Love that Jury is on here, he’s got a lot of potential. Ryan McGillvray is a nice addition too, he’s solid, I’d think his experience will take him pretty far. I got Shamar Bailey for the win, though.

by Tag01 on Feb 28, 2011 11:58 AM EST reply actions

Jury will get train wrecked against anyone who is decent. The problem with Jury is that if you watch most of his fights, his opponents have no real value in helping him improve. A few of the guys didn’t even know the concept of a guard.

Leland,

Were any of these guys on your radar for your prospects piece?

by Tag01 on Feb 28, 2011 2:24 PM EST up reply actions

Jury was on our radar, but after watching him kill some guy who flopped around on the ground like he was drunk and never tried to tie up Jury’s limbs as he passed guard seamlessly — I couldn’t justify ranking him when he fights such horrible opponents.

I think we discounted Bailey due to his stint with Strikeforce.

Also...

A lot of these guys weren’t on our radar because… as you know, a number of them will fight outside of the weight they have been fighting.

I don't think he's aTV type of guy

He’s an undercover narc cop in France, and from what I’ve seen, legitimately psychotic.

Just like Amoussou.

Although, it would be awesome to see a wasted Brazilian and Frenchmen babbling incoherently.

I don’t think Galvao speaks English very well, so I imagine that would have something to do with it.

It would have been nice to see him on the show though. I pretty sure he’s got ties to Blackhouse, so it would have been interesting to see him on Brock’s team.

by zorba on Feb 28, 2011 1:05 PM EST up reply actions

yeah I'm bummed Galvao didn't make the show

they’ve turned guys down before because they were too good or too experienced for the cast they were putting together.

To be fair, he hasn’t done too well in MMA. Doesn’t seem to respond well to punches.

Could have been so much better

Thanks Spike. For the sake of this show, the UFC should not re-up with them after this year. Move it to Versus or elsewhere, make it about sport. They turned down some exceptional talents this season, presumably because they don’t speak good english and/or don’t get shit faced every night.

Its I'm stoked for international TUF

I have to think that they would go with “talent” over crazy. Are they going to be peeing in each others food in the Phillipines? China? Show us the monsters who can fight, not guys clowning around.

He’s a huge sleeper here. He’s been boxing since he was 8. He has an extensive background along with a crazy training schedule of six nights a week with Judo, Muay Thai, and BJJ. Trains out of Las Vegas as well, so the standard is there for him to succeed.

Some are confirmed by the fighter himself, others were never deemed amateur or professional… but obviously if the man was paid — it’s counted as a pro bout, etc.

I was at an event way back. Well, I didn’t go there for it. I was at a fair basically where they had fights, and the promoter was literally trying to find random people around the fairgrounds. Interestingly enough, a few biker gang disagreements were settled inside the cage. Some of the most humorous “mixed martial arts” I’ve ever seen.

I know Zach Davis in passing.

He trains/teaches at another TLI Affiliate under BJJ Black Belt Mike Moses (Evolve Academy). He actually has a really interesting story. He was told that he’d never be able to fight again over a year ago after his eye was completely screwed up. After various surgeries and rehab, he was finally cleared to fight and was matched with a very good Yamasaki prospect in Diego Peclat (making his pro mma debut, although he had been tearing it up in MT and in amateur mma). Zach ended up winning that fight via 2nd round RNC. It’s good to see him get on TUF. The guy never stops working and should be good for some exciting fights.
