UFC 128: Shogun vs. Jones Live Results and Commentary

As with every major show, Bloody Elbow will be here to bring you live results and commentary for UFC 128: Rua vs. Jones. The live blog will start with the beginning of the Facebook stream (8 p.m. ET) continuing through the Spike TV broadcast (9 p.m. ET) and through the pay-per-view broadcast (10 p.m. ET) so make sure to make Bloody Elbow your home for this event. There are many ways to watch the event, but I'll be watching the event via the Yahoo! PPV stream.

The event is headlined by one of the most highly anticipated UFC main events ever when Jon Jones challenges Mauricio Rua for the UFC light heavyweight championship.

Gleison Tibau vs Kurt Pellegrino Round 1 They circle briefly before Tibau forces Pellegrino against the cage. They break. Pellegrino charging in behind a flurry. They close up and Tibau takes him down but Pellegrino gets right back up. Clinching again. Pellegrino with his back to the cage. The separate, Pellegrino landing. Very hard to score because of limited action. Bloody Elbow scores it 10-9 for Pellegrino but it's a coin toss. Round 2 Exchanging on the feet.  Very even, nothing major. They start exchanging in close. Pellegrino scores with a right hand. Another right hand, a third stuns Tibau! He follows up for the take down. Landing hard ground and pound is Pellegrino. Tibau huffing and puffing on the bottom. Pellegrino staying in half guard. Tibau gets full guard. Tibau is cut. Tibau stands up. They return to the feet. Bloody Elbow scores it 10-9 Pellegrino.  Round 3 Tibau comes out aggressive he has to know he's behind on the cards. Tibau with a high kick. Pellegrino keeping his distance but backing Tibau up with his footwork. Tibau lands a left. They're exchanging at distance. Pellegino shoots for a single. Gets stuffed. Tibau gets the clinch, take down straight to side control. Pellegrino trying to stand almost gives up his back. Gets away. Pellegrino shooting for the single, clinching against the fence. Tibau on one foot punching to the face of Pellegrino. Tibao with a single down into Pellegrino's half guard. Pellegrino standing up but Tibau still on his back..Pellegrino rolls for a knee at the end. Bloody Elbow scores it 10-9 Tibau for a final score of 29-28 Pellegrino. The judges could go anywhere with this extremely close fight. The judges score it 29-28 Tibau, 29-28 Pellegrino and 29-28 Gleison Tibau wins by split decision. The New Jersey crowd boos the decision against the local fighter.

Mike Pyle vs. Ricardo Almeida

Round 1 - They're dancing a little to start as Almeida acts as though he is going to shoot before eventually landing a leg kick. Leg kick in return from Pyle and Almeida misses a head kick. Almeida says there was an accidental eye poke and the ref tells him it was clean. Very slow moving fight so far. Almeida with a right but Pyle lands a nice clean uppercut. Ricardo ducks down and eats another uppercut. Pyle throws him to the ground and walks away rather than going to the ground. Almeida shoots and Pyle turns him and pushes him against the cage. Ricardo turns him but can't get anything done before Pyle scoots himself to safety. Almeida takes him down but Pyle pops up, lands a right hand and almost locks up a guillotine. A few solid right hands by Almeida chase Pyle back into the cage. The round ends and it was close but I'd give Almeida an edge.

Round 2 - Side kick to the body by Almeida and he ducks under and gets a takedown. Pyle manages to stand up without ever being in trouble but is still pressed into the cage. Almeida can't finish another takedown and Pyle lands a hard knee to the body. Right hand by Almeida and he tries for a takedown but Pyle lands on top. They're right back to standing quickly. The crowd boos the relatively slow pace of the round. Almeida pushes him into the cage again. Leg kick by Pyle. Leg kicks by Almeida. Almeida gets the better of a little punching exchange and then gets the takedown. Pyle looking to lock up a kimura from the bottom. The round ends and it was another close round for Almeida.

