The Grappling Dummy: Yuki Nakai Interview
Supported by Manto and Scramble.

To my knowledge, this is the only fully translated video interview in the world with the legend that is Yuki Nakai.
Yuki Nakai fought Rickson Gracie in Vale Tudo Japan, was instrumental in popularising BJJ in Japan, and has guided some of Japan’s top fighters, including Shinya Aoki.
We visited the headquarters of Paraestra, Nakai-san’s network of dojos, in a small suburb of Tokyo. This is the place where the best jiu jitsu fighters in Tokyo come to practice (hence all the noise in the background while we were filming.)
In this interview, we talked about history, philosophy, and Nakai-san set the record straight about how and why he started BJJ – and it didn’t happen how most of us assume!
I hope you enjoy, please do visit and buy gear from Manto and Scramble, and proceeds will go to the next lot of interviews.

thanks!
And to think it took us about 5 minutes to coax any achievements out of him!

I am a huge Yuki Nakai fan…
I bought Choke as much for its footage of him as for Rickson.
Thanks for getting this interview!

rec'd for Nakai
I will always hate Gordeau for what he did to Nakai with the eye gouging that permanently blinded his one eye. Nakai embodies the true warrior spirit though. He defeated Kimura that night and then fought Gracie despite being blinded and then hid the injury for years so as not to give the sport a bad name.

yeah
Yuki is a warrior, Gordeau is a dirt bag.
Yeah I’m fighter bashing. It’s well earned.

Great video
I’d love to see more like this. I loved the production and the intimacy of the interview… it stands apart from most of the cookie-cutter interviews MMA is usually plagued by.
Nicely done!
thanks!
I appreciate that comment.
