UFC Brazil: Vitor Belfort Accepts Wanderlei Silva's Challenge
Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva fought at the first UFC in Brazil in 1998. Belfort destroyed Silva in less than two minutes. Despite having both fought under the Pride banner for most of the 2000's they have not crossed paths since. Now it appears they both want a sequel.
Wanderlei Silva started it by calling out Belfort.
Belfort responded to Tatame.com:
"Let's do it, brother. I accept it", Vitor said, praising the fighter he defeated by TKO in UFC Brazil, in 1998. "He's a great athlete, a great champion, and it would be a pleasure to fight him. It'd be a highly anticipated fight, very important for the sport.
"Whatever Dana (White) says I'll do, I never chose opponents and I won't do it now. But he made the challenge and I'm accepting it. I just don't wanna wait for the UFC Rio to come back, I wanna fight first", he added.

Aldo maybe but who would he face?Nunes, Mendes?
Dos Santos is fighting Lesnar in June and if he wins Velasquez wont be ready and if he loses I doubt he comes back that fast.
The only way Anderson Silva fights is if GSP loses and so they do Silva/Okami in Brazil. Silva/GSP is either happening in Toronto or in the USA.
If Shogun wins that is a possible option too depending on who he faces.
Belfort is just really well known in Brazil
it would bring a lot of eyes to the card that wouldn’t otherwise be there.

I hope you’re right but I don’t think winging short hooks is going to get it done against Vitor’s boxing

Argh
I really don’t need to see Wanderlei laid out again, especially by freaking Vitor Belfort. Can’t they give him easier fights like they did for Couture and Hughes?

Couture wanted Machida
And he is getting him… That’s not an easy fight. I’m a fan of Randy, but I think that’s a pretty terrible matchup for him.
Wanderlei wants Vitor… That’s not an easy fight. We’ll see if he gets him. I agree though, I think that’s a very bad fight for Wanderlei.
After the Nog drubbing Couture got two fairly easy fights.

I remember just being impressed Randy survived
Nog dominated every aspect.

Shrug
I kinda disagree… They weren’t hard… but Couture dropped down for his first LHW in years against Brandon Vera, who was coming off of 2 wins going into that fight and someone who I think is a fairly bad matchup for Couture on paper. I kinda thought Vera was going to take the decision, but whatever. I don’t think it was an easy first fight to rejoin the division.
The Coleman fight was an easy fight, but I think most expected it to be closer than it was. Luckily, we can thank Shawn Thompkins for coming up with one of the worst gameplans ever by having Coleman try to stand with Randy. He looked so horrible in that fight, he was cut right after by the UFC… but he had just beaten Bonnar and his fight with Shogun was much more competitive than it should have been.
Vitor will train exclusively on a speed-bag for this one.

Mehh...
I’d accept a fight from a guy that had lost 5 of his last 7 too. Especially if I’d beaten him already. Should be an easy KO win for Vitor.

of course but you saying you wouldn't be compelled to watch
and hope against all hope that maybe a miracle happens and Wandsome gets the KO? Everyone loves a underdog and Wandy winning and maybe even getting the KO for sweet revenge. Such a fanboy for this scrap.
True...
I’m still gonna watch this shit.

Interesting that he doesn’t want to wait for UFC Rio.
He’s the first Brazilian guy I have heard that is not dying to be on that card.
probably cause he thinks he can fight and blast old Wandy in the first round again and be prepared to fight in rio also.
I think they give him another fight first and then make this one in brazil.

UFC Brazil
Vitor Belfort vs. Wanderlei Silva (main)
Big Nog vs. Cro Cop (win or lose @ 128) (co-main)

I'm going either way
But I’d cry nostalgic tears of joy all the way from São Paulo to Rio for a card like that.
Pride never dies!
I think him and Paul Harris would be a good fight

Wanderlei Silva
JUST!
FIGHT!

Don't do it, UFC
Vitor’s stock won’t go any higher with a win over Wanderlei, and Wandy doesn’t need to be put out to pasture yet with a brutal KO.
Let Wandy fight an up and comer so that you have a win-win situation. If Wandy wins, he becomes legit again. If the other guy does, he’s ready for a contender match, so at least you get something out of a Wandy loss.
I’d rather see Vitor-Stann and Leben-Wanderlei but thats just me

Gonna rewatch the Wand-Bisping fight cause I don’t think he’s the same fighter everyone is describing here.
With extensive time to train
And Rafael coaching his Muy Thai, I’m pretty sure Wand can make this perfectly competitive.
After that Rampage counter-hook I have the feeling Wand’s not going to go AXE-MURDERER unless he knows the guy is already wobbled. That seemed like a style-changing fight for him.
So glad they made this fight...I just wish they'd have stuck to Rashad and Rampage...Hammil? Really?
I like Hammil, but how the hell does he leapfrog Rashad?
Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?
George Carlin
Because he didnt leapfrog Rashad. Rashad doesnt want to fight until after Shogun/Jones because if Jones wins he is either going up or down in weight.
However like Dana mentioned it’s dumb because if he Jones wins and he goes down to 185 GSP might be the champ and Marquardt and Stann fight there and if he goes up to HW Carwin and Schaub fight there
I wonder if Vitor loves knees as much as he loves feet?