Round 3 - Pyle throwing a lot of leg kicks here. Almeida trying to respond but missing with his kicks. Sloppy striking exchanges which Pyle is getting the best of so far this round. Body kick by Pyle and Almeida shoots in but can't get the takedown. Pyle continues defending against Ricardo's takedowns after Mike had briefly put him on the ground. Almeida keeps pushing him into the cage. Pyle lands a few nice knees and leg kicks and this is a much better round for him but it's probably too little too late. Pyle with a late takedown and the round ends. 10-9 Pyle for a 29-28 card for Almeida in my eyes.

Anthony Njokuani vs. Edson Barboza

Round 1 - Njokuani flashing his jab out there but not landing yet. Now switches southpaw and lands a left kick to the body. Hard body kick by Barboza and a punch that briefly sends Njokuani to the mat but it looked like a slip. Now a leg kick from Njokuani but he gets hurt badly by a Barboza right hand, and another. Huge leg kick by Barboza. Nice little right uppercut that lands for Njokuani. Leg kick by Barboza. Nice flurry of punches by Njokuani and a heavy body kick in return by Barboza. Eye poke and Njokuani says he is okay to continue. Leg kick by Barboza. Very nice right hand from Njokuani and a leg kick before he gets out of the way of some shots from Barboza. 10-9 round for Barboza but Njokuani handled himself well.

Round 2 - Head kick from Njokuani is blocked. Njokuani is looking to move very fast. Right hand and a leg kick from Njokuani and they exchange leg kicks. Njokuani throwing the left hands a little more now. Body kick from Barboza blocked. Jab by Njokuani lands. Hard leg kick by Barboza. Njokuani really throwing a wide variety of strikes. Spinning kick by Barboza lands to the body. Njokuani catches a kick from Barboza and throws him to the ground landing a few strikes before letting him up and landing again. Spinning elbow from Njokuani. Leg kick to the inside by Barboza. The latter part of the round sees the action slow down a little before Barboza gets a takedown and Njokuani stands up before the round ends. 10-9 for Njokuani.

Round 3 - Front kick from Njokuani. Leg kick from Barboza. Nice few punch combo with a leg kick at the end by Njokuani. He keeps throwing the front kick and Barboza is throwing a few leg kicks. Nice overhand right by Barboza and a nice little flurry afterward. Barboza starting to be more aggressive for a little bit and then Njokuani throws a great combination and lands a huge knee to the body. Side kick by Barboza to the body. Another body kick by Barboza. Jab, body shot combo by Njokuani. Right hand by Njokuani. Knee by Njokuani and Barboza gets the takedown with 20 seconds left. HUGE shot by Barboza at the end of the round with a spinning kick and Njokuani is hurt badly but Barboza celebrates rather than try to end the fight with 5 seconds left. 10-9 Njokuani on my card gives him the fight but it's very close.

Luiz Cane vs. Eliot Marshall

Round 1- Marshall looks for the takedown right away but can't get it. Marshall is reaching for the takedowns and not finding them early. Left hand lands for Cane. Leg kick and another left hand for Cane. Hard straight right hand by Cane and Marshall goes down. Cane on top of him landing some huge shots. Punch after punch landing and Eliot tries to roll for a knee bar but can't get it and Cane continues to land bombs until the ref stops the fight. Luiz Cane wins by TKO (punches), round 1.

Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic vs. Brendan Schaub

Round 1 - Schaub is circling and flipping his left hand out. Schaub charges him and lands a few uppercuts from the clinch before circling away. Hook lands for Mirko. Schaub pushes Mirko into the cage now. Punches to the body by Schaub as a "let's go Cro Cop" chant starts. Schaub gets a "strong warning" for hitting Cro Cop in the back of the head multiple times. Mirko pushes forward to strike and Schaub takes him down. Upkick by Mirko lands. Schaub dives back in and lands a few punches. Schaub landing some big punches from the top now. Mirko manages to escape back to his feet. Schaub looks for a takedown from the clinch as Mirko tries to separate but Mirko stays upright. Schaub eats an elbow at the end of the round. 10-9 Schaub.

