He tapped. Big fucking deal. There was no way he was winning that fight at that point. He has a baby daughter and a wife to take care of, no use in scrambling his brains any further.

nobody’s saying he’s a punk or anything but SHOGUN tapping to strikes is a big deal!

exactamundo

Rua has been around the block more than once. If he taps it’s pretty telling of what kind of punishment JJ was putting on him. No one is questioning Rua’s character as a fighter, but it’s exactly beacuse of that JJs performance was all the more impressive. A 23 year old with 3 years of mma experience made one of the greatest LHWs of all time tap to strikes – that’s pretty crazy.

Jones stalking Shogun there

is like watching a HW go after a MW. Shogun looks like a child in comparison.

Seriously, my friend’s girlfriend kept saying that it looked like an optical illusion, like one of them was actually standing much closer to the camera than the other when they were facing each other because the size diff was so big. But no, Jones is just much, much bigger.

If you’re using this as a smear on Shogun, you might be the biggest retard on this website. Shogun took an absolute beating (a beating most LHWs could never handle) and kept on fighting with all his heart. He is a true warrior and deserves our respect.

wow. no one is doing that. stop crying…

Many people are doing that, especially on a forum I’d rather not name. Notice how I said “if”, please don’t pull the ‘stop crying’ card on me. Thanks.

“If” you insult someone instead of asking them about their intentions first, and believe it’s OK because you made it a “conditional insult”, then you are a f-ing moron. Kisses

There a bunch of people acting like pricks on this particular subject and without stating your intentions (like you should have), you come off like one of those people. No need to call me a ‘fucking moron’. xoxo

The post states that Rua tapped to strikes, that it was against Jon Jones, and that it took place at ufc 128s. You’re free to make anything out of it you want – which is the whole point of posting this – but the post itself states nothing other than objective facts, so no need to call me a retard or even hint at it.

I made a false assumption based on the actions of other people and for that, I will apologize. There are alot of butt-hurt Shogun fans like me so look at it this way, granted they read our little squabble, you won’t have to deal with them.

This loss was hard for me to watch

I had an early night ( Being in the UK ) and recorded it. Woke up to alot txt msgs telling me Shogun was destroyed. It actually took me a while to get myself together and watch it. Seriously felt like watching a family member get beaten.

Intention : Tell the truth

I am really sad to see this, I don’t like how Jones acted before the fight in comparisons to his other fights.

That being said Shogun fans were the most smug coming into the fight about how Jones couldn’t strike with Shogun for 15 seconds, not only did he do that, he made him submit from strikes. If I remember correctly tapping to strikes in any context is one of the worst things to do. But now that it’s SHOGUN the smug fans return to do damage control.

I am a huge Shogun fan, I’ll wear my shogun hoodie tomorrow, but the fact of the matter is Shogun wasn’t in that fight for any solid amount of time. Jones made him look like a child and for anyone, including myself, to diminish Jones’ performance, or give Shogun a free pass for things that no one else would get is ridiculous.

(I think the intention thingy in the header fulfilled your requirements to chime in on this subject)

Yeah, a lot of Jones fans seem to be quite respectful

in regards to Shogun’s heart and understanding of why he tapped to the strikes.

But you can’t convince me for one second that had the roles been reversed and JONES had tapped to strikes, that all of the Shogun fans wouldn’t be making the biggest deal about it and rubbing it in the faces of anyone who gave Jones a chance.

I felt a lot more animosity from the Shogun fanboys than I did from the Jones fanboys…so part of that made me very happy to see it be such a well rounded, one sided thrashing, if only to beat it into the heads of the Shogun fanboys that ‘Your guy was just bested by a superior opponent, fucking live with it’

But that said, outside of Machida and Jones, I’d root for Shogun over pretty much any LHW. I wanted him to lose to one of my favorite guys in Jones because Shogun knocked out another favorite of mine in Machida…but I’ve got no disrespect towards him, I couldn’t after he KO’d Machida, I didn’t like him for it, but he proved what he was worth to me in that fight.

I would hope that even if Shogun fanboys don’t like Jones for turning Shogun into a highlight reel, they can at least respect Jones and what he was able to do. He did just demolish the guy you had on such a high pedestal and made him tap to strikes.

I’ve never really understood this whole “If I remember correctly tapping to strikes in any context is one of the worst things to do”. Anyone on that mindset clearly has never been punched in the face before.

TBF i will only respect Jones when he fights someone his own size.

Hes only able to dominate, because he dwarfs every 205vr( Brock was able to do this with little MMA training with smaller HWs). When he goes up to his real weight class, we shall really see how good he is.

really?

lets discount the victories of every guy who is big for their weight class then.

Jon Fitch muscles people only because he is so huge etc etc

Jones makes the weight like everyone else, he can’t help it if he is tall and lanky.

DAMN YOU SHOGUN

I was rooting for Jones in this fight but I expected an in-shape shogun. And a fight that would be a striking-paloosa. But it was kinda sad, like an end of an era thing.

If that fight proved anything, it's that Jones still has no knockout power in his standup

Sure, he was flashy and he hits hard, but he couldn’t KO Shogun even though he was using him as a human punching bag for three rounds.

That said, Jones is a beast and I don’t know what kind of animal it would take to beat him.

He dropped Shogun with the body shot

and rocked him with an uppercut, too. Jones has power. Shogun just has an epic chin, and never really got hit flush on the jaw.

Jones played it safe, attacking Shogun everywhere, not just the head, and taking a step back once in a while to take a breather and reassess what to do next. Shogun is one tough customer, not many people would’ve lasted 13 minutes of that barrage of hits.

Good thing Jones doesn’t have power in his hands, uh?

by Shnak on Mar 21, 2011 8:34 AM EDT reply actions

He said Bones doesnt have one punch knockout power

Which he doesnt.

Improve his technique some more

and he would. If he could tighten up his right cross, he could knock fools out all day long.

As of right now, he overextends himself and gets a tad off balance throwing it. If he really sat down on that punch, it would be devastating and far more accurate.

WOW, Shogun got owned like a pack of cigarettes in the joint! Shogun’s ass must hurt really bad right now, because he just got r.a.p.e.d repeatedly in front of millions of people for most of 3 rounds. Shogun may very well NEVER be the same again. Hell, he even CLEARLY tapped as the fight was stopped. It would have been much better for Rua if he got KOed off a lucky punch since he could then say, “such is MMA. KOs can happen to anyone by anyone in this division”. Instead he get to review video over and over on how he got completely out-classed, out-struck and finally broken. Hopefully Rua can bounce back…

I will, however give Shogun some props for having some thick, alien super skin because it’s really just amazing that he didn’t exit the octagon in a complete bloody mess. Yeah his face looked like he got hit with a bag of rocks, but how the hell did all those punches and ELBOWS not split shogun’s face open like the 4th of July?
