUF.

If it was Karl “The Liger” Amoussou he’d surely be on the show I tell you!

Against lesser competition, that dude is a murderer.
On the Aftermath:
“So C-Murder ate Karl’s Greek yogurt. Amoussou stared blankly for a few minutes then beat him with a pool cue.”
The guy was a narc cop in Paris, France at 22.

He's a tiny MW
He was a lot smaller than Prangley, although he was winning that fight IMO before the eye poke NC.
Kaz Nakamura had a better Judo game and held him down for a good portion of the fight. It was a good fight and worth checking out on youtube.

Good scout
The days when the UFC could persuade a proven MMA veteran like Diego Sanchez or Joe Stevenson or a blue-chip college prospect like Josh Koscheck to do the reality show are long past
I don’t know about “long past.” Roy Nelson, Brookins, Phan, were names before he got into TUF. But i agree with your larger point. Personally, I prefer unknowns.
TUF hasn’t really been a great factory for producing new marquee fighters recently.

I wish the UFC would start saving legit big time prospects for TUF
I mean, could you imagine if Jones got started on a season of TUF? Could have been great.
They put Nelson on TUF, that could have worked better if not for Nelson’s not so fan-winning personality, his body image, and the fact that that was ‘The Kimbo Show’
Alistair Overeem - StrikeForce Heavyweight Champion, K-1 2010 World Grand Prix Champion, DREAM Heavyweight Champion
June 18th, 2011:
Fabricio Werdoomsday
Game Overeem
I don’t even understand why they put Nelson on the show..It wasn’t fair for the rest of the guys really.
Roy has personality and talent, and he needed to build his name/brand with casual viewers.
All while proving himself to Dana, who put Kimbo on strictly for the ratings.

Iirc, Bones tried getting on the show but he wasn’t 21 so they just signed him.

Rader Trains at PowerMMA, 'bout 10 minutes from my house.
Pat Barry used to go over there and teach classes when he was in town. Before he was a star. Really nice guy, and a lot of nice guys in that gym who train hard. Best of luck to him.

If that's your response to a first hand account that adds information to the community
you can just fuck right off.
Thanks to the above commenter for adding to the community. Me, I can vouch for Chris Cope as being a pretty cool guy in passing, I don’t know him any better than that. He’s been very nice and friendly on a few occasions I’ve met him, and he works as hard as the coaches will push him. And they are not pleasant or polite coaches. I don’t know him real well but he’s a good guy in my book. Never knew his nickname before this story, gonna have to ask him about that sometime…