Round 2 - Schaub is keeping a bit too much distance and Mirko throws the high kick which is partially blocked and Schaub pushes in and gets the takedown. Big punches by Schaub and Mirko lands a big upkick while one of Schaub's knees were still down and he gets a warning for it. Mirko complains that he was getting hit in the back of the head but was told it was because he was turning his head, not intentionally. They're clinching against the cage and Schaub is working knees to the body. Small uppercut by Mirko elicits a reaction from the crowd. Nice elbow by Mirko once he pushes Brendan into the cage. Schaub is bleeding badly from his nose now. Punch to the back of the head again and Schaub loses a point for it. Mirko misses with another head kick. Right hand by Schaub. Another elbow and the round ends. 9-9 Schaub with the point deduction.

Round 3 - Low blow on a kick by Mirko and there's a break in the action for him to recover. They clinch up again and Mirko lands a few nice punches. Takedown as soon as Mirko looks to throw. Mirko trying to slap at the cut over Schaub's eye. Mirko pushes him off to standing and Schaub just takes him right back down. Mirko prevents the pass to half guard. Schaub allows him to stand back up. Left hand lands for Mirko. High kick by Mirko is blocked. Mirko stuffs the takedown and right afterward Schaub unloads with a right hand that drops Cro Cop. Schaub waits and as Herb Dean isn't in position he ends up landing another punch to Mirko before the stoppage. Brendan Schaub wins by KO (punch), round 3.

Nate Marquardt vs. Dan Miller

Round 1 - Miller with a right hand early and now Nate Clinches him up. Miller trying for a single leg and Marquardt is trying to lock in a choke but Miller defends. Miller is really pushing for the takedown. Finally after running around the ring holding Nate's leg he manages to get the takedown with Marquardt sitting up against the cage. Marquardt manages to stand up and Miller locks in a guillotine as Marquardt tries to take him down. Miller can't finish the choke and Marquardt is on top now. Miller keeps trying to work his legs up high and lands a few elbows. For some reason as they're actively working they're stood up. Nice right hand by Marquardt and he gets another takedown. Miller looks for a guillotine and now is looking to switch to a kimura. Marquardt with a few punches as the round ends. Nice round but probably 10-9 Marquardt.

Round 2 - Leg kick from Nate. Right hand, left hook combo from Marquardt and a head kick which is blocked. Right hand by Miller lands. Body shot from Marquardt. Right hand by Marquardt and a head kick that lands. Miller grabs a leg and gets the takedown but can't do anything before Marquardt stands up. Nice right hand by Miller. Marquardt lands a few more hard right hands and then gets a takedown. Miller grabs a guillotine and gets full guard. He's looking to finish but Marquardt pops his head out. A few punches from Nate and the round ends. 10-9 Marquardt.

Round 3 - Right hand by Marquardt and a head kick that grazes the face of Miller. Miller is throwing hard punches but they're just not getting there while Marquardt's strikes are landing. Right hand by Marquardt and then he stuffs a takedown attempt by Miller. Marquardt works ground and pound for the rest of the round while Miller ineffectively tries to throw his legs up for submissions. 10-9 Marquardt for the clean sweep on my card.

Jim Miller vs. Kamal Shalorus

Round 1 - They come out swinging and Miller lands a body kick. Shalorus throws a leg kick back. Hard left hand lands for Miller and Kamal tries to fire back. "USA" chant by the crowd. They're both landing punches early. Left hand by Miller and he blocks the return punch from Kamal. Miller lands again. Leg kick by Kamal. Kamal is swelling up around his eye. Kamal goes for the takedown and Miller bounces right back up. Hard leg kick by Kamal lands. Miller lands a right hand and then a knee to the head. Head kick by Miller lands hard and Kamal takes it and fires back. Combination lands for Miller and he looks for a guillotine but ends up on his back after Kamal pops his head out. They're stood up despite actively working...I don't get it, but there it is. Right hand by Miller again. Leg kick by Kamal and a left hand by Miller. 10-9 for Miller easy and I hope the judges don't fall in love with the fact that Kamal was on top after the failed guillotine.

