Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Silva Fight Card - Fedor Emelianenko vs. Antonio Silva Preview
In the main event of the evening on Saturday night, Fedor Emelianenko (32-2-0-1, 1-1 SF) returns to the cage after suffering his first defeat in over ten years at the hands, or should I say legs, of Fabricio Werdum. The invincible force in MMA's heavyweight division succumbed to a tight triangle choke hold in the first round of action back in June, and despite the perceived disaster that fans thought the loss conveyed -- Fedor was humble in defeat.
He'll now focus on a new task, striking fear once again into the hearts of the fighters of Strikeforce's heavyweight Grand Prix. While much of the discussion surrounding Fedor has been focusing on his diminished aura and ascending age, Fedor is still considered one of the very best to have ever graced the ring and cage.
In his return, he'll face Brazil's own Antonio Silva (15-2, 3-1 SF), a 265 pound Goliath of a man who regularly cuts down to the weight class' maximum limit. Silva's immense size is always a factor in any fight, but he also holds credible credentials in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Judo. That doesn't make his task any easier as Fedor is still considered one of the heavy favorites in the tournament.
Silva does, however, have an impressive record behind him. At 8-1 in his last 9 appearances, his biggest win came back in May as he battered former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski in a three-round affair at Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery. The massive Brazilian took it to the Belorussian with solid striking and clinch tactics, adding more evidence to the idea that Arlovski's time to shine may be over. Can Silva produce a similar performance against Fedor?
Most fans are under the impression that the chink in Fedor's armor has been found, but they aren't willing to wager that Silva can take advantage of that exposed skin. Fedor's aura may be perceived by some fans as gone, but I'm not buying into that notion just yet.
Superior speed will be Fedor's key to victory on Saturday night. Silva isn't a speedy heavyweight due to his size, and his gas tank isn't considerable when we compare it to other heavyweights in the field. Let's not forget that Fedor is one of the most explosive heavyweights in the sport. He may appear to be the humble, giggly man from Stary Oskol in media appearances, but he transforms into a scary two-faced monster when fight time comes. The stoic, unemotional mystery as he walks into the cage, and once the first punch is thrown - a raging bull ready to pounce on his prey.
Fedor will remind fans on Saturday night why he is one of the most feared fighters on the planet and dispatch of Silva. I'm not going to predict a jaw-dropping beatdown of epic proportions as Silva is a very big man to throw around the cage, but I do believe Fedor finishes him off in this fight. I'll take Fedor via TKO, round 2.

Now that he's lost his first fight, I'm even more excited to see him fight again.
Fedor trying to redeem himself seems like a more interesting scenario than when he was destroying everyone.
You and me both my friend. It was getting to a point where Fedor literally looked invincible (for me it was when he knocked out Silva so easily right after he left the ufc. Although Wagner just showed us that’s not as hard as it seems). I’m much more excited to see the human Fedor fight another giant of a man. If Silva manages to win this site is going to go nuts though, that you can take to the bank.
I’ll do it for you. I predict a jaw-dropping beatdown of epic proportions. Then a submission finish, just for fun.

This fight won't go over past 2 minutes in RD1
It will be a situation where one guy falls to the ground unconscious. Who do you think the winner will be?
Predictions. This is the easiest fight to predict. Heck. Mike Kyle would have a better chance against Fedor than Silva.

oh yeah?
Why’s that, chief?

why's what? Which part are you questioning?
I do think Mike Kyle would have a punchers chance at best. Don’t get me wrong. I think both Kyle and Silva together probably can’t beat Fedor 2 on 1. Still :) Silva is slow. He got outworked by Werdum (who is no Fedor in stand up). On the ground, I just can’t see Silva subbing Fedor.

Yeah I really think AS’s slow proding style is perfect for Fedor to pull off the quick win by delivering one of those powerful overhands that he throws…..will be a quick win for Fedor imo. I think AS is skilled and a worthy opponent I just think his style is a horrible match up against Fedors style.
What the hell, I'll go with the underdog
This fight will look like a carbon copy of Silva vs Kyle. Fedor will drop Silva in the first, break both of his hands, come out for the 2nd, get mounted and KO’d for the first time ever.
More likely scenario:
Silva muscles Fedor to the ground right away, Fedor armbars him, done deal.

Alistair Overeem - StrikeForce HeavyWeight Champion, K-1 2010 World Grand Prix Champion, DREAM Interim HeavyWeight Champion
Idk from what I recall AS’s takedowns are not that good…..could end up like a Brett R and HongMC situation though, with Fedor going for the throw and ending up on bottom because the massive weight difference.
HongMC makes him sound way cooler than he really is for some reason.

Anyone that beats Semmy Schilt in a K-1 match is cool.

I’m going first round armbar for Fedor. I wonder if he’s concerned about breaking his hands.

I think this is going to end up with Fedor mounted, Big Foot raining down punches for a TKO win and about two weeks worth of the internet talking about how Fedor’s career is over and he was always overrated.
I sure hope i’m wrong.
I seriously doubt it and hope not also……but who knows, MMA is the most difficult sport to predict the outcome because there are so many ways a person can win or lose. It takes such a small mistake to lose a fight it really is incredible his win streak lasted that long, particularly considering how many tough spots he got himself into.
I may not know how this will end
but I have a pretty good idea of how it will start. Fedor will be on one side of the cage, Silva diametrically opposite him. A ref in the middle will utter a catchphrase to signal the beginning of the fight.
Bigfoot has the skills to exploit Fedor's one real weakness.
His fragile hands.

Fedor all day, easy.
"No. It's a mystery. A man's at odds to know his mind cause his mind is aught he has to know it with. He can know his heart, but he don't want to. Rightly so. Best not to look in there. It ain't the heart of a creature that is bound in the way that God has set for it. You can find meanness in the least of creatures, but when God made man the devil was at his elbow. A creature that can do anything. Make a machine. And a machine to make the machine. And evil that can run itself a thousand years, no need to tend it. You believe that?"
