Bobby Lashley talks about why he left Strikeforce
PRO MMA NOW: Rumor has it that your contract with Strikeforce was up and you chose not to resign. Can you talk about why you and Strikeforce parted ways and clear up any rumors that might be out there?
BOBBY LASHLEY: It was basically that. I think Coker is a great guy and I think that he has a great organization. The last card was incredible. It was a great fight show. I have no bad words to Strikeforce or Coker. I think he is great. I just felt the need to just get away from that relationship for whatever reasons and start over and build myself back up. I've been talking with Joe Kelly and he has been an incredible person to talk with and an incredible person to work with and I see his vision with his organization and I just want to be a part of it. Then having an opportunity to be able to fight in Kansas and really build back up and get ready I think it was just the right fit for me.
PRO MMA NOW: Could you ever see yourself fighting with Strikeforce sometime in the future?
BOBBY LASHLEY: I don't know about that.

Lashley talks about a lot more including a possible fight with Batista, why he chose to go with Titan Fighting Championship, his upcoming fight, pro wrestling... and he calls Chad Griggs "garbage" and is pissed at the way Griggs celebrated his win over him.

Well that sounds awkward. I feel like there has to be something about Strikeforce he doesn’t like if his answer is anything but “yes, of course I’d be willing to fight for SF again after I work myself back up”, even if it is a lie.

If Griggs is garbage then Lashley is shit.

Lashley sure as hell better not have any delusions
that he’ll take a few easy fights and then get an offer from a place like the UFC. The UFC wouldn’t consider signing him for quite some time, unless it was a Toney-esque ‘make an example of him’ scenario.
StrikeForce is the #2 promotion, and they were willing to have Lashley as one of their fighters. Lashley is unlikely to get a better deal anywhere else.

Strikeforce was a good fit for Lashley in that they were able to accomodate him both in him being in TNA and giving him relatively easy opponents until he fought Griggs. Lashley’s problem is that he did not evolve, and he approached the Griggs fight like all his other fights where he’d use a lot of energy forcing a takedown and wearing himself out doing ground n pound. I personally believe that Lashley actually has some potential, but just seeing his physique in being so muscular (which hurts more than helps in MMA) and his level of opponents, I have to wonder how serious he is about MMA.

Griggs wasn’t a push over but he wasn’t a “tough” opponent either. That Lashley couldn’t beat Chad Griggs tells us pretty much all we needed to know about Bobby Lashley’s MMA career.
yep it’s over before it “really” began

come on now...
i’m not a Blashley fan, but have to say that u can never know about a fighter’s future (and yes am aware of his age, restrictive musculature etc), I just think there are endless different kinds of restrictive and damning judgments against fighters and believe we should not try and cut them off from the potential of their futures as well.
besides, i’m not sure we know yet just how tough or not Griggs is, i haven’t looked at the guy’s record or anything (apart from the 10&1 bit) but he’s taken both his recent opportunities with real grit and resolve and for me, that makes for a tough guy, if anything blocks Griggs progress to my mind, it is question around technique.

Lashley left SF because he can’t win even a gimme fight.
Why be embarrassed on that big of a stage again? Plus who would they get to fight him?

Lashley...
understands that there are not really gimme fights left for him in strikeforce, and he wants a few “impressive” performances against some cans to attempt to get a big payday signing with the UFC. I seriously doubt Dana is even remotely interested in Lashley, but hey, I have been wrong before (kimbo). I have to say, as stupid as this plan may sound at first, this gamble may be the best thing for him financially in the long run if he can pull it off.

Absolutely correct. I think ultimately he finds his way to the UFC too. Heavyweight is such a light division and he has a name at least, which is more than 95% of the guys out there. It’ll be interesting to see how much he’s willing to cash out for.

Actually if I remember right Lashley wanted a rematch but it would have meant signing Lashley back onto the main cards and Coker wanted him to do some challengers shows first. Lashley thought he was to good for the Challengers shows.
Yeah. Well he isn’t too good for Challengers cards. He belongs with Titan fights, he has no business fighting in Strikeforce period. He obviously still thinks he is a lot better than he is because before Griggs he was talking about Title shots, and now he is saying Griggs is garbage. Clearly noone in his camp tivo’d his last fight.

Lashley calls the guy who beat him garbage.
So what does that make him?
by Rob Young on Feb 22, 2011 11:23 AM EST reply actions 1 recs
Yeah that stand up
was the end. Lashley was laying ontop of Griggs, the ref stood them up, and Lashley took about 20 seconds to stand up. He looked completely spent after that. And then Lashley desperatley tried for the takedown, and Griggs hammerfisted his head till the bell rang. done and done.

He should cut his losses and go back to Pro Wrestling. You can only go so far fighting hand picked opponents and by the looks of it with him signing with Titan that’s all he is looking for.
