Chad Griggs came out aggressive against Gian Villante at Strikeforce: Fedor vs Silva. He struck Villante early and often, hurting him several times. Villante, a wrestler, managed to clinch Griggs against the fence for a respite. Then Griggs scored again. Villante briefly stunned Griggs with a high kick but ref Yves Lavinge saw fit to stop the fight for a mouthpiece replacement and Griggs had time to recover. From there Griggs poured it on again and quickly stopped Villante with a combination of punches to the jaw.
Griggs vs Villante is an alternate fight in the Strikeforce heavyweight tournament which features Fedor Emelianenko, Alistair Overeem, Fabricio Werdum, Antonio Silva, Sergei Kharitonov, Andrei Arlovski, Josh Barnett, and Brett Rogers.
Griggs, 10-1 is best known for beating Bobby Lashley at Strikeforce: Houston in 2010.
