Tooooo Good!
A two hour, fly on the wall, listen to two of the smartest guys in mma. How much better does it get? Three cheers for Bas and Joe!

Fully agree with rask4p
Is there a back story as to why Bas Rutten is not employed by the ufc? There has to be a reason the ufc has not taken advantage of his talent. Any insights or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Wild guess
He probably isn’t much of a company man, nor does he “play the game.”
He might not want to commit to the UFC's schedule
Apparently that (the demands of the schedule) was the reason he left PRIDE’s commentary booth.

and so gavest away thy sword:
but when Muspell's sons through the dark forest ride,
thou, unhappy, wilt not have wherewith to fight."

but Pride required him to fly to Japan...
he wouldn’t have that problem with the UFC.

Some questionable medicine
As a doc, I felt responsibility to point out that one should NOT take the medical tips and commentary in this video to heart.
A few things in particular:
-NO ASPIRIN BEFORE FIGHTS. Bas says at one pt that he would take aspirin before a fight to “thin his blood”. While it’s true that aspirin works quickly (<30min) to help prevent clotting of blood, that’s used to prevent heart attacks and other diseases in people prone to clotting. It is NOT useful in a fight where, if anything, it puts you at greater risk of bleeding.
-NO BENEFIT TO USING REGULAR VIAGRA PILLS BEFORE FIGHT. Bas mentions use of Viagra before fights. Viagra works by increasing nitric oxide (surprisingly they got that part right) in certain blood vessels which causes them to dilate, and subsequently, fill with more blood. The two places this works are in your penis and in the tiny blood vessels in your lungs. The lungs are affected at higher doses than the normal Viagra pills used by most. That’s useful for ppl who have lung disease in which the vessels in their longs are constricted and full of fluid. NOT proven useful for avg athlete.
- EPO. Proven risky in ppl with kidney disease. It basically prompts ur body to make new blood cells which means your able to carry more oxygen to your tissues, which gives you better performance. In ppl with kidney problems there is a risk of heart attacks and other problems. And there probably is a slightly increased risk of heart related problems even in regular ppl but as far as I know thats not been 100% proven.
-DONT GIVE YOURSELF LIDOCAINE UNLESS YOU ARE TRAINED. Don’t go shooting yourself up with lidocaine unless you know what you’re doing. As Joe mentioned it is not without risk. If you shoot yourself up with too much you put yourself at risk of having erratic heart beats which can lead to serious consequences including death.
-WRAP YOUR HANDS BEFORE HITTING HEAVY BAGS AND BEFORE SPARRING

Infinitely entertaining
I’m surprised Rogan’s studio didn’t blow up from all the awesomeness packed into that enclosed space.
This was funny, but...
but why isnt anyone up in arms about Bas’s use of the word faggot? Everyone jumps on someone now because the use that word regardless on context, so why not now?
Why hasn't the UFC ever hired Bas?
Even to just fill in for Rogan when he’s gone? Bas is better than Florian- Mir is close, but Bas is more entertaining. I’d love for the UFC team to be Rogan and Bas, or even Rogan Bas and Goldberg. I’ll deal with more Goldie if it gets me Bas.

Bas is complex
He obviously knows his stuff, and has the experience to back up his thoughts. HOWEVER, as much as he is entertaining he is at times unprofessional. The things he says are funny and make for great sound bites but sometimes, he doesn’t exactly come off super professional. Joe is already pretty out there at times, Bas would really be pushing it to ( and past) the limit
