With T.J. Grant Injured, Efrain Escudero Returns to Face Jacob Volkmann at UFC 141

With UFC lightweight, T.J. Grant suffering an injury in training, a former Ultimate Fighter winner has gotten the call to return to the UFC and replace him in a fight against Jacob Volkmann at UFC 141. As announced on UFC.com this afternoon, TUF Season 8 champion, Efrain Escudero, will once against step foot in the Octagon and face Volkmann on December 30th:

TJ Grant has been forced to withdraw from UFC 141 due to an injury, according to UFC president Dana White. Stepping in to replace him will be TUF 8 winner Efrain Escudero, making his return to the UFC against Jacob Volkmann. Both fighters have verbally agreed to the new match.

Escudero was only the second TUF winner to be released by the UFC after a submission loss to Charles Oliveira in late 2010, a bout in which Escudero also came in 4 pounds overweight, which likely contributed to the UFC's decision to release him, since Escudero still had a winning UFC record of 3-2 at the time. Since then, Escudero has stayed active and successful on the regional scene, going 5-1 and most recently, choking out Cesar Avila at Bellator 55 last month. Escudero-Volkmann will likely remain on the preliminary card for UFC 141.

Efrain "Hecho en Mexico" Escudero (18-3)
W Cesar Avila (submission) - Bellator 55
W Mike Rio (unam. decision) - CFA 2
L Fabricio Camoes (unam. decision) - TPF 9
Jacob "Christmas" Volkmann (13-2)
W Danny Castillo (unam. decision) - UFC on Versus 5
W Antonio McKee (split decision) - UFC 125
W Paul Kelly (unam. decision) - UFC on Versus 2

Escudero also missed weight against Cole Miller but made it on the 2nd try

Volkmann by UD. I guess with Efrain coming in on short notice they’ll give him another fight W or L but I don’t see how he wins this.

I respect your opinion even though it's wrong.

It’s going to be an ugly as hell fight though. Volkmann is pretty boring.

Lentz vs. Volkmann is a must

Clearly it would just be a kickboxing war!

I respect your opinion even though it's wrong.

I think Volkmann wins it.

I’m a fan of the guy.

He put on a pretty gutsy performance against Paulo Thiago…so it sucked seeing him drop his 2nd in a row(and on short notice no less) against Kampmann.

I really like that he has put together such a good win streak since he moved down to LW and hope he keeps it up.

Volkmann at Lightweight and Claude Patrick at Welterweight are two fighters that have been quietly putting together win streaks on the prelims. I think that Volkmann should win this with his wrestling, but Escudero isn’t a bad wrestler himself. However, he is taking the fight on short notice, and isn’t always consistent.

Bellator sues Escudero and/or Zuffa in 5 ... 4 ... 3 ... 2 ... 1

Sam Caplan is a sneaky bastard. It seems like every time a guy thinks he is free to sign elsewhere, Bellator drops the hammer on him and claims he is still their property.

Next fight assuming that they both win their next fights should be Volkman-Lentz then they should be one fight away from a contender fight then after they fight someone like Miller, Guida, Guilard, Maynard, they should get a shot at thew Title, assuming all this happens they way I imagined.

What the fuck are these people talking about? Volkmann vs Lentz would never happen. That’s like the fourth dude to call for it. How random.

Glad

To see Efrain back. With the right training and dieting he’s a decent fighter. Volkmann dropping to lightweight was (and i don’t say this for many fighters due to so many damn lightweights already) a great career move.

going to be rooting for El Hencho In Mexico but see volkmann getting the 30-27 UD

Lotta hating Volkmann and Lentz, but anyone that actually watched Lentz’s last fight (against Oliveira) or Volkmann’s last fight (against Castillo) knows better. Both of those fights were OUTSTANDING.

I can’t remember the fight, but wasn’t Lentz’s fight against Waylon Lowe exciting as hell too? He’s on a two fight awesome streak.
