UFC on Fox Press Conference Notes: Rashad to Phil 'I'm Gonna Put Hands On You Worse Than Penn State'
The UFC held their press conference today to formally announce their return to Fox as well as Chicago. On the stage was UFC President Dana White, Rashad Evans and Phil Davis who headline the event, Chael Sonnen and Mark Munoz who are in the role of co-main event, and Michael Bisping and Demian Maia who will square off in the featured bout of the evening. There were some pretty big news worthy tidbits from the presser as usual.
Dana White formally announced that both the Evans/Davis fight and Sonnen/Munoz fight were number one contender bouts. The Bisping/Maia winner will face the winner of Sonnen/Munoz vs Anderson Silva. He also stated that the placing the UFC on Fuel has paid off in an 11% increase in the subscriber base. This is big news as the UFC plans to air 2200 hours of content on the network in 2012.
White also spoke about the Ultimate Fighter. The series on FX wil have the fights aired live. The taped portion of the show will what's being called 'jive live' in that it is from the previous two days. As for the relationship with SPIKE, White reiterated that it was not his decision to leave the network. Instead it was the executives at Viacom. When asked about SPIKE's plans to counter-program the Fox card, White stated "We didn't make the decision to not be on SPIKE. Someone high up at Viacom made that decision and now they're acting mad at me."
There was a pretty awkward moment when Chael was asked about Dan Henderson's recent tweet which stated that Anderson wasn't really hurt, he just doesn't want to fight Hendo or Chael but he'd be okay with fighting Bisping. Chael responded "I don't believe Anderson's hurt. He just got caught on tape working out with Wanderlei. How hard is it going to be becoming world champion by beating up math teachers. I think he's ducking me. I think he's ducking Henderson. I don't think he's eager to fight Bisping, you'll have to talk to Henderson about that." Michael Bisping took the microphone and stated "Henderson's just like Chael, they both have a problem with submission defense. Just because you blew your shot at Anderson Silva, don't come talking smack about me."
Finally during the fan question portion of the presser Rashad Evans and Phil Davis got into a verbal joust where Davis commented on Rashad's chin. Evans responded saying "I'm going to put my hands on you worse than that dude on those kids at Penn State."

Everything between Phil and Rashad was all cool and collected then it started getting a little hotter, then BOOOOOOOM!!! RASHAD WITH THE KO PUNCH hahahahaha as a Penn State student, when Evans said that, I said "OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SHIT!!!!" lol

Rashad just had to go darkside. I think it just shows that Davis was getting to him so he went for the trump card. Which is just a bad idea when you’re on a press conference call. If this was some shit talking during a natural confrontation I don’t think I would have a problem with it. I have heard far worse shit talk between two people then that.
That's funny but damn dude.

Looking at this picture reminds me Rashad spends more time in the cage in a suit instead of fight gear over the past few years.
It's that the world is basically a forced labor camp from which the workers, perfectly innocent, are led forth by lottery, a few each day, to be executed.

It’s a shame to see Rashad added to the fighters who like to make thoughtless comments club. Someone needs to give them a list of things that are not appropriate to joke about.

Twofer: Okay, well. Just tell us some things about your life, and we’ll try to punch it up and make it talk show-worthy.
Pete: Maybe something about you and your wife.
Tracy Jordan: Me and my wife like to play rape. She go in the bathroom and do her hair. Then, I’ll put on a ski mask…
Frank: Hey, uh, you got anything about being a dad? People eat that garbage up.
Tracy Jordan: I like to walk around my house naked, to remind my oldest son who’s still got the biggest ding-dong.
Pete: No.
Tracy Jordan: Or I could tell the story of how I met Sharon Stone.
Pete: What was that?
Tracy Jordan: I was pooping in the ladies’ room at The Ivy…
Pete: No.
Nice.

Rashad Evans is headlining the first full card on Fox. All the way back to UFC 98 at least, maybe more but my memory is bad right now, every single card Rashad has been on has had a ridiculously high amount of people withdraw due to injury. Every. Single. One.

I've heard a lot of
very questionable comments from Rashad. Multiple racist comments ala Rampage Uncle Tom and Jon Jones acting white.. I believe he coined the term Blackzillians which I personally do not approve of. I’m gona go out on a limb and say if a team like death clutch started calling themselves the White Conquerors it would not go over very well. Rashad always questions the fans disdain for him, maybe someone can print off a transcript of his own comments to give him a little clarity on the subject.
you find the Blackzilians thing offensive?
not mocking you or anything – i’m just curious as to how that’s comparable to White Supremacist sounding team names.

I don't find it offensive
I don’t approve of it. I am simply stating a team name that isolates racial color is unacceptable. Someone like Brock Lesnar of Viking descent could easily call themselves conquerors, much different from “white supremicist”. The whole thing is a road that doesn’t need to be traveled down illustrating my point, no good comes from racial color statements.
ok, i wasn’t implying you were endorsing anything racial – i simply looked into your statement the wrong way. i apologize for that.

