UFC 128 Fight Card: Bas Rutten Predicts Jon Jones Will Defeat Shogun Rua
"At first I thought, (Jon Jones) 23 years old, maybe it's too early. But then I go, if I have to put money down I think I'd put it on (Jon Jones). And the reason I said that is, every time he fights a wrestler who supposed to be better than him, he just schools these guys and takes them down. So in my mind, I think its going to be pretty easy for him to take (Shogun Rua) down. Once it's on the ground, with (Jones) ground control, he's a very hard guy to deal with, he has unlimited energy. The first time we saw him fight, with 8 takedowns, craziest suplexes off the chart and he's only getting better now training at Greg Jacksons. I predicted it right away when I saw him fight, he's going to be the new champion. But I think he can do it. But trust me; don't get anything wrong, if Shogun lands one of those punches or knees."HT: MMAheat.com
"Greg Jackson knows (about Shogun's leg kicks). Greg Jackson has the same crazy mind as I and people are low kicking (Jon Jones) all day long. Because that's the weapon."

I'm fairly neutral on this fight with both guys
but with that said, I’m pulling for Shogun.

Bas. Finally right once!
I just don’t see this fight being close. It will end in the first round either way. Either Rua steamrolls Jones or Jones hellelbows Rua to oblivion in the first round

I see this going to at least the 3rd. Just a feeling I have.

I have no doubt in my mind but I am realistic. Rua is not god. Bones is not god. This is MMA

I wonder if Jones will move up after smashing Rua.
and yet [Rua] is going to be defeated even if acted like a jerk. It won’t matter. As Jones said, it is already done.
That’s right Johnny. This one is in the bag. Shogun Rua will be exorcised! With elbows!
[Jones] isn’t ready. He isn’t ready. HE IS READY. And he will destroy Shogun.
Jones will retire Shogun for good! You can cash that check at your bank.
I am sure when Shogun is destroyed all these Bones haters will make another excuse for Rua.
Yet now you’re realistic and both guys have a shot. You’re qualifying your pick, and that’s a bitch move after all the trash you’ve been talking.

Did I or didn't I make a promise?
Do you remember what I said I would do if Jones did not win by TKO?

Once it’s on the ground, with (Jones) ground control, he’s a very hard guy to deal with
That’s what i feel will happen IMO, once it hits the mats.
Getting into Jons’ distance is going to be very hard for Shogun i absolutely guarantee IMO. It’ll be diff from the Lyoto fight b/c i don’t see Jon leaving he head out very much when throwing strikes. So the moment Shogun rushes in with either his right hand or lead leg kick, i think he’ll be hit with a counter shot or be clinched.
But as much as ppl are saying Jon needs to look out for Shogun’s kicks and punches, which i believe are deadly. To me Jon needs to watch out for Shogun’s Muay Thai clinch especially when their jocking for position either in the center of the octogan or against the cage.
I still sticking with my guns on their fight. Jon is gonna win by TKOing Shogun. I know Shogun has never been KO’d but i just see it happening. I’ll be one of those unforeseen images of MMA.

tsk tsk tsk
Apparently Bas hasn’t got the PRIDE NEVER DIE! memo yet. Maybe Shotgun can just tattoo it across Jones’ face. Or write it out in Morse code-kicks on his skinny little chicken legs.

And he just lost so he definitely isn’t anymore.
you don’t seriously believe WEC LWs are the same caliber as the top of the UFC LWs do you?

Although Bas and I share two things, the other being our nationality, I gotta say that I hope he’s wrong. I hope that Rua stays calm, uses his movement well and chops away at those legs of Jonny boy.
Oh and about Team Jackson chopping away at Jon’s legs all day to make sure he knows how leg kicks are to be defended; I don’t think the have anyone that comes even close to the way the guys Shogun trains his low kicks with. Not even close.

Didn’t like…70% or so of all the pro-fighters predict that in the usual Sherdog-poll?
To save me some time on 25% of all threads, here's the universal answer to the Fedor-debate: Fedor is the most accomplished MMA fighter ever. That is a fact. If he still is the best fighter at this point in time is up for debate.
I think it was more. Brock was always going to be an underdog against Cain

Based on his past wins and preformances. You can’t always go by their consesus ranking IMO. Theirs a few fighters in that top 10 i feel aren’t top 10 fighters.

The X-Factor
Coming from the premise that Shotgun is the underdog,I believe his strategy should be:1- Deal effectively with elbows on the guard wether or not he’s able to scramble.
2-Lessen the impact of greco-roman throws and take-downs namely the possibility of broken shoulder or arm. These two facts are Shotguns’ major hurdles to keeping his belt.
On another note,I wonder if the velocity of Bones throws and takedowns is largely due to the fact that his opponents(mostly wrestlers) charge into him like deseparate rams!
