No, it was a bust because JDS wasn’t Mir… as in, Mir would’ve stirred shit up with Lesnar and made him real angry. Angry Lesnar is great for television.

Agreed

And you can’t be mean to JDS, he is way too nice.

it was disappointing right out of the gate

i think the Cain beating took a lot of the wind out of lesnar’s sails too. Should’ve covered that in the piece but ran out of room.

and the Carwin fight.

Even though he won it showed alot of people that he didnt take being hit well and wrecked his unstoppable viking persona

The key to Lesnar’s success on TV was Frank Mir. When it was announced that JDS would coach opposite of him, I was excited at the prospect of them fighting after the show, but I knew the show wouldn’t be that great considering JDS is just too nice of a guy and wouldn’t dare say anything bad to Lesnar. And Lesnar rarely initiates crap and trashtalking, he needs to be provoked.

It was a bust because the fighters sucked

both in personality and in talent.

That too. Clearly didn’t help. Putting Lesnar as coach was a last-ditched effort by the Spike and UFC execs to save their season when they realized how bad the latest crop of fighters were.

So...

Kevin Kay is Captain Obvious? Good to know.

Or, you know, the show's format is played out

I watched this season because I knew Mayhem would make things interesting though I still skipped a lot of the show and went straight to the fights. Here’s hoping the new TUF on FX drags less.

The people who were curious about Lesnar were curious to see him fight. Not see him watch other fighters fight.

The season didn't bomb because of Lesnar...

it bombed because of Spike.

The long-term trend of the show had been towards personalities rather than talent. MMA fans aren’t stupid enough to care about MTV-style programming; we want promising up-and-comers, not bullshit personalities. Why do you think this season did so much better? I’ll give you a hint—it wasn’t because of the coaches.

The basis of Brock Lesnar's

appeal was intrigue and questions. “who is this freak of man, why is he the way he is, etc” In reality Brock is just a quiet guy who looks much different than most people. When you put a camera on him for long periods of time you take away the intrigue and questions. It’s not Brock’s fault for being himself it’s Spike’s fault for failing to understand the reason behinds his popularity. It was very clear to me that Brock in the WWE was a character. You can’t be a character every second of every day, it only works in small candid amounts. It was just too much camera time for a “character”.
