Yves Edwards vs. Sam Stout in the Works for UFC 131

The Thugjitsu Master Yves Edwards will face Canadian mixed martial artist and kickboxer Sam Stout at UFC 131 according to MMA Junkie:

A lightweight bout between veterans Sam Stout (and Yves Edwards (will be part of UFC 131.

Sources close to the negotiations today told MMAjunkie.com the matchup is in the process of being finalized.

Exactly what I was thinking

That TBA keeps showing up and Dana can do what ever he wants. The “legalities” can all be worked around unless it’s a case like fedor who has a contract with Showtime directly. But since every decent Strikeforce heavyweight is booked in the tourney I doubt any early moves from Strikeforce.. Unless they really want to have Arlovski bashed into Muhammad Ali oblivion.

I hear that Mitrione announced on the MMA hour that he's being targeted for 131

I’d be surprised if they matched up him and Carwin, but if he’s not fighting Carwin and an additional fight is added then this card will be even more STACKED

I like meathead's chances against Carwin

He’s much faster and hits hard, if not nearly as hard as Carwin.

I don’t know if meathead’s ready for a top 5 HW yet. I think the UFC need to build HW prospects (at least until SF is folded in). Mitrione has a good sized fan base and it seems to be growing each fight but he’s ranked 25th currently; a jump to 5 is too much too soon.

It's a seriously amazing fight.

Beautiful technique & style contrast, blazing exchanges, momentum shifts, hilariously awful takedown attempts from PT… THE WORKS!

To me, the funniest thing in the fight are the repeated takedown attempts with like 10 seconds left in the round… guys who stand for brutal, destructive striking, but try to grab some cheap points for meaningless takedowns.

Mir/ Nelson is happening. I know Rothwell was injured, but I bet he’ll be good by June. Real question is whether or not he will WANT to fight Carwin. Not a very winnable fight for Big Ben to be honest.

He looks like a kid I went to school with. He does make for some great fights though. His beatdown of Wiman was great, and he has some of the LW divisions best body shots.

Tough fight to call

I think Yves is on a resurgence and his sexperience is formidable. At the same time, Stout is younger and really tough to put away. If Yves wins this its by submission I think. Otherwise Stout will prob take the decision.
