Junie Browning Turns Self in at Phuket Police Station, Saga Ongoing

via phuketwan.com

The saga of former UFC fighter Junie Browning and his part in a Phuket bar brawl seems to take a new twist or turn every few days and yesterday was no different. According to Phuketwan, Browning appeared at a police station to turn himself in and attempt to settle the situation stemming from a brawl that took place in a local brawl which saw him suffer severe lacerations from, what he claims was, a knife attack after he was already being beaten up by a large group.

But the situation appears far from over. From the article:

None of the people involved in the brawl were held by police tonight.

However, the first attempt to mediate a settlement failed when the respective parties declined to sit down to talk.

The dispute between Browning and the others who were injured in the brawl leaves police with differing accounts of the rights and wrongs of the events.

...

If both sides continue to claim they were wronged, the process could be extended.

Rather than pick and choose who is telling the truth, officers are likely to continue to try to conduct a mediation session aimed at finding a compromise.

It could be that Browning may be asked to pay for the hospital treatment of the others involved, and damage at the bar.

Browning in turn may seek compensation for his injuries.

I'm far from an expert in the legal dealings of other countries, but the idea of sitting down to find a compromise in a situation that did, very clearly, involve one party being stabbed repeatedly in the head and sent to the hospital seems very strange.

I'll refrain from any speculation at this point, but I'm sure we'll have more details very soon.

I still want to visit Phuket at some point in my life.

I’m hoping nothing like this happens to me while I’m there..

by GutenDirk on Dec 22, 2011 9:08 AM EST reply actions

Been there and almost got into a situation with the corrupt police. My moped hit the side of an old beat up baht bus (thai taxi). There was very little damage but the owner demanded I pay an outrageous amount of money. I said no and tried to give him less. Police showed up, he said I refused to pay him what he wanted. Long story short, to stay out of jail I had to pay way too much money of which there is no doubt the policeman got a cut.

Aside from that, Phuket is awesome. I’ve been numerous times and that is the only incident I ever had. It is one of my favorite places I have visited.

I've spent a lot of time in Phuket

He is going to be in some serious trouble, it is almost always a foreigners fault there, regardless of what actually happens.

jean claude's bad dancing...

makes my feet sad.

I just watched Kickboxer the other day. The funniest/saddest part of the movie is that bar scene. It’s almost as good as his cameo in Breakin’ 2 “Electric Boogaloo”

Funny, someone appearing to be Junie was posting on Mania yesterday..

and claimed he was already stateside. In WI I believe..

In Bangkok after training at the Bangkok fight club, a friend and I went to Lumpini stadium to watch some fights. Met a couple of chikys there who wanted to run around with us after the fights. Drinks, food and everything was dirt cheap so when the pair of girls wanted to invite a couple more to join we didn’t mind at all. One turns out to be a transgender. Not even trying to hide it or anything and spoke the best English out of the group. My buddy was getting fed up the more he drank cause the he/she wouldn’t shut up and wanted the former dude outta there. One final joke about cock size and the he/she (now drunk as well) offered a condolence hug to my buddy and he damn near lost it. I grabbed him before anything really got started up, but the place came to a complete halt. Music stopped, girls got up and left. Everything went friggin blank. We went back to out hotel room, but Thai police came there asking for us. The girls we were with apparently told where we were.

Had to have a conference at the police station between me, my buddy and the he/she in separate rooms. I swear, all that happened was an attempt to give a hug and my buddy shrugged it off and stood up knocking his own chair down. We ended up having to pay 300 bucks (all we could withdraw from an ATM) to get out of it. Complete crap..

Not Van Damme

Because Van Damme is still marginally relevant. Maybe the guy to the left drinking the beer, who was probably credited as “Bar Thug #2” or something?

Come on, Rebel, we gonna bust him up tonight!

Anyone know?

If Junie tapped to strikes at any point during that altercation?

I wanna see this episode of " Locked up abroad "

I 100% thought this guy was a tool on the show but Damn didn’t want anything bad to happen to the dude. ( outside of a cage fight beat down ) Almost gotta feel bad for the kid. Something tells me he won’t get a fair deal in a place like that.

Pretty nuts

i dont know who to believe in this whole ordeal, Junie hasnt been the most stable guy when it came to out of the octagon mannerisms

I am willing to test myself against the toughest fighters in the world, in front of hundreds of thousands or even millions of fans, over and over again. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose, but I always come to fight. I've been doing this for the past fourteen years, and I have at least a few more strong years left in me. If he skates with just some no-fault mediation and paying some restitution, he is really lucky.

God only knows what they cut off if your found guilty. They probably hack of a hand for throwing a punch.

The irony is, he just happened to get into a fight with guy less stable than him.

by Steve W on Dec 22, 2011 9:54 AM EST via mobile reply actions

Yep he's pretty F'd

unless the American consulate/embassy steps in on his behalf (not really likely ) he’s pretty much at the mercy of the local authorities.

If you click on the link to the original post theres a few pics of Junie & his gf… they both are clean and dressed well. He has had his stitches removed and they are even posing or smiling in most pics.doesn’t look like there’s any major immediate concerns.

There’s someone claiming to be Junie on MMAmania:

http://www.sbnation.com/users/JunieBrowning

Wrote a fanpost about the ordeal and claims he’s already back in the states? Guess it’s a fake. Some people have too much time on their hands.

Junie is a piece of shit and all, BUT

He is human, and I hope he makes it out alive and well. This shit is scary. Especially after hearing lots of stories about Thailand and the crazy shit that goes on over there when stepping outta line. I just hope he doesn’t talk out of his ass if and when he comes back to the states (which he’ll most likely do).

Crazy stuff happens in Thailand to crazy people

Never had even a hint of a problem in over a year here, nor any of our friends.

Try getting drunk and insulting someone or shoving someone in Chicago or LA or New York or Atlanta and see what happens?

when you go to a country like Thailand you have take extra caution to avoid encounters with the police. have fun, drink, get laid, see the sights, eat the amazing food but don’t do anything stupid.

when Americans (or any outsider for that matter) goes into a country like that, stirs sh**t up and gets in trouble with the law i don’t ever feel sorry for them. and i have seen it happen a bunch of times.

I just spent like an hour reading there tourist website and holy shit.

Basically the Thai criminals will beat you stab you rob you and then the cops show up and a payment will help settle the matter. This guy got beat up by ladyboys after he was robbed by them. Then the cops made them pay 3000 Baht out of a 3600 Baht medical bill and apologize!

five young boys stabbed an australian tourist

Maybe I’m looking too deep into this. Being from NYC and seeing a ton of crime I’ve never heard of so many tourists targeted for violent crimes within a short amount of time in my life.

i don’t think junie is an innocent human being at all…

but the pictures don’t lie. he clearly suffered some trauma to his dome from an object other than the “8-limbs” & he turned himself in, in a foriegn country that is well-known for corrupt police & public officials.

regardless of how you feel about the man? that situation sucks.

and for once junie may NOT be the most despicable person in the situation… after all there was only one of him & he didn’t use any weapons… so maybe for once in his life JB wasn’t the biggest d-bag that night, in that place, in that city, for a few minutes…

The ignorance and fear of other countries here is sad

“OH no!!! In another country they do things differently and I can read horror stories online about it – it must be filled with corrupt mafia and police and be very, very scary!!!”

Please…bad things happen to people in the States all the time. Yeah, the details unfolds a little differently here in Thailand, but for the most part you have to do something stupid first, the kind of thing that would get you in trouble in America too.

I really want to hear from the Thai people what happened. I don’t find Junie to be a credible source.
