Up and coming UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub had to struggle in his bout with MMA legend Mirko Filipovic but he emphatically finished Cro Cop in the third round with a right hand. 

Schaub came out and took down the legendary striker in the first round and proceeded to batter him for much of the first round. The Croation landed an upkick that hurt Schaub at one point. Then Cro Cop got back to his feet with about a minute left. From there they traded standing elbows and punches. Cro Cop tried to throw Schaub at one point but got no leverage. 

Cro Cop tried his famous high kick in the second but didn't do a great deal of damage. Schaub then took him down in short order. Schaub landed some hard ground and pound but Mirko landed an illegal upkick that hurt Schaub but got him a warning from Referee Herb Dean. They returned to the clinch after the break and Cro Cop landed an inside uppercut. Schaub began to bleed from the nose and Cro Cop turned up the aggression. Schaub then took a huge one point deduction for hitting to the back of the head. Cro Cop fired the high kick but Schaub avoided it. Schaub landed a knee to the body then took a hard shot in return. Uppercut-elbow combination from Filipovic to end the round. 

Schaub took an accidental low blow to open the third. He took his time recovering. Cro Cop chased Schaub around the cage before they clinched and Cro Cop landed a stiff jab. Schaub then shot in and powered through a double-leg. Cro Cop fought for the sweep from the bottom then kicked Schaub off him. Cro Cop stood up briefly before Schaub exploded through another double leg. They spent a moment in Cro Cop's full guard before Schaub passed to half guard. Cro Cop landed another leg push to shove Schaub away and stood up. He landed a straight left and stalked Schaub. Cro Cop stuffed a shot from Schaub. Cro Cop threw the high kicks but Schaub blocked it. Schaub shot in and Cro Cop stuffed it and took a front head lock. Then they stood up and Schaub landed a vicious right hand that dropped Cro Cop like an engine block falling out of a 1979 Chevy. Schaub followed up with an extraneous shot to the prone Cro Cop. 

Schaub, a veteran of the Kimbo Slice season of The Ultimate Fighter and a former college football player. Filipovic has been a legend of the sport for most of the past decade but his best days are likely behind him.
