Another local boy fell when New York-born Ricardo Almeida dropped a unanimous decision to Mike Pyle. This was the second fight on the Facebook portion of the broadcast.
What was the high point of the fight?
Probably when I looked over at the Butler-Pittsburgh NCAA basketball game, which was going on simultaneously. And that was some atrocious decision-making by everyone involved at the end of the game.
Where do these guys go from here?
Pyle continues a career renaissance that began at UFC 115 over Jesse Lennox. He should be in line to fight someone of Dong Hyun Kim or Paulo Thiago's stature.
Ricardo Almeida's in a weird spot. After a three-plus year layoff from fighting, he returned to the UFC in February of 2008. Since his return, he's looked impressive in only a couple of his bouts against overmatched competition. At 34 years of age and a couple of ugly losses in recent memory, one wonders if he'll press forward as a fighter.
Watch it now, later, or never?
I was more focused on the NCAA game for a reason, and it wasn't just for the implications it had on my bracket. This was a snoozer.
