Before the grandprix started, many people questioned the fact that both Allistar Overeem and Fedor Emelianenko were on the same bracket. This past saturday just proved what Strikeforce wanted to prevent, for either of both to be eliminated before they fought each other.
Bigfoot was to much for Fedor completely dominating him in the second round. That is why they were on the same bracket, to have an easier and shorter path to to fight each other.
Now,Strikeforces nightmare just happened. The proposed pay per view quarter final card is nothing without Fedors name on it, it is highly unlikely that it will still go through.
MMA fans are also wondering, what if Fedor was on the easier bracket, he could have made it to the finals to make it more interesting. The reason is that due to injuries, licensing, and contract disputes this tournament could have gone under with some fighters opting out. So instead of waiting at best two years for one of the biggest fights in the history of MMA, it was their idea to get both fighters to fight as soon as possible to prevent any delays. The last thing expected was that Bigfoot would win, this upset has rattled the tournament to its core.
The only thing possibly worse is if Fabriio Werdum beats Allistar Overeem, all eyes are on Overeem who is riding a heavy wave of admires and hype. Even though Fedor lost, it only proves how talented Strikeforce heavyweights really are. The once unbeatable phenomenon called Fedor, is now 1-2 in Strikeforce displaying how underrated this division really is.