Round 2 - They exchange a few strikes early and Miller goes for a flying triangle but can't get it and bounces back up to his feet. Leg kick by Miller lands hard. Miller with a nice single leg and transitions right to the back and locks in a body triangle. Miller landing a few punches. Miller was looking for a face lock since he couldn't get the choke. Miller keeps looking for the choke but can't get it and the round comes to an end. 10-9 Miller round again.

Round 3 - Miller is throwing hard strikes looking for the finish but Kamal is game and has a great chin. Leg kick by Kamal and an accidental groin shot by Miller gives them a brief break. Hard leg kick by Miller. Left straight by Kamal. Big upper cut by Miller and a huge knee. Kamal drops and Miller flurries with punches for the finish. Kamal's face is swollen and bloody after the ending flurry. Jim Miller wins by TKO (knee and punches), round 3.

Urijah Faber vs. Eddie Wineland

Round 1 - Wineland pushes Faber into the cage immediately. Faber shoots and almost has the takedown but Wineland manages to stay upright. Wineland manages to take the back standing and puts Urijah down but Faber gets right back up. Nice right hand by Faber. Counter left hook lands now and Faber almost gets the takedown but Wineland stuffs it. 10-9 Faber on better strikes landed, but very close.

Round 2 - Faber opening up with kicks this round. Wineland throws a combination that hits nothing but air. Head kick by Faber is blocked but the right hand follow-up lands. Faber grabs a single and sweeps the leg to get the takedown finally. Elbows by Faber are landing now. Faber with some more elbows now and he picks Wineland up from the guard and slams him back down. Faber with some hard punches and elbows. Wineland tries to scramble to his feet but Faber doesn't allow it. Slam by Faber again and a few more elbows as the round ends. 10-9 Faber.

Round 3 - Wineland keeps stomping forward and throwing punches that are coming up way too sort.Neither guy really landing anything early and Faber shoots but gets stuffed. Faber pushes him into the cage but Wineland escapes. This is, not exactly an exciting round but as I type that Faber blasts him with a pair of right hands. Wineland doesn't look steady on his feet after those land. Nice quick punches for Faber. Drop down and double leg for Faber with a little over a minute left. Elbow lands now for Faber. The round ends and it should be nothing less than a 29-28 win for Faber (I have it 30-27).

UFC Light Heavyweight Championship: Mauricio "Shogun" Rua (c) vs. Jon "Bones" Jones

Round 1 - Jones is opening up and Shogun side steps the back kick. They get locked up after a missed punch and Jones uses it for a takedown. Shogun locks up the full guard and throws up his legs for a triangle. Jones into side control. Back to half guard. Back to full guard. Elbow from Jones lands. Nice elbow again. Shogun keeps trying for sweeps but Jones is defending well. Another elbow lands. Elbows to the body by Jones. Nice shots by Jones and he gets warned for putting the thumb in the throat. Shogun manages to stand up and he eats some big punches. He's standing but he's buzzed badly. Knee by Jones lands well. Nice shots from Jones and Shogun is still hurt but he is walking foward. Shogun lands a couple punches. Shogun grabs the back when Jones tries to get a spinning elbow through and tries to grab a leg but ends up on his back. The round ends and it was a clear 10-9 Jones round.

Round 2 - Shogun misses with a wild left and gets clinched. Spinning elbow by Jones lands. Shogun is trying to stalk but he's too wide with his punches. They clinch up again but Shogun gets back out. Body punch by Jones. Jones continues landing his strikes and Shogun just can't get off. Hard leg kick by Shogun but Jones catches it and takes him down. Elbows from Jones again. Elbows to the body again from Jones. Short elbow lands hard again. Shogun tries for the sweep and eats an elbow. 10-9 Jones again.

Round 3 - Shogun tries to flurry but misses everything. Jones misses a kick and Shogun tries for a takedown from the back but slips off again and now is on his back yet again. Big shots from inside Rua's guard now by Jones. Big left hand by Jones and an elbow. Big shots by Jones and a knee to the body and Shogun gets up but a knee to the body and an uppercut drop Shogun and it's over. Jon Jones wins by TKO (knee and punch), round 3.
