Nate Marquardt showed his dominance in two aspects of MMA -- striking and wrestling -- against Dan Miller a game man who took the fight on short notice. Marquardt took a unanimous decision after battering Miller standing and earning the edge in take downs.
Dan Miller fought like he had to get the take down to start the first round. He attacked Marquardt's legs relentlessy until he put Marquardt on his back. Marquardt got back up and then slammed Miller. Miller attacked a guillotine hard but Marquardt moved to get out of it. Miller ended up trading the guillotine for guard. Marquardt landed some elbows from the top. Ref Dan Miragliotta stood them up around the one minute mark. Hard right hand followed up quickly by a hard slam from Marquardt. Miller isolated Marquardt's right arm and attacked for a kimura from guard. Marquardt got free and landed some blows from the top to end the right.
Marquardt landed some good kicks to open the second then ate a hard right hand from Miller. Marquardt scored to the body. Marquardt landed double rights, a high kick and then a knee to the face. Miller took advantage to trip Marquardt who fought to stand up but Miller threatened back control, forcing a bit of a stand off. They returned to exchanging standing. Marquardt landed a hard straight right then took Miller down. Miller then locked in the guillotine and threatened from full guard but Marquardt was able to get his head free. The elbows then rained down.
Millers corner exhorted him to go out and win the fucking fight but his body language told a different story as he sat on his stool between rounds.
Marquardt came out throwing and landing but Miller threw back and landed with some hard uppercuts. Marquardt used a lot of deceptive movements to set up his hard shots to Miller's face. Miller ate a right then shot in for a deep single leg that forced Marquardt to sprawl hard. Marquardt spun around and forced Miller to take guard. Marquardt toyed with canopener position from the top. Marquardt used his thumb to choke Miller before landing several elbows. A bloody and battered Miller desperately fought for a kimura before losing it and eating more blows. Miller then went for a triangle but it was too little too late.
