I have some real serious Michael Bisping rage right now. If we were on the air now, I’d have to restrain myself from dropping F-bombs every other word.

I publicly picked Bisping by TKO R2.
I’d love to call in and talk with you about how underrated he is and how public perception in the US makes people forget he’s a great fighter. But your pick against Gustafsson was so terrible, I can’t help but feel like your Bisping mancrush is a fluke. (=

Haha. I don’t know why. I don’t really think too highly of Gustafsson to begin with and thought Te-Huna could overwhelm him early. He almost did!

You're definitely right that he almost did.
I saw it going sort of how it did… just taking a bit longer for Gustafsson to catch him.
by Brent Ducharme on Feb 27, 2011 1:03 AM EST up reply actions
I don't think he was even close to dominating him.
That’s what the camp gameplanned for. Taking advantage of how Te Huna leaves space on the ground. That’s exactly what Gustafsson capitalized on. Then he used that to get up, stay up in the clinch, and then Alex took over.
Very excited about Gustafsson’s prospects. He can come back from a weakish start and win a fight. Big question answered there.
"Someone is WRONG on the internet. What do you want me to do? LEAVE? Then they'll keep being wrong!"
-Randall Munroe
Why is Te Huna getting him to the ground in the first place though? Te Huna isn’t even an imitation of an elite wrestler. If he can’t stop the shot from Te Huna, why should I believe he’s going to stop V-Mat’s shot? Brandon Vera’s? Elliot Marshall’s? Forget bringing up the elite wrestlers in the division like Davis, Rashad Evans, or Jon Jones. I just don’t see it happening.

It’s alright. 28-28 scores usually don’t happen, although I still am interested in seeing what judges scored what rounds. At least you are still better at math than Bryan Alvarez is!

Oh, This Show
I mean the pay per view, not this episode of Bloody Elbow Radio. It was up and down in terms of enjoyment. I feel the same way that Bishop does about Bisping, but I guess I can’t complain about the main event decision given how the fight turned out. Although, for the first (and maybe only) time, I was rooting for Fitch! It was more because I disliked Penn even more. What I hate about BJ the most is that sometimes it doesn’t seem like he wants to be there (see, the two Edgar fights), and that sort of thing gets my dander up. Say what you will about Jon, but I’ve never thought he has ever taken the night off in the cage.
Plus, I can’t wait until discussion gets to the Lytle fight, as I am now a big fan of Brian Ebersole. He was SO wacky and yet he was effective too, and Christ, he shaved his chest hair to an arrow pointing up to his face!
For Neil, I have to mention that Mark Hunt is now trending on Twitter; that is astounding. However, “Cindy Lauper” is, which is distressing, as of course it’s Cyndi Lauper.
I still don't feel the trends mean much for the world at large
But I must say, Hunt getting a walk-away KO was so, SO great. It would’ve been even better if I hadn’t picked ol’ Chris there to win the fight.
Yeah
Mark Hunt winning a fight in 2011 is alone a funny fact.
by Blair Russell on Feb 27, 2011 1:15 AM EST up reply actions
Yeah
I strongly feel that when you’re getting walked down by Hunt in 2011, let alone getting yourself KO’d, it’s probably time to take a little time to yourself and re-evaluate your career.
True
But at least he can still look like a jacked-up version of Mr. Kennedy… whoops, I mean Mr. Anderson.
Sorry for the pro wrestling reference, but it’s true.
by Blair Russell on Feb 27, 2011 1:19 AM EST up reply actions
Thanx
But I’ve heard other people make that comparison too.
by Blair Russell on Feb 27, 2011 1:27 AM EST up reply actions
Yeah, tell me about it
But you’ve gotta be hard and fast with news. Besides, gotta start shows on the hour or half hour, so better a little early than a little late.
Am I the only one who scored it 28-28 too? I thought Round 1 was BJ, without much argument. Round 2, I valued the takedown, dominant position, sub attempt, and broken nose by BJ over the takedown and fence control by Fitch. The 3rd round is definitely a 10-8. Penn didn’t land a punch.
28-28 sounds good to me.
It’s not a horrible score by any means.

Is “go home loser” that big of a deal? Tito Ortiz made a career out of inappropriate post-fight celebrations. It’s refreshing to not have a fun hugfest after a “grudge match”
And I just don’t see the big deal about the knee.

Although Bisping is winning fights, so I guess that’s good. Or something.
I don’t see the problem with the knee, either. It was obviously illegal, but I can’t believe that he threw it for any other reason than he was amped up and it was ill-timed. Why would he throw it knowing full well that he could get an L off of it?

