I heard the Harris decision was terrible, but…I can’t remember where I heard it now.

I was there and it was not a horrible decision at all . Harris acted gun shy the same way he did his last fight in the UFC then he ran out of the ring like a baby.

Ahh, okay. Thanks for correcting. Was just passing on something I had read.

Tony Lopez is making a name for himself

I wonder if he’ll ever make it to the big show.

I know

That doesn’t mean he can’t hang in SF.

Despite having a thin Light Heavyweight Division, I personally don’t see too much upside to Strikeforce signing Tony Lopez. He’s a good fighter, but he honestly doesn’t bring much to the table to Strikeforce. Strikeforce would do better with signing young prospects who probably wouldn’t get paid as much but have future potential than someone like Lopez, who is good but has pretty much reached his peak and is in his mid-thirties.

He's not that bad

He’s got wins over Joey Beltran and Kyle Kingsbury. His loss to Kyle was a split decision. They could do a lot worse.

HUGE heart

Plus he’s got a really fun style to watch.

In 5 years, the LHW division will be owned by fighters 6’3" and up. In fact, 6’3" may not seem very tall in a couple years.

Sooner or later the, 6’8" 240lbs super athlete will move into MMA. I’m talking Ben Wallace type bodies.
We gotta turn this

Into this

guys with those kind of tools usually go to the NFL NBA ect.

We want the loppy ones

Jon Jones couldn’t play sports like his brothers.

In the future, we can snag some bigger, better bodies.

Ben Wallace would have the worst pillowfists ever. 15 years in the NBA and he still can’t hit a slightly contested lay-up.

Goddamn great defender though.

Like I said, Lopez is a good fighter. And yes, Strikeforce could do a lot worse and has signed a lot worse. I just think that what I’ve been seeing from Strikeforce as of late, they seem to be focusing on getting either top talent (Daley, Hendo, Fedor, Werdum) or legit prospects.

Tony Lopez was such a cry baby and bad sport when Raphael Davis totally outclassed and outgrappled him a few months ago. I don’t see what he could offer to Bellator, Strikeforce, or the UFC. I think good fighters would know how to exploit his game.

Raphael Davis is no joke

by TheFilt on Feb 28, 2011 7:26 PM EST up reply actions

Oh I know he isn’t, I’m a big fan of Davis’ grappling and I’ve seen him compete in ADCC, Bellator, and a few other promotions. He’s a great nice guy and he’s my pick for winning the upcoming Bellator LHW tournament. Excellent fighter.

The point of my post was that Tony Lopez was acting like a douchebag during and after the fight towards Davis. And that Lopez seems to have such a negative attitude towards grappling that it could be his Achilles heel for the rest of his career.

I guess we can stop bitching out the UFC for cutting Harris.

His fight with Head or his last UFC fight?

I thought Harris was/is a solid prospect who could have a bright future that being said I agreed 100% with him getting the boot from the UFC.

by Shocbomb on Feb 28, 2011 4:41 PM EST up reply actions

at least he got it changed to a no decision instead of a L on his record. I would of been so so wrong if that L from that horrible robbery of a decision that was a inside job had stayed on his record

by Shocbomb on Feb 28, 2011 4:49 PM EST up reply actions

i would like to see the Harris fight. He’s got some serious skill, I wonder if he just wasn’t mentally prepared for this one…

And Lopez is good, but he has fallen short against top guys more than once. He’s creepy looking too.

bad decision? either way u’d wanna see a guy with a resume like harris finish someone without a wikipedia page

Was the Lopez/Schoonover fight at hw or lhw? Too bad for schoonover, he seemed like a decent prospect of TUF if he was ever able to get his shit together aka get back down to lhw

by Fedorable on Feb 28, 2011 9:24 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Yeah, they absolutely did the right thing

I mean he only finished all of his opponents in his 3 previous fights 2 of which he got KO of the night awards I guess you have to cut the guy after one loss
