With the news coming down that Rashad Evans is injured and Jon Jones taking his place, coupled with Anderson Silva destroying Vitor Belfort without breaking a sweat and the Silva-GSP Superfight mutters getting louder and louder, I think the best way to give everyone what they want, is putting Anderson Silva vs. Yushin Okami on at UFC 128.
Here's why:1. One of my biggest pet peeves about the UFC is promising fighters certain things that get revoked. Poor Jon Fitch must have ulcers by now. Maybe that's why he doesn't eat meat. This gives Okami his promised title shot against Silva.
2. With Evans out, the casual-fan name-value took a dive, even if we, the fans, know how incredible Bones is. So to boost ticket sales and PPV buys, Silva-Okami more than makes up for the lack of Sugar.
3. With St. Pierre fighting at 129 a mere five weeks later, it allows Silva and St. Pierre to be on equal footing with fatigue/ring rust, so that neither fighter has a too short or too long layoff.
4. Camps won't be an issue, since Okami has had four months to gameplan for Silva and Anderson has had sparring sessions against his grandmother that were more intense than his fight vs. Belfort.
5. The spectacle of Silva coming into the cage after GSP defeats Shields in Canada to shake hands on THE superfight will be tremendous. You thought the Shogun-Bones confrontation had drama? Wait til thousands of Canadiens see their idol paired up with the one man that could make him the best ever.
Sure, Anderson could lose and/or GSP could lose. But the chances are slim-to-none, and judging by their opponents, it's not going to be a brutal loss, probably a decision loss if that. The demand for GSP-Silva isn't going to wane, at least not to me and millions of other fans.
