Manhoef's chin is shot
I predict Kennedy will KO him before he even gets the chance to choke him.
Kennedy isn’t the best striker, but his grappling and clinch work are his greatest assets. Even though Manhoef has been KO’d a good amount of times, it would still be in Kennedy’s best interest to take this fight to the ground.
I won't jump off the bandwagon just because you lost.
Ohhhhh Shi-
Interesting fight, nice to see Melvin back under the SF banner

pure speculation on my part
kennedy probably wants a much more winnable fight against a higher name. rockholds a no name and a tough fucking dude to top it off so noone wants to fight him
"I have smoked weed with alot of UFC champions" - Joe Rogan
I don’t think Kennedy has the ability to pick his opponents.
Still a Beer Monster.

he has the ability to refuse a fight though
"I have smoked weed with alot of UFC champions" - Joe Rogan
but why refuse a fight against a striker he will submit 4/5 times
Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?

The thing is, Strikeforce officially announced Kennedy/Rockhold. That’s what’s so weird about this to me.
u know what i forgot about that
it does seem odd now, my theory makes sense if kennedy has negotiating power, but as beer monster pointed out he probably doesnt since hes not a big star
maybe showtime just wants to have manhoef on tv more and scrapped coker’s plans
"I have smoked weed with alot of UFC champions" - Joe Rogan
Strikeforce doesn’t do anything or announce anything without Showtime’s approval. Showtime has to approve every fight Strikeforce makes.
is that how it works?
i knew strikeforce was very depenedent on showtime and was basically run by them, but i didnt know it was that excessive

Luke Rockhold is one of those names that in the context of who the person is, makes me think theres some matrix shit or genetic engineering going on in this world. it’s too perfect.
it’s like 5 or so years ago when I heard that the University of Texas’ quarterback was named Colt McCoy, i was like “reeeaaaalllllyyyy? you expect me to believe that’s a real person?”

I'm not really seeing the congruence there
Cultural thing? I don’t get the significance of Colt McCoy, for instance.

but when Muspell's sons through the dark forest ride,

McCoy is a very southern US-associated named due to the Kentucky/West Virginia feud between the Hatfield and McCoy families. not necessarily Texas, but close enough. Colt, while being a very cowboyish southern name, is also a name for a gun, which is a often how Quarterback’s arms are described.
If you were going to build a robot to be the University of Texas QB, there are very few names other than Colt McCoy that you could consider.
Luke Rockhold is viewed as one of the prototype upcoming MMA fighters and has won most of his fights by rear naked choke.

Was there a specific fight you were hoping for?

It happens every time he reads Melvin’s full name.
Yep
I’d rather see him fight Marius or Cyborg again.

Lindland still has some name power, somehow, and had dramatically fallen off by the time Robbie took that fight. Kennedy has very little name value and is a bad mo’fo’

Neither unless he signs an extension
Even then Jacare has stated he’s not interested and I doubt Scott Coker wants another Shields situation on his hands.

Strikeforce 3/5 Columbus Card:
Feijao v Henderson [Title], Coenen v Tate [Title], Kennedy vs Manhoef, Evangelista v Masvidal, Bowling v Thornburg, Gurgel vs Combs, Riley vs Schall, Brian Rogers vs Mojo Horne

Just rumored Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos vs Tarec Saffiedine for this event.

Good call SF
I say put Lindland back in there against Rockhold as was originally intenede back in Dec. Let Rockhold get a good win and then toss him in there against Kennedy, should Kennedy win of course.
Rockhold never seems to fight. Yet they always make a point to show him flashing that Ed Burns grin of his from the seats at SF events like he’s some kind of celebrity. What the hell is going on there? I appreciate, and sometimes enjoy, the surrealistic production quality of these events, but does SF keep Rockhold around for his fighting or his looks?
Definitely his looks
That is a beautiful man.

Manhoef by armbar, Rd. 1
My thoughts are that if a grappler beat Tim Kennedy by outstriking him, the way for Manhoef to win will be by outgrappling him and submitting him.
after checking out some of melvin's fights on youtube
this guy has crappy stamina but you die if he hits you. i just watched him kill mark hunt some other guy in a k-1 fight. he beat sakuraba a real bad one pulled out from near the ropes and socked him again. i guess i fount out about him while he is on his decline.
It’s not a matter of his cardio or him being on the decline. Manhoef’s been this way for years. He’s got zero ground game and below average defense. He’s just out to murder people and half the time it blows up in his face.
by The so-called Beautiful on Feb 3, 2011 11:10 PM EST up reply actions
I’ll grant you that he has a undeveloped groundgame but his stand up defense is noy below average. Dude can take a punch but he should keep his chin tucked more when he unloads. That being said: I don’t give a fuck about Melvin’s ground game or lack off it. When Melvin get’s in the ring I want to see him unload like a Katusha-missile launcher: unleashing hell in an unbelievable quick fashion. WAR Melvin!
by basvanderwolk on Feb 4, 2011 4:19 PM EST up reply actions
Dude, check his work rate: it’s higher then any of the so-called ‘worldclass strikers’ you normally see in the UFC or SF
by basvanderwolk on Feb 4, 2011 4:21 PM EST up reply actions
I don’t like this fight. I love Melvin, but Kennedy will take him down and sub him in round one. They should match Melvin up with a fellow striker and produce fireworks, not feed him to wrestler / submission guys. They should drag Cung Le into the cage and force him to fight Manhoef..
That said, I hope Manhoef knocks Kennedy the fuck out!
