Freddie Roach: GSP vs. Silva Is MMA's Version of Pacquiao vs. Mayweather
"It's a great fight. It's Pacquiao-Mayweather."Luke Thomas said the exact same thing just weeks ago:
GSP vs. Silva involves that rare moment in time when the most sporting significant bout intersects directly with the territory of being the most fan-demanded, most financially lucrative fight currently available. In a world where contractual limitations don't exist, there are other fights that could be bigger. Fedor vs. Lesnar, perhaps at the time it was most feverishly demanded, could've been bigger. But that fight has lost its luster and is anyway unattainable. If we are talking about two fighters who exist in the same contractual universe whose pairing meets the aforementioned criteria, GSP vs. Silva stands alone.Click here to watch the full Ultimate Insider Episode 26.
...GSP vs. Silva is more Pacquiao vs. Mayweather's little brother than peer. It won't garner the world wide attention or breach the North American sporting consciousness in a way boxing's mega fight would. But putting on GSP vs. Silva would be hugely beneficial in raising the awareness of what MMA's finest fights can look and feel like, particularly in the absence of Pacquiao vs. Mayweather.

Except
When Maywether fights Pacquiao there is no more intresting fights in boxing
But when Silva fights GSP there are plenty of intresting fights in MMA
Seriously.
To say Boxing has nothing after Mayweather/Pacquiao is just dumb. I say you should watch a little more Boxing first.

It isn't Mayweather vs Pacquiao because
This fight has a very real chance of happening :)

Silva-GSP
Is what the sport needs. Let fate determine the winner and fate has money on GSP.

Believe me, you aren't the only one
I’ve been a big Shields fan and hates that he keeps getting shat on. Before the potential of Silva vs GSP was put out there, I was pulling for him. The only thing that has me rooting against Shields is the prospect of GSP-Silva happening only if GSP wins.

If Shields had done what he's done under the bright lights of the UFC
Everyone would consider him up there(but still behind) GSP and Silva as one of the best Pound for pound

Just curious....
Why does everyone treat Freddy Roach as though he is an amazing boxer? If I recall correctly he never won a title. He was a good boxer, but he wasnt exactly setting the world on fire.
I know he has trained some good guys, but did he train them from scratch or pick them up after they were already on the road to success?
People treat him as a amazing coach because he's trained the best boxer in the world currently.
His career got got cut short from taking too many punches and instead of walking away, he choose to coach, and look where he is now.
Pacquaio is pretty much his Masterpiece that put him as the best trainer in the business. Pacquaio was a exciting brawler with a big left hand, but Roach changed him in a nightmare with fast hands, unorthodox combo, and power in both his hands.
Roach is also training the next big name Brit in Amir Khan, whose has the fastest hands in boxing(according some analysts).
Also in his stable of fighters:
Julio Cesar Chavez jr./ Big name due to being the originals son, Biggest fight in Mexico to be made right now would be Saul Alverez vs. Chavez Jr.
There are alot of things he’s done outside the ring makes him so rspected.
*eh I'd rather see Silva fight Shogun
I don’t really care for this fight for some reason. A fight with Bones would be interesting, but not at this moment. Let Bones rack up a few more fights and experience first, THEN have them go at it. But then Silva would be like 38-40 and that fight would’ve lost its luster I suppose. I’d much rather see Anderson fight Okami (just to increase his record breaking feats to 9 title defenses), and then fight Shogun. I’d rather see a solid war between two equal size men who both have dynamic striking abilities over Andy fighting a smaller GSP. Call me crazy, but I have no viable interest in Andy/GSP.