A team made up of caucasian americans named the whiteican’s, white-americans would that be appropriate? I mean that’s who’s on the team, people with white skin from america. No it would not be appropriate. The entire point is there is no reason to base anything on skin color regardless of what color it is.
That's stupid

Ok well you answered your own question so it's not gonna matter what I say but...
let me pose one to you: what’s wrong w/ a group of grown men on a team who train together giving themselves a team name? Every other team does it.
It's the same debate as over "Brown Pride".
I personally don’t care for it, but I get that there’s a huge difference in this country (world?) between that and “White Pride”. Context is key as to why one is considered ok, and the other isn’t – i.e., genocides were carried out under the slogan of the latter. Yeah, I wish people wouldn’t do “White/ Brown/ Black/ Yellow/ Plaid Pride”, but it’s not something I would put too much energy into.

What's wrong with Blackzilians?
They are black Brazilians. That’s actually true. But if Rashad mentions race he’s a racist?
Read: Toblerone Jones
Yeah, it does seem that Rashad does make a lot of racist comments that seem the harshest on his fellow black fighters. Maybe he thinks because he’s black and his opponent is black, it gives him free reign to say anything racist because in his mind, he’s part of that minority.
Seriously, to call Rampage an Uncle Tom? That goes beyond building hype for a fight. And saying Jon Jones acts white? So is that a crack against white people and any black people that don’t fit into his concept of how a black person should behave? It seems Rashad is perfectly fine with stereotyping people.

How many times is Sonnen going to make that lame joke about Rich Franklin? It was funny once because it managed to insult two fighters at once, but now it just sounds lame.

That'd be a trick.
The UFC should put some people on that, see about making it happen.

No way
Certain people will call it a fix if they pay them to punch each other in the face.

ok, ok – what if we also let them kick and grapple?

so they can punch kick and grapple each other!?
how did no one think of this sooner!?!

Meh.. if that’s the case you can never joke about anything where someone got hurt. It’s just a reference to something that’s been in the news lately, not a big deal.
by Horselover Fat on Dec 7, 2011 5:16 PM EST up reply actions
Yes, "hurt" is the same thing regardless of degree. That's why we can't make fun of MMA fighters, they get punched sometimes and that hurts.
You gotta be fucking kidding me. It’s not just “something that’s been in the news,” it’s something horrifically awful that actually happened to real people, believe it or not.
Share for share, share alike, you'll get struck each time I strike.
They are in the overwhelming minority. Yeah sucks for them, but it’s going to happen, and they’re going to have to deal with it. Rashad is hardly the first one to make a joke about it and he won’t be the last either. There are a million other things people joke about that could also be called “something horrifically awful that actually happened to real people”. I bet we all have something we feel uneasy hearing jokes about. That’s just life.
by Horselover Fat on Dec 7, 2011 5:52 PM EST up reply actions
Oh, nice.
Other people will do it, so it’s totally cool to do it, even when it’s obviously damaging and an awful thing to do. It’s cool to do it because they’re in the minority. Awesome. We’re done here.
Share for share, share alike, you'll get struck each time I strike.
What I got out of this: There’s a very real possibility that Demian Maia vs. Anderson Silva II is going to happen. FUCKING YAY.

Rashad made a funny offensive remark
Was it inappropriate? Yes, but lets not blow this shit up. I hope not to see 5 articles about how insensitive it was and how he needs to apologize immediately.
Hello.

Dude this is BE
Their righteous indignation pieces get loads of page views and comments, of course they’re going to do one.
Maybe righteous indignation was the wrong expression..
More like white knight, in the internet parlance.
Couldn't care less if he apologizes
But it was a ridiculous and unacceptable comment to make. It wasn’t funny, and he comes off looking like a prick for equating what he’s going do to Davis to what happened to fucking SEXUAL ASSAULT VICTIMS. At least when South Park did it they attacked the institution and the cover up, not the victims themselves. That’s how the phrasing of this comment comes off, and it’s entirely over the line on any level.

If Rashad does "lay his hands" on Davis like Sandusky, then maybe Davis will quit defending the fucker.

Did Davis defend Sandusky?
It's that the world is basically a forced labor camp from which the workers, perfectly innocent, are led forth by lottery, a few each day, to be executed.
I don't think that's just the way I see it. I think that's the way it is. Are there alternative views? Yes. Will any of them stand close scrutiny? No.

Kinda depressing...
But, hey, you have to “follow protocol.”
The Internets: Where there are no girls and men become children.
Davis is a loser and I hope he gets KO'd on Saturday night.
Douche said Penn St. followed procedure and shouldn’t be expected to do more. Kids getting raped and he doesn’t feel someone should of called the police.

Bro, it's his alma mater,
and Paterno was a hero around there. He’s not the only PSU student/ alum who have rushed to JP’s defense. Were they on the wrong side? Yes, I believe so. But I don’t think that makes them horrible people, just delusional.

I don’t blame him for a rush to judgement. But when it comes to child rape he should of at least come out and clarified what he said. It wasn’t just, “I think JP is a really great guy and I think he is innocent”. It was something to the effect of, “The school followed protocol, what more should they have done”. It’s child rape!! Call the police!!