Throwing that knee took a fraction of a second. It was a horrendous decision, but I can’t believe that a guy like Bisping who has such a high fight IQ would intentionally throw an illegal knee.
Either way, it’s perfect for his heel persona.

Can the commission suspend Mike for his antics. In particular the knee. That was dangerous. In my opinion, that was Wes Simpson stomping Frank Mir territory.
Does the CSAC care about an Australian athletic comission?
They’ll honor the NSAC and NJ, but I dunno about a different continent.
Wes Simpson was always one of my favorite fighters. Too bad about his fight with Bob Lashman.

I’d love nothing more than for Chael to get his shit together and wreck havoc all over “Queen Elizabeth” Bisping. Plus, I would enjoy the trash talk!
Also
Bisping will get Sonnen’d for 15 minutes and then think he was ripped off in the decision.

Melvin was always the better and more whole talent. Now he’s with a better camp and has a better trainer too. I don’t see Siver’s striking being so much different that it makes a huge difference.
And still. Dennis Siver got pretty well dominated by Pearson 11 months ago. Now Siver has magically drifted into title contention and Pearson is sitting around in the prelims killing time. Why not give Pearson some rub back by letting him beat someone he already beat once before? At least then you have the upside of a title contender the UK fans might buy into.

Re Sotiropoulos
He did have a little hype behind him, and even though I picked him to win, I wasn’t surprised when Siver won. I mean really, there aren’t that many shining stars at 155, and who has Sotiropoulos even really beat? Yeah, Pellegrino is a good fighter, but not great, and he’s probably the best name in the bunch.
Speaking off 155, I can honestly see Pearson as a contender in another year or two.

The Bonuses
Fight of the Night: Ebersole vs. Lytle, of course
Knockout: Mark Hunt (lol)
Submission: Kyle Noke
I got that from Wikipedia but I’ll presume it’s correct. I bet everyone is SHOCKED that Lytle got a bonus.
Not listening but I saw the comments and I wanted to add my two cents about Bisping/Rivera. What offended my wasn’t Bisping’s post fight or even the obviously illegal knee – and it doesn’t matter that Rivers chose to continue, if he was injured it isn’t his chose if wants to continue it’s the officials – it was Goldberg and Rogan’s lack of any comments about it post fight. Can’t take away from a fighters win by bringing up the fact that something may have seriously altered the fight. Can’t even ask the fighter that threw it if he thought it had an impact on his opponent. That was horrible and as much as I like Rogan that reminded me how he isn’t a professional commentator by any stretch. Could you imagine Al Bernstein or the HBO boxing tram brushing that aside so easily?

Brian Ebersole
This guy really entertained me. I heard on the Sherdog show that he would probably be wacky, but even I was surprised at all he did, from the chest hair arrow to coming out to Tom Petty, to the headgear, to using cartwheel-based offense… I fell in love with him. Well, maybe I shouldn’t go that far, but I so enjoyed his wackiness and yet he was effective in the fight too and showed off some nice skills (well, I thought he did; him escaping some precarious positions, for example). Of course, I wouldn’t be surprised if he loses his next two fights too, but at least on this night I enjoyed what I saw.
Awesome
If only that would have happened tonight. Still, a win’s a win.

Noke
He also made me laugh with his Motley Crue music and walking out in a gas mask that was called a “training mask”. More wackiness.
: (
Well, actually I was mistaken there. It was some other dude that came out to the Crue. Of course, Noke came out to Men At Work! How could I forget? Actually, I’ll blame it on the beers I drank tonight. My bad. I guess I’ll take my roasting from Brent and Forrest, as part of it was deserved.

Gustafsson's scrambling has improved so much
and he’ll outstrike anybody short of Rogerio, Shogun, Lyoto, and Rampage already. He’s the best prospect in the UFC besides Phil Davis, who won’t be a prospect much longer.

Also, to Brent:
Gustafsson walks around 225-230lbs. He’s fucking big.

You’re just a glass half empty kind of guy. Plenty of people who have visited Japan have won since then.

I’m just positing things that should be recognized in this public discourse. Also, we should note that even more fighters have won since November that have eaten sushi within a recent time period of their fights. JMMA never die!

Let's also remember
That the same guy that’s always yammering on about not leaving it in the hand of the judges is the same one who is bringing the judges in for the non-US shows. So yeah.

The people I was watching the fight with asked me who a few people were.
I told them Reinhardt is literally the worst fighter in the UFC in Zuffa history. Worse than Tiki. Worse than Kimbo. He’s probably worse at MMA than James Toney.

Dude, Zuffa brought Tank Abbot back after a 5-year layoff in pro wrestling. There’s no debate..

You can’t saying anything about name value when your other examples for worst fighters includes Kimbo Slice and James Toney.
